Which is weird, because in the magazine version of the list - which is right in front of me - Jaws is #1! I'm glad it isn't on the above because it's not as memorable or as good as others, in my opinion.

3, 4, 18, 19, 20 are my favourites.

What about The Big Lebowski? Kung Pow - Enter the Fist? This seems more like a list of memorable quotes than a list of quotable films. As jdmufc said no tarantino? Robert Rodriguez is pretty quotable, every Arnie film ever made is quotable.

"Get to the Chopper!"

There's a quote from Swingers (Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau) in my magazine version (#15) which I love: "You're so money, man."

indeed, quotes like:

"Zed's dead baby, zed's dead" from Pulp Fiction?

or "I'ma get medieval on your ass"

should be in that list

I'm more of an

"Any of you mother feckers move, and I'll execute everyone last mother fecking one of ya"

myself.

Possibly too vulgar for a list!

also things like lock stock and trainspotting were probably only quoted in the uk because the quotes didnt make sense anywhere else

That's true. Although some legendary quotes there were, probably not International.

Class line that (though it's "prick's move"! ;)), along with Zed's dead. I like:

"It'd have to be one mother fecking charming pig", though not that famous or deserved of the above list.

Pretty much the whole of Alec Baldwin's five minute cameo in 'Glengarry Glenross' should be on any 'quotable dialogue' list.

Life of Brian and Airplane so low, and no Holy Grail? I fart in that list's general direction.

i prefer:

frankly, my dear, i don't give a damn

( one i've always wanted to use and eventually got the chance with my 2nd fiance - very pleasing ;) )

Great line.

I reckon Alan Partridge's parody might even beat it though:

"Flattley my dear, I don't RiverDance... give a damn..."

 Maybe not.

Anything from Don Logan in Sexy Beast would make my list. So many classics in there.

Pulp Fiction should definitely be on there. There's loooads from that film.

"Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead"
"You know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in Paris? A Royale with Cheese"
"Any of you fecking pricks move, and I'll execute every motherfecking last one of you!!!"

Full Metal Jacket has some great ones too.

"Me love you long time"
"I didn't know they stacked piles of shit that high"
"This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for fighting, this is for fun"

I love Al Pacino in Heat, probably not a popular choice but the scenes where goes to see his informant - and also where Pacino persuades Roger Benzance and talks about a womans arse. feck, I want to watch that film again right now.

I think you know a quote is famous and good when you know it but don't know where it came from. Which is kind of the point of the original list I feel. Basically, I did not know this quote was from that film (never seen it).

The Dude: Obviously you're not a golfer.

Donny: I am the Walrus

Wayne: A gun rack... a gun rack. I don't even own *a* gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I gonna do... with a gun rack?
Stacy: You don't like it? Fine. You know Wayne, if you're not careful, you're going to lose me.
Wayne: I lost you 2 months ago. We broke up. Are you mental? Get the net!

There're some quotes in there that shouldn't be there. I mean who the hell quoteths: You're going to need a bigger boat?

Where is the more commonly used: "Life is like a box of chocolates" or "Run, Forrest Run". I use the latter when watching tiring spastic joggers in the park.

Love it.

What, no Mae West quotes? Any of these should be in the top 20:

'...come up sometime and see me...' She Done Him Wrong (1933)
usually corrupted to 'Come up and see me sometime' as in eg Top Gun

'Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?' - She Done Him Wrong, and Sextette (1978)

"Well, it's not the men in your life that counts, it's the life in your men." - I'm No Angel (1932)

'When I'm good, I'm very, very good, but when I'm bad, I'm better.' - I'm No Angel

Also:

'Made it, Ma! Top of the world' - James Cagney in White Heat (1948)

"I am Spartacus." Kirk Douglas (1960)

'Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me' - Kenneth Williams, Carry On Cleo (1964) - borrowed from the classic radio show 'Take It From Here'

Robocop should be on that list for "I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Snatch, anyone?

"Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible cnut... me"

yes my favourite film too
i went through a period when i decided i was just like scarlett - except without the green eyes and 19 inch waist ;)
hehe. It's a wonderful life is second on her list. Pisses me off at Christmas when they air it 20 times a day and she's watching them all
Back in the VCR days, she recorded Gone With The Wind off the tv and I ended up recording over it. She was well pissed at me for a while until I got her the DVD package thingy for her for Christmas.
