The brazilian translator is hilarious. He's so bad

He loves being there, pretty much doesn't translate anything that the fighter is saying and just makes it up as he goes :lol:

:lol: yeah the guy is annoying. At the weight ins he went on a ridiculous rant. Probably manager/translator.
 
He looked like he was on his way to being finished but not nearly close enough to call it. I wouldn't go as far as to call it "the worst" which is what a lot are. The worst would be when a referee isn't protecting the fighter, and for how shit it was, at least MacDonald can say he was trying to do that. Other referees have let fighters take incredible amounts of damage long after they should have called it.
 
His reaction to the stoppage suggested to me what Ray Borg suggested - that he was playing possum. There were really no clean strikes to the head that landed, so the wobble was all an act imo, especially as it looked so theatrical.
 
Clean strikes definitely landed. There's an exchange at about 4:37 where he eats a left and comes away looking wobbly, causing MacDonald to immediately consider stopping it. If he's playing possum, that's an insanely stupid strategy because his reaction not only got Macdonald's attention but also caused Ankalaev to throw a high left kick. At 4:32, it looks as if another high left kick connects. When an opponent is spamming kicks like Ankalaev was, that is no time to be playing mind games.

I'm more inclined to go with Bisping's analysis as he called the fight and suggest he was out on his feet. The wild swing prior to MacDonald stepping in didn't really do anything to suggest otherwise.

No doubt in mind. He wansn't hurt as nothing really hit him.
 
Why would you fake wobbly legs, stand stationary, and allow your opponent to throw a high kick at your head? Really not getting that one.

Suppose for a second he did and it was some planned trap for Ankalaev. Surely part of the plan would be to fire off with your own punch or kick after luring him in, none of which Cuțelaba did or looked capable of. He only threw completely aimless overhand rights.

Its not unheard of for MMA fighters to do this. Anderson Silva was a showman who attempted to lure his opponents into a false sense of security in a similar fashion. He got knocked out as a result once by Chris Weidman. Cutelaba is also a bit of a showman in this regard.

You underestimate his mentalism.

Sure, showboating is a thing, but he was wobbling for a solid ten seconds by the time the referee stopped it and only looked capable of throwing haymakers. If that was what it was, he might have wanted to reassess that bold strategy sooner.

Silva acted exactly like he was - a cocky champion who justifiably felt invincible. He was leaning back and actually looked like a dick pretending to be hurt, whereas Cutelaba wasn't throwing anything that could be remotely considered as composed. Don't really see any similarities between the two.

The moment the ref called it, he immediately turned in disbielief and protested. I dont believe you can do that if concussed. Have another look....

The stoppage was too early. That's not in dispute.

Arguing that he was playing possum or showboating? Nope.

Yep. His animated reaction was a good indicator that there was absolutely nothing wrong with him at the time.

That's not to say Ankalaev wouldn't have won the fight legitimately later on though.

Not as bad as the ref perceived it, maybe, but wouldn't quite go that far.

Shit stoppage but just glad it wasn't Mazzagatti overseeing someone being choked lifeless whilst he mentally prepares his shopping list.
 
What is Luis Pena's ceiling ? I'm high on that guy, he looks like a killer, violent bob ross, his hair...and he is an interesting prospect, but how far can he actually go in the deepest division in the sport ?
 
Looks like Marlon Moraes vs Peter Yan is going to be booked as the headliner for the event in Kazakhstan on 13 June :drool: . I imagine Yan will be the favourite but it's very competitive imo. Moraes has the better,, deeper résumé at this point and seems to have more power, but he has shown some cardio issues, while Yan seems very durable as well as being a superb boxer.
