The left-back market…

Does Amorim have a preference for a natural left footed player with better defensive skillset than the other side?

Shaw is out injured (shock) and will miss the Arsenal game.

Please for the love of god let INEOS have a left back lined up for January, there's no justification for not signing Fernandez back from Benfica or Rayan from Wolves if a deal can be done.

Kerkez for me, although you can argue he's more of a full-back than a wing-back. Theo Hernandez would be the dream but I'm not sure he'd come here.

Dorgu looks very unpolished with some traits suited to highlights. He goes to ground with last ditch tackles and has some mazy runs through the middle. He also appears stronger in attack on his right foot.
Raum looks unspectacular and doing a job. He doesnt look like a direct threat on the break.

McNeil interests me. He seems to be fast enough but also his vision is exceptional. He is also a former academy player.

Dwight McNeil could be a very good option as he has a wand of a left foot but also a great engine, great vision, good passing ability and a good age but also always gives 100% and is a lifetime United fan who was in our academy.

great idea there, would never have thoughtof this. but isnt he thriving in an advanced position nowadays

His versatility would be good, I could see him fitting in well in the right attacking position.

The only doubt i have is what amorim wants in both wing backs. In the left McNeil would be on his left foot putting in crosses. Would we benefit from his through balls there?

Either way i think he is very impressive, under the radar and being a united lad would add to the squad culture.

I think the safest option is to try and get someone like Ben Chilwell on loan until the Summer and then have a look for a long term option in the Summer. He should be fairly easy to get, is well versed as a LWB and should be fairly fresh as he has apparently been for since Summer and hasn't played due to not being a systematic fit.

For me, buying someone for big money in Jan is always very risky.

We should just activate the buy back clause for Carreras. For 16m it’s not much of a risk and I don’t think he would be worse than being a solid bench option. It’s also a plus that he can play LWB and Lcb

Could we possibly see Diego Leon come in plus someone like Theo Hernandez who is reported to be available at €50m due to his contract expiring in 2026?

That would seriously lock down the LWB position for the foreseeable.

Nothing safe about signing someone whose biggest problem is availability.

The wisest option is to take a punt on a youngster for a few months and see where that goes imo.

Only answers are Dimarco and Theo Hernandez. Two players that will completely boss that left wing and create havoc all game long.

I am a bit biased here but would love to see us sign Alt Nouri. He is the right age, has EPL experience and is likely going to be affordable given he will have 1 year left on his contact in 2025.

I could imagine Omar Berrada pushing for at least one player of Theo's profile.

Yeah he's one player we need to look at, if we're to get value for money. City will be looking at him again i think and possibly Liverpool (although they're rumoured to be signing Kerkez).

I can see Theo Hernandez head back to Real and Davies signing a new deal at Bayer.

Wasn't there rumours of Theology being involved in a rape case?

If Alphonso Davies is not coming on a free, Ait-Nouri or Patrick Dorgu would be the way to go.

Ait Nouri is the one for me, creating chances in a sh1t wolves team, he also has one of the highest dribble success rates in the prem.

I personally don't see INEOS sanctioning a Davies or Hernandez, both would want huge wages, they are trying to cost cut at every opportunity.

Does anyone know if Amorim has played with two wingbacks consequently in his first 11?

From him time at Sporting i thought i saw more of a tactic where there would play with 1 wingback (usually a winger) but alongside a fullback on the opposite side.

Definitely not. Last thing we need is another sicknote on massive wages for that position. Chilwell's earning a packet at Chelsea (£200k pw) so probably happy to ride out that contract until it ends in 2027.

Kerkez is the one I'd favour for the summer but left wing back looks like the biggest problem position in the squad currently and I don't think there would be any real chance of bringing that deal forward to January.

Depends really. If we were able to get him on a heavily subsidised loan deal I'd probably be up for it.

Chilwell was good in that position for Tuchel. Granted, he's declined a bit since then but he must still have something left to give at 27 years of age. I'd rather take a chance on that than persist with Dalot and Malacia until the summer.

Robinson has to be under consideration. Has been excellent for Fulham for a long time

If Liverpool are smart, they should replace Robertson with him

He's a good player, but after watching the game vs Ipswich today I don't think I'd want him. Slapped an Ipswich player in the face (which he should've gotten a red for), got in a near fight with someone else, and had to be practically dragged off the pitch after the match by staff.

Small sample, but sure doesn't seem like the right guy to add if we're looking to change the culture

Has to be. Was unreal today by all accounts. Only Saka and Salah have more assists than him in the Premier League this season

He's too old. Will be 28 by the start of next season; that's generally the start of the decline phase for non-CBs/GKs. Makes no sense to pay £50M plus sizeable wages for a player who'll be 30+ by the time the team is supposed to be good.

Would be a classic United signing though. We like overpaying for old guys. I'd take Kerkez over him easily due to age.

I dont think Alvaro is the right guy, people have bought into some hype without checking the reality.
If he came in he’d play a conservative role without much direct attacking threat.

Somebody like Miguel at Girona might work as alot of his highlights are carrying the ball, playing around the edge of the box and crossing. He looks like an attacker.

She was lying, CCTV footage showed the injury she got was from a different incident so the case was dropped. Another case of me too gone rogue.

I thought that’s the kind of player we’re looking for, a warrior and a passionate man. I’m sure we had seen so many times Roy Keane slapped someone and got in a near fight with someone else. We had seen Martinez almost got in a near fight with someone else too and he became fan favourite for showing the passion.

I think he did it with Pedro Porro and Nuno Mendes in his first season. Two wingbacks.

I’m not sure he’s that type. Looks more like he has a chip on his shoulder and plays games on the pitch. Likes to make a foul of the opposition kinda thing.

Kerkez looks more like what your suggesting.

Thanks mate. Apparently he has downed tools at AC though, so not the sort of player we'd want here.

Maybe. That's one possible interpretation, that Ait-Nouri was just showing the passion and fight we're looking for. I suppose it's hard to say definitively without knowing all the context (which we'll never get). On the video it looked rather petulant, so my read was there could be issues similar to Sancho where the player is out of order and hard to control. At least hopefully the club is doing their due diligence on attitude and the like.

Not too sure that is a massive issue for a six month loan. For me, Jan buys are always panic buys to some extent. For me loans always make more sense. For that reason, Chilwell for me is someone who can come in, do a job for the rest of the season and then can be sent back with a long term replacement sorted in Summer.
