Manchester.

When people hear the word they often smile and undoubtedly think straight away about the football~"The world famous Manchester United" or"The Red Devils",but, another thing that comes right after that, is the reciting of a plethora of musical artists that have called Manchester their home.
In modern times Manchester has become known as somewhat of a musical mecca probably because of the youthfulness of the city and the fact it houses a shit load of colleges and universities, mix that all up with a helping of good old fashioned working class people and the city's poetic soul bears it's head.

Manchester has changed the world for the better. It's a movement,a state of mind,a walk, a fashion, a culture and it always will be.

Looking at the list of bands from Manchester on Wikipedia, none of them are brilliant.

and Oasis being there just makes it worse.

Edit: Disregard that. I just saw The Smiths. Manchester wins, I'm an idiot etc.

Sad Cafe are presumably there. They're brilliant and so is oasis.

there's been some quality stuff from manchester. mondays, roses, joy division/new order, some northside, durutti column, development of acid house etc...

then there's some truely fecking awful stuff. never rated the smiths and that morrissey's one of the biggest egotistical cnuts going. james were never really that good. oasis had a decent but overrated album, did feck all of any real worth for over a decade. there was some shite on factory too. nice artwork mind.

IMO.

The music that has come from Manchester really has been amazing. Joy Division, The Stone Roses, James, Doves, David Grays first album and top of the list The Smiths. Between the football and the music I have been heavily influenced by your little industrial city and all you Mancs really should be so proud of where you come from.

I'd like to propose that I be adopted as an official Mancunian with my case being that one of my best mates is from Manchester but doesn't follow football at all and the only Manchester band he really knows anything about is Oasis. When I was in Australia I would be getting up in the middle of the night every weekend to watch the games and he would never bother. It was a strange state of affairs.

So I was thinking I could take his place and fly the colours of Manchester

Navan in Ireland is the new manchester

YouTube - The Myth TOP OF THE WORLD

I know you're just trying to plug (shamelessly) that band but I live near Navan and I have to say it's definitely not the new Manchester or the new anything for that matter. When they got rid of that maze in the shopping centre all those years ago that was the end of that town

very shamelessly i might add.....the maze.....my childhood in two words....emotional rollercoster ha
