Film The Naked Gun reboot (2025)

I do miss this type of comedy, as @Salt Bailly said there's not been anything like this in a long time. I still watch Naked Gun, National Lampoons etc for time to time.

In fact, does anybody have any good recommendations for other films like this?

Airplane!

Top Secret!

Hot Shots!

Hot Shots! Part Deux

Obviously all the Monty Python stuff.

Edit:

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Does Tropic Thunder count?

Mars Attacks!

Tucker and Dale vs Evil

Ah man the Hot Shots! movies were both brilliant.

“What are you reading?”

“great expectations”

“Any good?”

“It’s not what I’d hoped for”

Charlie Sheen is underrated!

Yes!

National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon was a guilty pleasure too, and the Major League movies.

Just watch the six episodes of Police Squad and the original Naked Gun movies.

I always laugh at the locksmith episode of Police Squad

Sorry to bother you at this hour, we would’ve come earlier but your husband wasn’t dead then.

Wilma, I promise you; whatever scum did this, not one man on this force will rest one minute until he's behind bars. Now, let's grab a bite to eat.

In the Hot Shot movies when Saddam Hussein and the dog recombine.

Yeah, I love the Police Squad episodes as much as the Naked Gun films.

Cop: "Sergeant, take her away and book her".
Frank: (SHAKING THEIR HAND) "Sergeant Takeheraway, Sergeant Booker." :)

I've never watched the other films named as much, but I do enjoy Airplane and Hot Shots! whenever I've seen them. And never really got into the Police Academy films.

I'd recommend a few Gene Wilder films like Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and Silver Streak.

I really can’t see Liam Neeson doing the Leslie Nielsen bit. He’s as wooden as they come, and I can’t think of a less funny actor.

I think he will be good in this and besides Leslie Nielsen was never a comedy actor until his later years as well

See No Evil, Hear No Evil was hilarious.

It's aggressively unfunny unless you're a kid. I also liked them as a kid, so just don't watch them and keep the good memories.

TVNorge did a lot of heavy lifting to make sure that franchise got seen by everybody in Norway back in the day

Can’t imagine it would hold up if I watched it today.

When I searched for the locksmith clip I can across a reddit where people were asking for it to be explained. And once explained they still didn't get why it was funny. Sigh.

And this bit always tickles me for some reason.

I suspect even the first one has aged VERY badly. Thankfully I haven't seen it since it came out and abandoned the franchise after the 3rd one. Although I suspect Porkies has aged even worse as it was fairly creepy at the time. That said I remember a few scenes were very funny to a 16 year old Wibble in 1981. From the other clips I saw this was the peak of hilarity.

my thoughts exactly. He’s like the most unfunny actor I could imagine for this role

The style of humor in Naken Gun was also very late 80s / early 90s. It will be pretty hard to replicate in the present, nevermind that they don't have any suitable actors to do it.

Spaceballs and Airplane! next.

If Hollywood hadn’t run out of ideas about a decade ago, they surely have now.

Luckily we have some original works like Beverly Hills Cop 4, Twisters, Bad Boys 4, Gladiator 2, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, to keep us entertained in the meantime.

The one most people forget is THE BIG BUS, which predates AIRPLANE! and is actually much funnier than its IMDB score would suggest. TOP SECRET too.

Everything today is a remake or reboot or uncalled for follow up or prequel to something good

Tired of this shit, make something new and come up with some original ideas or find another job
