Worst part is, he literally gave the headshot away. Dove right into it trying to start the fight off with a takedown.
Close. Jones had a bit more volume but could’ve gone either way.
I'm a Jones fan so happy he won but I'm not sure he deserved to. Sloppy and way too cautious. He showed no killer instinct once it was apparent that Santos had one leg. I know he was wary of his power but when it's that close on the scorecard and your opponent has a bum knee you need to take advantage.
The last two fights Jon has looked like he doesnt care anymore. I dont think he enjoys fighting like he used to.
He perhaps feels like he has nothing to prove anymore. He's often guilty of fighting down to his opponents too.
Jones won but far from convincing.

If he doesn't start more cautiously in his next fight then I don't know. He looked in good shape and I had big hopes for him this time round. Careless isn't the word.
Should be a rematch once the knee of Santos heals. Jones showed no killer instinct in the fight. And man the welt on the leg of Jones. He'll be hobbling for a while.

Wasn't as clear cut as some are making out. I had 1 2 5 santos and 3 4 jones. 2 is the iffy one. Could go either way as reflected by the split decision.
A rematch because of the split decision and also because I feel Santos was giving Jones enough to think about in the first two rounds. First fighter I have seen who gave Jones a bit of trouble with leg kicks. Surprised that Jones did not go in for takedowns.

Not seen any of the card except the full 5 seconds of Masvidal fight. Askren can't say shit to anyone again I'd imagine after that.
Not seen last night bit not sure about that with the Gus fight. Their first fight was really close then the second he completely outclassed him. I think most rematches with someone like Jones go the same way cos he isn't to ignorant to see where he can improve like other fighters i.e. Luke Rockhold. The steroids might help to but he's prob been on them since the start

Why out of interest? The strikes after? Probably out of order but he stopped as soon as the ref pulled him off. His press conference be explains the dislike. Masvidal has always been pretty decent to other fighters look at the Till fight as an example. I don't see what's wrong with him rating himself highly either? He's a fighter at the end of the day if he didn't rate himself he'd be in massive trouble as would any other fighter.
Re Rockhold it's cos he's really cringing and awkward to watch and smug. His huge problem is his defence yet he is to arrogant to change it. I don't hate him but I'm not really a fan. I think he fights Smith next and Smith probably KOs him to

Hilarious seeing Askren getting finished like that. Can see him completely sinking now he's in the UFC and fighting higher level opposition. The absolute top guys of that division will walk through him IMO.

It was far from being 'easily won' fight. His opponent had to change his fight plan completely due to an injury he suffered in the first round, but Jones was still reluctant to engage and finish him. He didn't even try to take him to the ground at all once it was evident Santos' knee was done. That injury greatly affected Santos' output and attack plan and impeded his movement greatly.
Easily won? Hell no!
Was Jones ever in any trouble? No, IMO. That would constitute as another day at the office for any other fighter. Same goes for Khabib. He gets punched by Johnson and people question him. Listen, it was far from stellar from Jones but that shows you the level he is at. Also, fighters take into consideration injuries or they quit so I don’t really want to hear anymore about the knee. Jones was injured too but the looks of things.
On another note, Smith vs Rockhold. Well I might start to feel sorry for him at this point. Smith could easily be a heavyweight imo and truly belongs in the light heavyweight division. He’s going to fecking maul Luke.

Shear fact he had to be extra cautious against an injured opponent says he was in some trouble. Not to mention Santos tagged him pretty nicely in some exchanges and made him respect his power and skill. There's also the fact that Santos with his injured leg still managed to severely hurt Jones' inner left thigh. There's also the fact that Jones was unable to close the distance and take Santos down despite him being injured, Jones seemed to be quite uncomfortable in there imo.
Would you write it down as a "day in the office" due to Jones having an off day or Santos making things difficult for Jones despite his injury?

I didn’t see it as Jones failing to close distance. It was brilliant fight IQ. Look if you get close to Santos then there is a good chance that he’ll spark you out with one punch. I didn’t see anything really that troubled Jones. His guard was up at all times. He kept the pressure. He dominated the fight for me, and apart from a couple flurries from Santos, which didn’t even put Jones in trouble, I don’t see what he could have done except for knocking the guy out.
Any other fighter would be thrilled with that victory.

I wasn’t. I used to think that he’s a fecking muppet who sniffs gear, does hit and runs and does PED’s. But then I realised that all that does not make him a GOAT category fighter. Then you get wise to how pretty much half of all sport try to get away with cheating, and the only crime is getting caught.
Yeah I’m won over by sheer fact that he’s just undeniably superb and that it’s a joy to watch him.

Look I think there’s like a misunderstanding. Was this one of the toughest fights for Jones? Yes. But then I’m trying to say that even then he hardly broke a sweat. Watch the fight again.
Watch Nate v McGregor 2 and see McGregor absolutely leaving it all in the octagon. That’s not an easy fight. I guess we have a different perspective, which is perfectly fine, mate. I don’t think there’s a right or a wrong answer here.
