The music of Manchester

Hated's a bit strong. Not bothered is probably a better view and would indeed be the same view that sees people not buying concert tickets.

Well yes, most are indifferent, but those in the know about Manchester's musical heritage hate them because of the very fact that they're mentioned in the same breath as our legendary bands by clueless kids.

Have you done a survey then?
I wasn't asked if you did. ;)

Nope that opinions based on the fact that i work in music, see a lot of new Mancunian bands and meet a lot of people who are supposedly 'into music'.

Those who actually know about music, and it's history and culture with regards to Manchester, and aren't part of this new-electro-indie crew which has swept the country recently tend to agree they're pretty dire.. And i know who's opinion i care about.

And let's face it they've been found out; most would agree their last album was unspeakably poor.

Is this discussion about The Courteeners?!
I've barely even heard of them to be honest - I have certainly never heard anyone mention them along with the Manchester greats !

Because you are probably lucky enough not to spend time with those who'd be so foolish. :)

falcon is a good album (not a great album, but good), "sycophant" and "cameo brooch" are quality tunes.

you just think its cool to dislike them or anyone thats a bit mainstream.

I've never been into them.. They didn't fool me for a second.

Some of his lyrics are witty and brought a smirk to my face in the early days but that's it.

Nobody will still be talking about them in a few years time.

so what?

nowt wrong with throw away music, even you must have tapped your toes to some one hit wonders over the years.

Don't understand that post in relation to anything i've said.. And Middleton isn't technically in Manchester. It's in Rochdale.

Middleton's got an 0161 phone number range and an M40 postcode. Don't be confused by the metropolitan borough crap.

In the know? Come on Jamie, it's not football transfer time.

Legend and genius are banded around by kids too much these days in all walks of life, get used to it.

I know i live 5 minutes away.

The Courteeners aren't fit to sniff dog shit on the shoes of Manchester's great bands. End of.

So do I :)

Who rates The Courteeners? The trendy kids with the Ramones and Nirvana t-shirts probably who are trying to jump on a bandwagon that has no wheels. Don't worry about it so much, they're not in the same category.

Oasis for me are the best band ever, but. . . . .

i think Liam lost his voice in the later years, compare this video to some of his earlier performances.

Liams voice in 94-96 was a force of nature, theres been few better singers than he was during that period.
This last tour has been much better than he has been for about 12 years, his voice in the roundhouse gig was about as good as I've heard him since Knebworth. Apparently he's started jogging allthough I have a feeling not getting off his face on coke has helped a bit aswell.
We'll never been what he was when he was 19 but then who is?
