There’s no NYE event listed yet so these two could easily fight again within 7 weeks imo- and since Usman and Covington fight two weeks earlier, they could easily time a winner of those two v Madvidal or Nate sometime in the spring.

His cardio is a bit of a myth though. He's been in 2 five round fights and lost them both.
Nates defensive tactics of not moving with punches and turtling up till the punches stop finally caught up with him
I wouldn't say it's a myth, all judges in the McGregor fight had Diaz winning the fifth round for instance. I understand where you're coming from though.
I wanted masvidal to win because I am a massive fan of his, borderline fanboy maybe. But... I honestly thought Nate would win tonight, somehow. I thought Nate's chin, cardio and BJJ would do it but I was so wrong. Masvidal tore him apart. I reckon Masvidal could've ended it much earlier if he wanted to.
Well that was BS. Was a good fight and did feel like going in to the later rounds Nate would probably step up the pace and preasure. Best bit was when Nate was on his back and had Masvidal locked and was just smacking him and said What’s up!!

Having great cardio doesn’t mean he would’ve won, just that Masvidal wouldn’t have had the speed and unpredictability advantage he had over Nate early on in the later rounds, which is the sort of thing Nate would’ve been able to exploit. Ive seen plenty of times where Nate won fights despite his own face being caked in blood on the way to winning.
Even in the third when Nate finally put a punch or two together Jorge went back to the body and utterly stopped him.
It's so kind to Nate to predict any sort of outcome other than more punishment and a stoppage, which Masvidal wasn't even pushing for I don't think.
All the chat and gesturing, he wanted to milk it for as many rounds as possible to feed the BMF hype and put on a show.
There’s a massive financial advantage for both of them and the UFC to fight again since Nate is one of the biggest PPV draws in the sport and both fighters would get points, which let’s face it, is what they are after. Nate won’t be fighting much longer and both of them want to earn the big money paydays that have eluded them for most of their long careers.
Literally anything can happen with Nate though. Conor seemed in control in the early rounds of their first fight until Nate connected from seemingly nowhere and within seconds Conor was on the ground tapping out.

From what I saw Masvidal absolutely schooled him. Nate took a battering and still managed to stay in the fight which was impressive but Masvidal was never in serious trouble though. I've not felt sorry for nate diaz for a while but tonight I genuinely feared for his health and that's why I'm happy the doctor stopped it.
I don't think they will fight again and I dont see why they should. This fight was purely an excuse to make money, Diaz and Masvidal have no animosity towards each other.
It was fun to watch but I cant see the appeal in watching Masvidal punch Nates head in again for a made up belt.
Couple of other interesting fights to make at WW would be Masvidal v Edwards or Woodley.
Edwards or the winner of Colby vs Usman. I think I read somewhere that Woodley and Masvidal are pals or something.
Another interesting one might be Wonderboy again since Wonderboy was the last one to beat him however it
probably makes more sense to wait for a title shot and if not that then Edwards. If it’s money then there is no bigger fight in that division than running It back with Nate.
Conor was in control but totally gassed himself showing off and couldnt put Nate away, Jorge was not in any risk of the same I don't think. As I said, when Nate got a small amount of respect back he went right back to the body and completely took the air out of him.
Its just a pointless fight, it'll be the same result!
In a great division you could have Edwards, Woodley or Colby/Usman, running that back is just a waste of time other than for the payday which is fair enough but I've no massive interest in seeing Masvidal feck him up again.
A good watch is exactly why there is value

Nate said he came into the fight with his cut from the Pettis fight not fully healed, so despite Masvidal looking great, there’s a pretty strong sentiment fights like this should be decided in the Octagon and not by arbitrary Doctors decisions. This is why I think they will fight again - the fans were disappointed and the money is too good for all parties involved.

As a fan, I hope they don't have a rematch. For them it is a nice payday but the whole thing was farcical. Nate, having smashed Pettis then calls out masvidal (very respectfully) and said Jorge masvidal, who was in the crowd, had "a great last fight" referring to the 5 second KO against askren.
I was looking forward to the fight because I love Masvidal and it was funny seeing Nate Diaz calling himself a gangster and masvidal a gangster but that he ain't no west coast gangster. It reminded me of when I thought I was from Compton after playing san Andreas and listening to NWA when I was 12 years old. honestly I like the diaz brothers but I cant take Nate seriously and the whole bmf thing is just ridiculous. The rock aswell, maybe I'm too british and boring.
The only saving grace for me was that he doctor stopped it and didn't give a feck about the show. He was there to do his job.
I just cant see it. Masvidal dominated him for 15 minutes and Nates face was so cut up he wasnt allowed to continue.

That would make more sense if Masvidal won the fight on merit and not by way of an arbitrary decision made by a NY doctor. One would also have to question whether a doctor in another state would've stopped the fight since the NY doctors are a bit new to MMA there.

Jorge on the other hand looked loose, brought way more tools to the table, quick as a cat and even looked like the stronger man (think he even alluded to feeling that himself after the fight).
Should the fight have been stopped in that manner? Probably not, especially by MMA standards.
Would the fight have had a different outcome if it continued? For me, almost certainly not.

I would believe this if Dom wasnt literally warning about the stoppage minutes before it happened. If Dom sees it then it isnt that arbitrary, its just people blinded by the BMF let them bleed buildup imo. Its why Nates made up late round cardio is doing the rounds just to add something to it.
Nate couldnt see out of his eye for the entire third round, hes constantly wiping away blood and Masvidal seemed to be timing the wipes.
Its a problem thats plaguing mma, if someone isnt well beat or if a hyped fight hasnt got a crystal clear winner then rematch is shouted from rooftops.
I wouldnt want it stopped but i can see why so its fair enough. Nate had nothing for him so nobody was really robbed, and there was real danger that if Masvidal caught the eye between the two cuts that his left side of his face could literally be ripped off.
Edit Dana said Nate is out for a really long time and needs plastic surgery to recover.
If its not so close to his eye he gets away with it.

So funny reading stuff after the event. I've never seen a fighter get such a pass as Diaz in the last few weeks. Dodgy drug test....not his fault, gets battered for a whole fight and it gets stopped but he was about to get going so deserves s rematch. It's funny the bias that's involved but cos he's a well liked fighter no one bats an eyelid
Just saw the fight. Even as a relative novice, I agree with everything you say.
Though I’m glad the fight was cut short as the eye injury looked like it could get a whole lot worse.
Of course. Fighter safety is paramount. It’s easy for people to criticise and poke holes in the decision; however, it’s not their health and wellbeing at risk. Like gambling, it’s so easy to play with other people’s money - in fighting, it’s easy to dictate what should/shouldn’t happen when it’s not your brain being rattled and your face being busted up.
There’s such a stigma in MMA that cuts should not ends fights and that the towel should not be thrown in. Well, Nate Diaz is one of the toughest men to ever grace the Octagon and he’s had both of these things happen to him - The towel came in in the Josh Thomson fight and then obviously last night. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone. These guys are so tough, they will never quit on themselves, so sometimes it demands a medical practitioner/loved one/trusted cornerman to decide when enough is enough.
Talk of Nate back by Feb seems wildly optimistic. That'd be the time frame for someone without an ocean of scar tissue that barely allows surface level healing. Even if cleared to go back in because superficially he looks healed, a few solid shots in place and he'll tear like wet paper.
The miles on the clock to blocking punches with your face have finally caught up with him, besides, he didn't look in the same class as Masvidal, who was dicking around a lot in there and the moment Nate tagged him a few times in the third, he got far nastier and destructive.
If the fight was allowed to go on Nate would've ended up looking like a patchwork quilt as, with serious head on, Masvidal would have homed in on that eye.

Gastellum just falls short every time he needs to step up a gear. I always thought he was a future champ of the division, but have my doubts now as his proverbial wall is more in evidence the times he falls short.
Till, my opinion on him hasn't really changed from way back in the thread, and the humbling few fights prior to this convincing win have done him the world of good. V2.0's journey starts now.
Wonderboy, anyone who has done martial arts should have a measure of awe for what he does and appreciate how difficult it is to pull off. Dana shit-boated the guy and sent him down the river for being 'boring' and Wonderboy lost his way and his confidence to some degree because of that and started trying to fight in an atypical fashion to appear more entertaining or what have you. I'm glad he's shedded that skin as in his own style, he's still way up in the division. Dana won't give him a shot so I guess Wonderboy will get a number of really difficult fights after another in the hope he's defeated eventually.
