The Modern / Current Players Draft

I'm skeptical of the Dortmund picks tbh. Same (a little bit with the Atletico ones). All of their players have excelled under Klopp but struggled under any other system. Even Gotze hasn't hit the heights he was expected to (yet).

Vidic was shit outside Fergie's system :wenger:

It's a lie though, he was great in Spartak

2006–2008 Znicz Pruszków 32(21)
2008–2010 Lech Poznań 58(32)
2010–2014 Borussia Dortmund 131(74)
2014–Bayern Munich 20(10)

I'd say he's been pretty consistent.

Reus played his best season at Gladbach, Götze had games for Germany that were as good, if not better, than anything he has done at Dortmund and also quite a few great games for us. Hummels played a brilliant World Cup up to the final, where he sadly wasn't fit (as usual he got sick, that guy catches more colds than any other footballer I've ever heard of). It's just the two, who aren't even picked yet, who failed to hit the same heights in other teams.

I think the way a lot of our players fell off a cliff after he left says a lot about him and them.

Vidic was also injured and over the hill when he left, and was good before United (Serbia famous 4).

Can't speak to his Polish exploits, but I thought he hadn't been very good in Munich. Nothing against they guy - one of the top strikers today, but it would worry me if you have a side not based on fast transitions.

I rate Lewandowski highly but that thread on him ruined it for me. Couldn't take a chance on him. For what it's worth I think most of the comments in that thread are rubbish.

Well look what the cat dragged in :D. Nice pick too. I was quite jealous at the prospect of someone getting him this late but he's a bit similar to Villa for me to consider myself.

Glad he lasted. Thought someone might snap him up. Round 7 seems odd for him since in the last modern draft he was first round I think.

Vidic was past his prime when he left us. Same can't be said of Goetze or Lewa.

Not saying it is a bad pick, just that the comparison is not valid. :wenger:

I wasn't serious

Gotze is doing alright, imo, and will only be better from now on. Lewandowski isn't thriving in Pep's system (no surprise here), but he isn't bad and it's too early to judge him.

We're a fickle bunch I guess, and alot of people haven't been impressed by him at Bayern. For what its worth I watch a reasonable amount of Bayern matches and I think he's been good overall.

If we judge players by the threads on here, Di Maria and Falcao are in trouble. Lewandowski was good once...But these 20 or so games at Bayern really show the other 200 games in his career were a sham :p

Pep got rid of Zlatan and Eto'o as well, so it's not a huge surprise Lewandowski hasn't been as influential as he was in that Dortmund side. But it's also a step up in overall quality players, plus a different system and role for him. I still wouldn't say a goal ratio of almost 1 in 2 is bad, which is what he's maintained pretty much throughout his career.

Great players will do well in any system. Lewandowski as well. I don't think he has been been bad or anything. He has had good games as well as bad games. People forget its his fiest season and not every player starts firing off immediately. Its a trend nowadays. If a new signing doesn't do well in the first four to five months, then he is immediately labled as a flop. If a youngster doesn't start performing immediately, he is considered a failure. Everyone reacts differently. I am absolutely confident than Lewa would do well with Bayern.

 Yep. I think we can reasonably conclude that every player today apart from Messi is a bit shite, and we all deserve to get eliminated in the first round.

The good thing is, that all the defenders are shit anyway, so it's no big deal if your striker isn't considered that great. I guess it's all about the midfield then.

Cracking pick.
