The Fourth RedCafe Sheep Draft

I wanted to use worldfootball.net but it was in metric system (<170 or >191), which apparently the GameMaster is allergic to.

Hehe.

Well, it doesn't really matter as long as there's a standard. Wiki is generally shite but as a standard for a criterion like this, I suppose it does as well as any other (would have been different for an actual football related stat, like caps or whathaveya).

Like I said, though, Wiki lacks info on quite a few players (especially older ones, unsurprisingly). Generally, for older players, I suspect that other sites (which do list height) use less than scientific sources: Some of 'em have probably just guessed the player's height roughly, based on footage.

its very difficult that someone will get 4 sheeps, think it would be smart to implement a rule that you have to field at least one sheep unless you dont have any in the squad.

@antohan would you be able to take a look at the convo please as I've got a question that needs answering before I can make my pick

Yeah no point in a sheep draft if you can leave all of them on the bench

EDIT: Then again we don't know the criteria so there could be rounds were lots of sheep are going to happen meaning we could end up with loads.

A MAXIMUM of 14. You will have been very lucky to get 14 players, let me tell you..

You are assuming you are in full control of the other picks.

Shithead on you

Cmon people, throw some shitheads around.

Anto doesn't like me it seems :(

Thus the basic currently existing countries. West Germany doesn't exist.
West Germany never officially existed. It was always the Federal Republic of Germany after the war and it still is the same now, no matter what it's called in common tongue. The unification wasnt a process of creating a new country, it was just East Germany joining the Federal Republic of Germany, accepting the already existing laws, currency and name.

The official unification contract between the two countries always talks about the accession of East Germany. Here's an English translation:

Article 1
Länder
(1) Upon the accession of the German Democratic Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany in accordance with Article 23 of the Basic Law taking effect on 3 October 1990 the Länder of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia shall become Länder of the Federal Republic of Germany. [ . . . ]
(2) The 23 boroughs of Berlin shall form Land Berlin.

It's a bit like saying the USA were a different country before Hawaii became part of it. Sounds stupid, in my opinion, but I've argued the case before.

Weren't they, in a way? I mean what is America without Hawaiian shirts, aloha and five-o?

This is a football forum mate. AFAIC countries are those recognised by FIFA, everything else is geopolitical bollocks.

People could carry on about kingdoms, statelets, occupation, etc. otherwise.

Yeah, but the same applies to how FIFA recognises the German nationalteam and its history. Footballers from East Germany were simply allowed to play for the German nationalteam after a certain date while the East German nationalteam was dissolved. Fair enough, if you want to treat it differently, but it doesn't make any sense to me.

That being said, I'm looking forward to Joga building a team around Lothar. So I'm not really bothered by him missing out on one of the older players.

Aye, but the whole point - precisely in a football/draft context - is that the FA remains the same throughout the geopolitical changes. So, while Matthäus played for both "West Germany" and "Germany", he nevertheless represented the same national team/federation.

Balu is right: "West Germany" and "Germany" aren't two different football teams.

Trying so hard to stay awake to see these results. But I'm definitely beginning to struggle!

That's FIFA politics. They should have had you resetting the trophy count. Then you would only have as many WCs as England :p

Looks like pure and simple straightforward tactics of picking the most obvious have worked again
Happy with my choice too though
