Television The Mandalorian - TV Show

That’s not really a story is it?

It was the focus of the episode. We were told this was his objective in the finale and again at the start of this episode. Clearly the next few episodes will be focussed around achieving this goal. Given Boba Fett has past dealings with the Jedi then it's clear he's going to be pivotal to the next few episodes and will probably be his Obi Wan equiviliant. It's not Game of Thrones, but not every show has to be a maze of story strands.

No, it just needs to have something to keep you interested past the superficial. It’s trading on being Star Wars. I like it, don’t get me wrong. But it’s mostly because of that fact. That can’t last forever.

Like the fact that it ended on a cliff hanger with the appearance a fan favorite character who fans have been clamoring for for almost 40 years appearing back on screen in a show that has been excellent so far in terms of quality?

You get the feeling that people just love being the contrarian. It's locked in to their DNA. Don't be surprised to read:

"Decided to give this a chance and stopped watching after one episode."

Did anyone else think, that the Marshall’s speed racer looks a lot like Anakins pod racer in Phantom manace? Like the took they built the engine part into a racer. Looks very similar.

Im not a Star Wars super fan or anything, but i found myself looking at my phone a fair bit in this episode. I loved the first series, and some of the scenery and CGI stuff looked absolutely stunning on my TV. But, there seemed to be alot of filler scenes where the Mandalorian and company travel from place to place, camping and talking bollocks "Im telling them what I'm telling you!! We all need to get along ya'll" etc.

Same here. It felt a bit pedestrian.

Enjoyed that as an episode. i like the format of the show
It has a mix between story of the week and then some times advancing the main story too (similar to first season)
I know it’s basic and very episodic but I see Baby Yoda doing literally anything and I smile. They could literally have the whole season of him poking his little head out of things and reacting and I would absolutely gobble that up and applaud like my brain is made from mush.
Same

Yeah I think it was, well part of it at least.

That’s still relying on the fact it’s Star Wars and actually continuing the story. I’m not a big fan of procedurals and it needs more to be a great show for me. What changed in 8 episodes of the first series? The story is in the same position as the end of the first episode, the characters are the same, the lead has no real charisma. I don’t dislike it but I’m not sure it survives without the Star Wars name.

You also get the feeling some people don’t know what they’re talking about.

All shows rely on its IP, what a silly statement.

No, some shows have story and character development. The Sopranos didn’t have an IP. It had strong characters and story. Like any great show would.

I like this show, but I feel the Obi-Wan TV show could be the first truly great SW live-action show.

Loved the blatant wild west homage. Mando rollin in on the speedster, people lurking in doorways watching, heads to the bar....Cobb with his blaster in a quick draw holster..... I can imagine Clint Eastwood riding his horse with Good Bad and Ugly theme in the background!

Olyphant is a underrated actor. He really should have a bigger role in the series!

They did make a mention about their paths crossing again
Hopefully we see him more towards the end of the season

Probably my least favourite episode so far. Plot didn’t progress & it felt an unnecessary episode. Visually still great but it didn’t add anything to the story... unless they’re setting up baby Yoda to turn evil :nervous:

What's with all the "main plot not progressing" complains? You know exactly what you are going to get and you keep watching and complaining. This is "story of the week" show mostly, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Another great episode.

Not much happening but it's still enjoyable. Just getting through the other species of the star wars and taking their time. It's really about to get going soon I'd say and then it'll be brilliant. Patience.

Skipped all the posts just to ask - is this a good TV show to recommend? Looking to start a new one and want to know if this is worth committing to.

That was the most Baby Yoda we've had in pretty much all of the previous episodes combined. You could say that Baby Yoda displayed clear signs of greed during this episode, Yoda wasn't a great fan of greed in the films... *gulp*

If your a fan of star wars. Then this show is 100% for you. It's really brilliant and entertaining as hell. Plus Baby Yoda.

It's old fashioned in that it isn't some great sweeping story with lots of arcs like HBO shows. It's one arc, which is pretty slow moving. It's got lots of charm though, personally, I love it. But if you're wanting some super complex story then look elsewhere.

Hmm i do like my arcs. As long as its not split into random subplots that get wrapped up in each episode (like Dexter) and actually one story that progresses each episode (sort of like The Boys as a recent example).. Then I'm in.

The main plot certainly does not progress in this show, it's very slow moving in that it's less about the main plot and more about The Mandalorian trying to survive day to day with the main plot being used as seasoning every now and then.

Ah I don't know about this! But il still give this a go. In lockdown I may as well. Thanks!

That’s the reason it’s released weekly, it’s meant to be like that. A self contained episode rather than an 8-9 hour Star Wars film split into hour long segments.

I like the story of the week stuff but I didn't enjoy this episode. It's better when there is a guest star to bounce off, like Timothy Olyphant last week. There was just the alien this week and a little of the mechanic.

I thought it was a good episode (sure it was filler, but was not boring) - lot of action throughout, X-wings, space chase, alien monsters and more screen time for baby Yoda - what's not to like? :D

The Frog lady was ridiculous though - not as bad as Jar-Jar and I lost it when she started jumping/hopping while running away

It needs an antagonist. Which I thought they were setting Gus up to be at the end of the last series. Then he just disappears for the next two episodes.

Baby Yoda being the ultimate heel would be great
They’ve hinted at it before. One episode in season one where he couldn’t get enough of mando shooting at some people.

Star Wars has always shown that there is a fine balance between good and evil when it comes to the force. The fact that the child is stuck watching a murderous bounty hunter kill people is unlikely to push him to the good side

Im good with that. I expect if that ever happens it will be so far down the line due to the amount of merchandising opportunity right now.
But with a good telling of the story, it could be awesome moment.

Imagine if the child ends up

killing the Mandalorian or the other remaining ones or something.

That would be awesome. My gut feeling is this series will be about 4/5 seasons, with the child being used in the next movie trilogy.
