The Watford game is huge. One of the toughest places we could be going – They’ll be so up for it and we can’t show any sort of complacency. If we were to get a win there then we have a nice run of fixtures up the Chelsea game – I could see us turning it around rather quickly. If we lose then the knives will be out again.

I think a lot of Jose haters think that if he leaves, like a magic bullet, we will immediately play attractive football and complete for ht league title.
If we do hit the reset button, we will take several steps backwards and there won't be any league title for several years. It will be made even more difficult when you consider that Woodward is the DoF, who doesn't know much about football and is trying to save money.

Anything can happen. It’s not true we will take several step backwards and this idea of progress in football is very dated. Nowadays teams and managers are like mixing chemicals. Some react well and some don’t. It’s not a question of “give it time”

If Jose does eventually succeed it is not because the players finally are playing the way he wants but rather certain players would have improved and/or new signings would have changed the equation (going back to the chemical reaction example)

This is the reason why a new manager may spark attractive football

You're reading too much into things. We're football fans who cheer when we win and complain when we lose.

That said, let's not pretend that 1 victory against a vastly inferior outfit in Burnley is anything to write home about. If we continue to perform well as a cohesive unit for the foreseeable future, then Jose will gradually win the back the fans, but as of right now I still think his time is up. He will need nothing short of a miracle performed in order to stay beyond this season regardless.

What difference would it have made if we beat Tottenham or Brighton, then? Both inferior, too.

We beat City last season, so why the hell was this place moaning so much last season?

Ok, I’m in the Mourinho out camp but I’m prepared to give him a chance to turn it around. What makes things worse during this time of doom is that our two biggest rivals are catching up. They’re playing the football that United should be and maybe that is pushing me towards a faster change so that’s impairing my judgement a bit. When United weren’t great in the 70s 80s it was just Liverpool dominating but now things have changed.

Mourinho: "They say I'm in danger, but I don't think it. If they send me away, do you have any idea how much money they would have to give me?"

Point being, Jose has already attempted to rectify the central defensive problem by spending £50 million+ on two replacements that have not lived up to expectation. How many attempts does he get at fixing the problem before enough is enough?

You can afford to be nonchalant about the loss of £50 million because it's not your money that has been wasted, but the moneymen at the club do not get that luxury. United do not have City money.
Who is talking about spending 50 mil on top of that? This is becoming one of those stories when you repeat repeat and repeat something and that becomes the holy truth. I am sure that jose didn't want toby on top of his 6 defenders. He sold blind for 20. He wanted to sell one more( rojo) for 30. Maybe even jones. So those transfers would be budget for toby. At the same time he didn't invest in right winger or left back or proven right back. Club saved 100 mil on those positions which he wanted to cover.
And i am just curious. When can jose buy new defender? 2021? 2022? What is time period when you can buy another player on some position? Barca is buying one attacking player per year. They don't know your rules i guess....

Why are then people surprised we can't compete with them?
Why the likes of Chelsea who don't have United's money, seem able to compete with them? Or even Liverpool - which have even less money - destroyed them in UCL and this season seem to be the team which will give them most problems in the league?

That's just speculation though. We have no idea how this season is going to pan out, this early on. Yes, Liverpool beat City over two legs, and we beat City in the league. It doesn't mean we're better than them.

Funny how he can go from
Shushing the fans to giving away jackets and kissing scarfs. I hope he becomes a success here but I still need convincing.

I think this has been an awakening for Mourinho. He's worked at some big clubs notably Madrid and Inter, and he knows you don't get time and their fans are notoriously impatient.

His philosophy has always been, buy big, experienced names, get results, win trophies. On paper this is a winning formula for big teams with big ambitions. I'm willing to bet this is what Mourinho thought he was doing when he came to United. Jose knows he would be gone by now if he was at Madrid and I'm willing to bet he's been humbled by the fans response over the last couple of weeks.

If he didn't know what United was about it, he certainly does now. Let's hope this is him finally coming round to the idea of following United's philosophies instead of believing he know's best.

He has a point though, because of that ridiculously unnecessary contract extension he was given, if the club did indeed want to 'send him away' as he puts it, they probably would have to pay him a crap tonne of money, shows how badly this club is run at times.

I wish there was an option to vote twice. I want him gone. He's divided the fans so much. I now understand when @carvajal explained about the 'Mourinistas' or however it's called at Madrid. They just couldn't find any fault with this man. Completely baffling.
He could win the CL and I want him gone.
He's politicking like crazy and has convinced some fans it's all Ed's fault. We know Ed is not blameless in some things, but to say Ed hasn't supported him is ludicrous. As his employer he has every right to demand that he do better with the resources at hand.

The club is making a mistake keeping him around. The longer it goes on, the more trouble he causes, as he shifts the blame elsewhere.

Let him and his mate Duncan go console themselves elsewhere.

Mourinho, though, has no such fears, laughing as he told La Repubblica: “If they sent me away, do you have any idea how much money they would have to give me?!”

“They say I'm in danger, but I don't think so.”

That's a nothing statement, it was said in jest more than anything. Of course the journo decided to paint a different picture entirely.
Similar behaviour as to when he dared Chelsea to sack him which they duly did.
I wouldn't be too smug if I were him...

When jokingly asked to admit that it was he who paid for the fly-over, Mourinho replied: “No... but I could have!”

The whole interview looks obviously a sarcasm but if some want to take it seriously because it suits their agenda, then it's not my problem!

Ultimately the problem is that Jose was given a chance right there to back Ed Woodward and instead he joked about it. That doesn't help the situation, all it does is pour fuel on the fire.

Woodward is a prick. He works for the Glazers who want one thing and that is to make money. They don't care if the team wins the league or not, they are in it to benefit financially.
They don't buy players unless they fit a sell on mould or a marketing mould. If we needed someone eg Alderwiereld, he fits neither mould thats why he wasn't bought, Perisic. They suck the life out the club for money and always will, yes they invest, but only in investments that are good for the pocket.

Look at the question itself. He was asked if he was paid for the banner! The questions themselves were in sarcasm tone. The whole interview looks like that.

If we're taking sides here, I'm always gonna take Jose's side over that snivelling little gremlin Woodward and his Glazer cronies. Jose's far from perfect, but he's not as bad as them.

But the point is that given the clubs drama right now, it'd have been better for Jose to back Woodward. Instead he joked about it, all that will do is encourage more incidents like this which will not help. He could have simply been professional and called the fly-over stupid and unnecessary. He loves the drama though.

Umm, the question itself was a joke from the start. You respond to a joke by a joke. The purpose of this interview looks like it wasn't done for serious purposes at all otherwise he wouldn't have been asked if he was paid for the fly over!

He backed him in the presser yesterday and said previously the relation between him and Ed is fine.

Unbelievable that someone takes something negative from that interview. Mourinho is usually more open and «fun» when being interviewed by foreign publications.

Hahah, how funny would it be if Mourinho secretly ran plane banners against Woodward

Aww bless.

I like how you talk about entrenched opinions (hardly anyone doesn't criticise him at all) then proceed instantly to say you'd sack him even after a CL win. Yeah you're the almighty logical one here

Then that makes you no better than the people you're calling out.

You find it 'baffling' that Mourinho has staunch support and yet you'd want him gone even if he won the CL - that's equally as baffling.

It’s completely fine to be critical of the manager, but come on!

Why is that crazy? If anything it’s showing he isn’t a gloryhunter and wants what is best for the club which he perceives as a severing of ties with Jose.

The best for the club would be to.... win the biggest and most prestigious trophy available? If anything the poster is putting personal bias ahead of what is best for the club.

Pretty much sums it up! In a sense the international break comes at a good time, as it could disrupt Watford’s impressive run.
