The Most Quotable Films Of All Time

That's a good point actually, the most quoted films nowadays (not ever, obviously) are mostly comedy films.

Old School
Anchorman
Borat
Dodgeball

Anchorman is probably the stand out, it's 5 years old now and everybody knows the quotes inside out and constantly says them, big achievement for a comedy I reckon.

think someone had this here already but "show me the money" from Jerry Maguire.

also: Rocky "yo, Adrian!" gets used all the time if you know someone with that name.

one that's faded now: "I'm not an animal, I'm a human being" from Elephant Man.

My thought as well about Anchorman

"His name is Robert Paulson"
"I see dead people"

"I told you I'm never going back".

Also from my favourite film Carlito's Way:

"chick Steffie belongs to the club"

"Who the feck are you? I should remember you? What, you think you like me? You ain't like me motherfecker, you a punk. I've been with made people, connected people. Who've you been with? Chain snatching, jive-ass, maricon motherfeckers. Why don't you get out of here and go snatch a purse."

"You think you're big time? You gonna feckin' die big time! You ready? HERE COMES THE PAIN!"

Another favorite of mine is Al Pacino as Lefty in Donnie Brasco;

"Wiseguy dont carry his money in a wallet, wiseguy carry his money in a roll, greener on the outside". - I still live by that philosophy.

"You keep your feckin mouth shut about me Donnie"

Top, top film that is criminally under-rated.

'Shop Smart, Shop S-Mart'

or

'Well hello Mr. Fancy Pants'

Yes, this man wins big. Bruce Campbell is my hero.

"Grooovy"

"Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five."

"I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things, right now: Jack and shit... and Jack left town."

"Hail to the king, baby."

"Now whoa whoa whoa right there spinach chin!"

Hes a legend all right.

'Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures.'

'Thats just what we call pillow talk baby, thats all'

Although this is a long one, I remember when it came out everyone knew the whole verse. And I just watched it last night, it was class.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.

Great line/scene but he took it from another movie(and the bible I know). In the beginning of The Bodyguard(Sonny Chiba movie, pretty sure its The Bodyguard), that pops up on the screen. Although Lord is replaced with Chiba the Bodyguard.

What about The Big Lebowski? Kung Pow - Enter the Fist? This seems more like a list of memorable quotes than a list of quotable films. As jdmufc said no tarantino? Robert Rodriguez is pretty quotable, every Arnie film ever made is quotable.

"Get to the Chopper!"

"You see what happens when you feck a stranger in the ass, Larry?!?!"

I like this line in Annie Hall:

Don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone I love.

That is a great quote

There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly. The... the other important joke, for me, is one that's usually attributed to Groucho Marx; but, I think it appears originally in Freud's "Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious," and it goes like this - I'm paraphrasing - um, "I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member." That's the key joke of my adult life, in terms of my relationships with women.

Love that opening bit.

Good choice and I agree that it is a very under-rated film. There are many good lines and scenes in that film.

Oh, and lest we forget: Dr Strangelove.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight here! This is the War Room!"

Nice one Ivor. I could come up with a hundred quality quotes from Woody Allen. In fact, of the bit you have sent I actually prefer the bit you havent highlighted:
