The MMA thread

I'm not sure what to make of this type of behaviour. I can only think of two possible explanations:

1- Narcissism: Any blow to a narcissist's ego sees the narcissist in question lash out. An example in football might be Jose Mourinho. On this case, Dustin humiliating him on a worldwide stage, denting his legacy in the process could have resulted in the perplexing level of anger, vitriol, and hatred that Conor seems to have towards Dustin.

2- Showmanship: Perhaps he isn't mentally unstable, but is choosing to engage in some pretty unstable behaviour because he thinks that rant at the end could set up a 4th fight. Or perhaps he tried to antagonize Dustin to set up a brawl that would dominate the next day's headlines instead of Dustin's performance.

In my opinion, there are lines that shouldn't be crossed and the latter shouldn't be invoked as a defense when people rightfully call someone like him the pejorative you just did. He's a clown. And I'm glad there has been backlash to his actions because this type of behaviour should not be normalized, moving forward.

Since when did anyone put any value in what comes out of his mouth? I stopped listening years ago. Utter gibberish back then, utter gibberish now.

Has anybody ever fought each other 4 times before? If Conor wins they’ll try and do a fifth, not that he will. He doesn’t have the dedication or desire to pull off such a comeback, wouldn’t surprise me if he got pissed and sniffed straight after the fight.

They will keep re-running this fight until McGgregor somehow wins. If that means we end up with McGregor vs. Poirier IX, then so be it

It's worth noting that Mcgregor is a man who attacked a bus full of people and as far as we're aware of, never apologized (At least in public)

Very concerning behaviour from him. Hopefully Dustin will not take what happened lightly. And that nothing bad happens.

I actually thought he did okay from the ground, he caught Dustin with some elbows himself and upkicks. Dustin caught him with some nice elbows as well. It was shaping up nicely, Conor caught him early with nice kicks and a nice left at one point, went for the choke and got taken down himself. I still think Dustin would have won the fight but you could tell Conor worked on his all around game as opposed to last fight where it looked like all he did was focus on his boxing. At the very end of the round he was hanging on, but in hindsight he had a broken leg.Good luck to Dustin, always like his fights.

He cheated from the ground, illegally grabbing Dustin's glove and pulling on to it multiple times. It helped with his upticks too.

Man i really hope dustin moves foward and we can get a title fight this year. Dustin v charles is what we mma fans want to watch next. Should be a proper war. I don't feel like seeing that irish clown in a top 10 fight again until he does something to deserve it.

Agree. Time to keep moving. Dustin vs Charles gonna be awesome.

This weekend, Khabib's heir returns to the octagon. Islam Makhachev (19-1) fights Thiago Moisés (15-4).

Good time to rewatch this great fight between two guys that could be UFC champions one day.

I just remembered McGregor ripped the piss out of RDA when he got injured in the build up to the McGregor fight... Just desserts.

McGregors career reminds me of Rousey. Had one dominant strength and did very well off of that. Eventually people got wise to it and caught up to it and he has little to no plan B. If people can nullify him the fight is pretty easy for them really. He drastically needs to change camps because he is going nowhere fast where he is. The reality is though he probably won't due to a weird sense of loyalty and also I think he likes being the big fish there who can do what he wants.

He probably fights Dustin again and loses, Dustin will take the fight cos it is still the biggest money maker and pretty easy work. McGregor fans are still there cos they have an excuse with how this fight ended so there is milage to make the fight.

The post fight stuff is honestly all a bit tragic. From the interview to the senseless ranting and he's still at it now, for a man who uses to have such confidence and self awareness he really had lost the plot.

He's won one fight at l55lbs. Lost decisively to Khabib and decisively against DP twice. He simply doesn't have the power at LW to knock these guys over like he did at FW. It's not like he can't hit them, he can, but they're not toppling over and he's suffering in the pocket. He'll rely on his star power to get another shot at DP but personally I've seen enough.

He kept going and deleted some very bad tweets this morning, including a pic of Poirer's daughter.

The prick goes way over the line.

In case anyone had any lingering doubts of what an absolute scumbag this guy is...

I think both things are true, he doesn't have one punch power in the division now like he did at 145 for example but the power is still there if he had multiple disciplines in his game which he doesn't.

He hurt Nate, he stopped Cowboy (I know it's not much of an achievement etc anymore), Dustin said he hurt him in their last fight as well. If he had something else in his game, i.e. lets say he was a good wrestler then I think he'd cause more problems and probably get a few TKOs just due to the amount of pressure he's putting on the fighter....I think if he was landing 10 punches instead of 1 for example he'd still do damage but I dont think he has it in him to learn anything else in all honesty. There is plenty of fighters who aren't the most powerful but have got TKO wins because of pressure....even Domicick Cruz has one!

If he carries on I imagine he loses to any top ranked fighter because of that unwillingness to change, he'll beat a few handpicked opponents but that'll be it. I think the ranked guys will be desperate to fight him still because he has star power and they can make a lot more money off it. Dustin would probably be happy to fight him for the rest of his career cos he'd probably win every time and he'd be making more money.

They've apparently since been deleted.

Clearly the guy is living in such an inflatedly delusional fantasy world, where he can't seem to admit he can lose a fight. Its almost Trump levels of delusion.

He's odd but the cult like fans will see past it and find it funny etc.

Some of the people in the media with traction should call it out. Rogan, Helwani etc but they won't say a word because they know if they piss him off there's no chance he's going on their shows and he still brings in huge viewers.

He’ll be broke not long after retiring, he just seems the type

He's a weird case McGregor....he puts pictures on Instagram etc of him on yachts or planes and what not but he lives relatively privately in all honesty. In the 90s for example you'd see pictures of Tyson everywhere and know he's spunking money, same with Mayweather but MCGregor we don't actually know anything like that. I'd imagine all the stuff on yachts/planes etc are all rented anyway or even possibly loaned to him for free. It's a weird one with him. I think a lot of it is ego. Whilst obviously the MMA is what he is known for he'd have a huge following and other investments if he retired tomorrow, he's not making huge cash off MMA directly albeit it obviously gives him some clout with other things (some sponsors may feck him off if he's not fighting etc.)

It will soon get to the point people will stop backing him financially though. It isn't a good look being associated with someone who is threatening to kill kids and if it gains enough traction i imagine he'll have to apologise or some will feck him off.

The threats to hurt Poirier's daughter are absolutely disgusting. I can't imagine being Dustin at the moment, and can't imagine his reaction.

None of this is "cool" or "edgy". He's just a moron, and this type of behaviour is going to result in something bad happening to him one day.

Hopefully Khabib finds him on the streets somewhere.

Dana White needs to do something. That's very troubling, very disturbing behaviour.

He obviously views Conor as a massive cash cow who can get away with doing virtually anything. The only exception would be if he disrespects Dana himself - such as training in Iceland and not wanting to come to Vegas to do UFC promotion, then having his fight cancelled. If he was any less of a cash cow he would've been banned for life after the dolly throwing incident alone.

If I was Dustin I’d take the immediate rematch and then chop away at that leg and after I’d had broken it I’d ankle lock him and rip his limb clean off after him involving his daughter. If he ends up seriously hurting McGregor — it would have been self inflicted. He doesn’t seem to realise that some words have very significant repercussions — one day he’ll learn that the brutal way and I’ll have not an ounce of sympathy for him.

I think something dodgy happened with the UFC 200 incident. I've got no proof of it all but it just seems weird that Conor can literally do whatever he wants and a fight got cancelled for something like that. Conor's fights don't even need much promotion and it was UFC 200 AND it was probably the biggest rematch ever in UFC at the time, on top of that Rousey barely did any promotion 7 fights later and he was fine with that....equally the likes of McGregor now barely do as much as they used to and Dana is fine with that. It's all a bit weird.

I dunno what it was, maybe an injury/McGregor wasn't ready/banned substances I dunno but it just always seems dead odd that it happened because the reality is compared to other stuff he has done training in Iceland is very timid and actually a pretty reasonable thing to ask to do.

I could be wrong but maybe it was the first time McGregor stepped out of line so Dana tried to show an example. Also, if memory serves me correct, Dana demanded he turn up to the presser and he didnt. Rousey was different because she probably stated she doesn't want to do promotion before coming back and also, McGregor's personality did more for the promotion of fights than Rousey's did. Now Conor promotes less but makes a big splash with what he does do.

Dana probably also thought the 200th event AND securing Brock Lesnar can cushion the blow of missing McGregor also...

I have no real insight into the above, just thoughts.

He's indulged at every level...

And that's not even showing his blatant glove grabbing inches from Dean's eyes. Incompetent ref at best, corrupt at worst.
