The MMA thread

He has Putin on speed dial so that's never gonna happen
[/QUOTE

You've not been following current events in Russia my friend. Putins support has dwindled dramatically. Before long, shit will hit fan. And for a while no one will care about the caucaus region because that's the way its always been. Maybe I'm overly dramatic but that place is very unstable and very tough. So money will talk.

He has looked untouchable in every fight, that's the thing. Nobody ever came close to giving him a fight
Tell that to Connor

I thought Gaethje would do better but it is what it is.

I bet they make McGregor v Poirier a title match. What a joke

I actually find this thread embarrassing about the bickering. Were usually all in unison about fighters.

This. Hardly the mauling people always claim...
It was a mauling in spirit before it became one in practice. Seen that fight a few times, i think only reason it lasted 4 rounds was because Khabib wanted to humiliate Conor. Could have ended it easily inside 2 if he wanted to. Conor was every bit as uncompetitive as Gaethje. Dustin was the only one who didn't just get trucked and looked like he might at least last the distance against a focused Khabib. And he couldn't either in the end

Khabib hammered McGregor on the ground for 1.5 rounds then McGregor got up and outstruck him and stopped 2/3 takedown attempts. He won fair and square but it wasn't the absolute murdering that many seem to be suggesting.

Don't believe for a second he held back either, he was gunning for Conor from the first second.

Would it be bad. Think Dustin and Conor looked two of the best against Khabib. Unless you want to throw Tibau into the hat.

I think this was your dream the night before.
Kudos cos most people forget their dreams immediately after so you got skills in that department

@Berbaclass aye Conor did well and actually looked very good as an under pressure fighter but he was humbled. Humbled big time. Khabib literally had him saying its only business mid fight. I don't think I can find anything more embarrassing after the way Conor got on. If they fight again, Khabib is selling that fight not Conor.

Dana looks like he wanted to cry in his interview and was in a deep state of shock. A few days ago, he said he loved Abu Dhabi, wanted to buy a house there and could stay there for a long time.
But as the realisation that he'd just lost a golden egg, he said at end of fight interview that 'he couldn't wait to get home'

I agree he lost fairly, no complaints with that.

What's his issue with Geathje?
Gaethje went off on Conor about not looking after his child. Called him a shit father etc. Really ugly stuff. If you want to see some really crazy trash talk then this is the fight. It would get dark.

He took him down early in round one, then spent the round clowning and taunting him and trying to get into his guard to cave his head in instead of just finishing. In the second he decided to stand up and bang and actually scored a KD, then same as the first. In the third he stood and basically dared Conor to do something. In the fourth he came out for the kill and got it, quickly and easily

At no point did Conor look anywhere near his level, at no point did it look like he had a chance. He got absolutely trucked

But like others have said, its about nuance, like with any other sport. We could see Conor beat Dustin and then Justin or Tony gets beat again.. then there's murmurs of Conor being the best again and Conor having ring rust against Khabib. Point is, it would absolutely hype a rematch to a smouldering cauldron. No way Khabib is turning that down, nevermind the eye watering money that he'd get offered.

Absolutely.

The good rival for Khabib would be Israel Adesanya. If he wins against him, there will be an option to fight Francis Ngannou (although it would mean getting some 40+ kgs of weight - perhaps not possible).
Start with Adesanya, it’s just two categories up. Some 13kgs. If (and it’s a big “if”) everything goes well, he might consider getting even more weight.
Do posts in the Other Sports section count for the Caf Awards?

Khabib will be happy herding Dagestani bears and mountain sheep by then and won’t be contactable

Absolutely.
Khabib would rightfully go into that fight as the overwhelming favorite but I do think McGregor has a puncher’s chance, and a better chance than anyone eligible to fight Khabib. If both are at their best, it would be a great fight imo.

Not sure if he comes back though. It surely means more than all McGregor’s lame retirements.

Nah, it's reality mate. You should try living in it.

You are having a laugh if you're posting that to prove Conor out struck Khabib . The bottom line is Khabib was in zero trouble the whole fight it was a walk in the park for him .
I'm Irish and a massive Conor fan but sometime you just have to admire class when you see it

I posted that to prove he was the aggressor in that round and stopped 3 takedown attempts. He won the round. He lost the fight.

I noticed you backtracked on your original post claiming you'd be back when Conor gets another thrashing. Wise choice ;)
I didn’t want to be a bad sport which is why I deleted it.

But of course I’ll be back in this thread when McTap next fights to gloat in his thrashing.

Farewell Khabib. Thanks for the memories.

Dustin was the closest guy to get to Khabib imo. Anyone wants to include Gleison Tibau, then be my guest. Conor did 'okay' I guess.

Well quite. With respect, a lot of guys have tried and they have not been able to. His pressure is too great. His stand up is actually good. And his ground game is possibly the best ever, alongside Gracie. Certainly the best two. We can look in hindsight, but he's as good as I've ever seen.

That bolded bit, are we talking about the same bit? Conor, Dustin, Justin are probably some of the best strikers in the whole MMA and he had the most trouble against Dustin i thought. I really don't know what else or how else he needs to prove himself? Anyway, i though Gaethje might knock him out, but how wrong was I?
Nah, the next level up of strikers: Wonderboy, peak Silva, Adesanya, Mighty Mouse level who don't scrap and back up their striking with evasive footwork on their exit points. Gaethje and Pourier are there to bomb and scramble; Conor is reliant on too few tools. The kind of striking I'm talking about is evasive, unpredictable and infinitely dangerous.

Khabib was getting lit up by the leg kicks tonight, but Gaethje does not shape up for the next one and the next - he stands there and wants to bomb, which keeps him in range to be grappled. Khabib fights with his chin in the air, too, but he's not afraid of getting him to get his hands on someone - if he was fighting someone who could get at his legs and his chin and then exit safely and reset, it would be something else entirely.

I am talking about the top level of strikers, though. It's clear that the element of risk in him changing levels and switching to a mauling position is the highest in the sport and terrifies opponents who have better stand-up than he does. Just absolutely nobody backs it up with the fight-ending grappling he has.

I thought Gaethje would win tonight, too, but that was a man possessed out there going all out with no let up from the moment the 1st round started. Gaethje was shell-shocked by the pressure and trying to keep this bear from pouncing on him.

Anyway, his performance tonight was fantastic, I'm just saying he's not infallible, but still the one fighter who might stylistically matchup with him in the division probably will never fight him now.

Have you employed Tony Robbins as well? Got to hand it to Tony for transporting Connar into a world of positive delusions.
