Probably not. Because they're shite.
they´re far from shite
Probably not. Because they're shite.
They're hated by most people in Manchester that aren't students or fourteen years old.
Hated's a bit strong. Not bothered is probably a better view and would indeed be the same view that sees people not buying concert tickets.
Well yes, most are indifferent, but those in the know about Manchester's musical heritage hate them because of the very fact that they're mentioned in the same breath as our legendary bands by clueless kids.
Have you done a survey then?
I wasn't asked if you did.![]()
utter cack!!
utter cack!!
Is this discussion about The Courteeners?!
I've barely even heard of them to be honest - I have certainly never heard anyone mention them along with the Manchester greats !
Nope that opinions based on the fact that i work in music, see a lot of new Mancunian bands and meet a lot of people who are supposedly 'into music'.
Those who actually know about music, and it's history and culture with regards to Manchester, and aren't part of this new-electro-indie crew which has swept the country recently tend to agree they're pretty dire.. And i know who's opinion i care about.
And let's face it they've been found out; most would agree their last album was unspeakably poor.

Out of interest just how highly do you rate them? Where do you rate the songwriting of Frey? On a par with Squire? Marr? Gallagher? ....... Lennon?
you just think its cool to dislike them or anyone thats a bit mainstream.
I've never been into them.. They didn't fool me for a second.
Some of his lyrics are witty and brought a smirk to my face in the early days but that's it.
Nobody will still be talking about them in a few years time.
why do i have to compare??,frays lyrics make me smile, thats enough for me.
Because we're talking about some of the greatest songwriters ever and i'm intrigued to see if he falls into that category for you.
no, this thread is about Mancunian music, Middleton falls under that bracket.
Don't understand that post in relation to anything i've said.. And Middleton isn't technically in Manchester. It's in Rochdale.

Middleton's got an 0161 phone number range and an M40 postcode. Don't be confused by the metropolitan borough crap.
In the know? Come on Jamie, it's not football transfer time.
Legend and genius are banded around by kids too much these days in all walks of life, get used to it.
I know i live 5 minutes away.
The Courteeners aren't fit to sniff dog shit on the shoes of Manchester's great bands. End of.

Oasis for me are the best band ever, but. . . . .
i think Liam lost his voice in the later years, compare this video to some of his earlier performances.
