Television The Last of Us - TV Series HBO | NO GAME REFERENCES OR SPOILERS | Receives 24 Emmy nominations

Id avoid game spoilers in this thread for anybody who hasnt played the game and are watching this as new content?

The TLOU community is pretty damn toxic isn’t it? I stumbled upon an advert for the show and the comments were tearing into Bella Ramsey.

It's not TLOU community that's toxic.

It's a strange group of Anti TLOU people who are toxic. They feel it's "Woke".

What's strange is anyone sane who doesn't like a piece of entertainment moves on in like a week or two. But these people just spout pure nonsense for years on end.

And most of it all came from the second game leaking and people spreading false info about the game. Most of them have never even played the second game and if they did they had decided they hated it before it started.

As usual a vocal minority just like to try dominate conversations.

The second game was incredible, anyone who is on the fence, just go play it and if you don't like it fine, but at least you'll know. It's one of the best games I've ever played.

Can't wait for this show. Especially since it's from the makers of Chernobyl. The atmosphere in that show will translate perfectly here.

The first game was much better for me. It was a masterpiece and probably the best game I’ve ever played.

I agree. I liked the 2nd one too despite its critics but the 1st one was better imo. I’ve played it on three different platforms and still enjoyed it each time. Just an incredible game.

i loved them both, think I might play them again whilst the TV show is airing then binge what them when the series has finished

100%, 1st game was a 10/10 for me, second game a 6.5 or 7 (thanks to some dodgy writing, not woke just like rushed or something).

you thought the second game was rushed? What do you mean rushed? interesting.
I personally liked it too btw. Thought it was fantastic esp the second half

Yeah, I would say the same. The second game had sections where it dragged and it seemed like the pacing was too much. Felt like I needed a break after awhile

Getting rave reviews.

I am super salty that a fecking video game adaptation has been seemingly made with more care and respect for the source material than some of the most popular fantasy books ever. And they got Mazin, who was behind one of the best shows ever in Chernobyl while those other shows were getting the interns and first timers.

Salty but highly anticipating getting into this. Do Joel and Ellie well and it can't fail.

I still havent really played the 2nd game. I loved the first and also liked the early twist, but like RDR 2 and the new God of War it just didnt grab me at all.
This looks awesome though, I love Pedro Pascal.

The first is (in numbers generated by 10 secs of thought) 7 in gameplay, 10 for characters and story execution, while the second is a 9 for gameplay and a 7.5-8 in character and story. I love the first but the second is also a great game in its own way.

I'm more optimistic as the reviews come in, its been a bad year for seeing my fave media on screen (HotD aside) and I'm still having willow nightmares so I'm praying for this to hit and get 2023 off to a good start.

I think it's genuinely going to be great (so far there are only two negative reviews, and one of those is Slant Magazine which always seems to lowball/negatively review stuff), but I expect the gaming community will probably find a lot to moan about.

For me, it's the most anticipated show in years.

I thought gameplay was excellent but plot points felt rushed, like "we need to make x happen" but instead of hitting it in a natural way like the first game they'd have Tommy for example do something stupid or someone get bonked on the head and wake up where they need to be etc... It all felt written like a video game in comparsion to the first one where everything felt organic in how it played out. People behaved out of character so things could happen, too much coincidence etc..

I mean as games go I probably score it harsher than I should because its predecessor is so good. Kinda like how FF7 is great till you put it beside FF6
OK gotcha, that makes sense.I do think the first half wasnt as strong as the second half of the game.

I do wonder if the show will make changes compared to the game especially the second one. And whether they expand things (to make the show last longer)
Sorta like TWD did.

For what its worth if its a massive success and they end it where the games end instead of money grabbing my respect for them will be higher. It can't be easy to put story over profit.

Why so cynical. There's loads of shows that have ended when the creators felt they needed to end, even if the higher ups would have preferred more seasons.

Here's what Mazin himself said -

Experience.

I thought this was dropping simultaneously worldwide, but the official trailer (on YouTube) shows the 15th, but HBO in Spain is showing the 16th. Is it just because of time zone differences? And if so, please could someone who knows put at what time does it actually drop (UK or Spain)?

"meaning we folks in the UK need to wait until the next day, Monday 16 January 2023, where the show will first be available at 2am for the super keen!", for those that also want to know. 3am for me, ain't so bad.

I almost admire Willow, I think all involved know its shit and are having fun with it, making their characters ever more unlikable (Kit is an appallingly awful person) and the story is like they drew the next plot point out of a hat with no fecks given to how it would connect to the previous scene.

I'll be up at 1am (6.5hrs from now) for the tennis, then this halfway through. Pretty pissed it's an episode a week from a sleep POV - especially when media got the lot for review purposes - but I can't fecking wait.

Probably in my top 5 games of all time. Cannot wait to dig into this. I'm a sucker for anything apocalyptic but the reviews this is getting holy shit

It's fecking great, ties to the game but new scenes here and there. Can't believe they're drip-feeding the episodes.

All the characters are solid so far, too.

How Uncharted turned out to be a shitshow!

I liked that to be honest. And the end shot ties perfectly with that part of the game as well.
Also what a fecking great track to end the episode with. What was really great about this episode is it just dispels all the worries people had about the casting of Joel and Ellie - I think Bella Ramsay is great and their chemistry is pretty instant.

Yes, I was wondering how they'd come across too, but to be fair she especially looked pretty great in the trailer. Looks like I'm getting up at 3am on Mondays for the next couple of months.

Put me right off my mushroom soup.

Not played either of the two games.. Just watched episode 1 and I liked it.

First Sarah looked so familiar. I thought she was definitely related to someone famous, thought maybe Zendaya sister or cousin had to Google and turns out she’s Thandie Newton’s daughter.

Loved the pacing of the episode. The acting was also great. You can see how the relationship will develop and evolve.

Quite enjoyed that. The drawn out build up to the chaos at the beginning was great. Longer than the first game intro. Casting seems good as well for Ellie and Joel.

It was good, maybe very good. Pedro Pascal is really coming into his own.

Was it just me or did the first act feel like HBO doing a Telltale zombie game intro? Not that that’s not a good thing, it’s actually a very good one.

Yeh I enjoyed that alot, really setting things up well. Just disappointed I couldn't watch the next two episodes like they can in the US with hbo max, the bastards.

Made me feel optimistic about another video game adaption that's coming out in the future too, and my favourite games of all time, Fallout.

Excellent. The best video game adaptation I've seen so far. Of course it's just one chapter but it's very, very promising.

The music, the scenario, the acting. Everything was on point. Went to sleep at 1 AM waking up at 5, but it was worth it.
