The First Redcafe Sheep Draft

Just wondering but is it possible for people to do this @AldoPaine18 :

Say someone had Henry.
Someone picks Makelele to pass the B criteria as both played together for France (I think).

Manager tactically fail at giving a player to match criteria A for the first pick.

So round result for this guy is
PASS (Makelele) and FAIL (tactical pick to lose guy).

In second round of picking can the manager pass criteria A now by picking a player that could pass criteria A with Makelele? Now he's in the team and all.

So 2nd pick here can be Cech.

Do you get me?

No, that's not possible. You can only use the players you had at the start of Round 6 to link A and B.

Yes it is absurd. Normally you take an AM so that he can deputize in your absence. Here it seems to drag it down over whose turn it is and what not.

New draft rule, only assistant maangers in your own time zone.

Apart from KM because he has been bad ass and I've rarely had to press ahead without consulting him.

You guys will be waiting for nm eitherway, give us thirty min. The picks will be in. Its hard to satisfy the tournament criteria when the only good nation you have is argentina.

So if you try and pair up two players with Péle and Maradona in the first round and fail with both, you can't try and pair up two players with Cruyff and Platini in the next round? The first pair of players are the consistent reference point for this round?

No.

In the end you need to get a player who was a club teammate and another who was a teammate for the NT for two player you already had in your team before the round started.

So, the only remark is that if you got one player, say A, and failed B you cannot use A to find a link and pick B in the next two picks.

In your question, yes you can change the player to find a link in the next two picks as long as he was in your team before the round started.

Well I knew it, the only normal player I could take from my players' NTs has been taken. feck off @sullydnl :(

Back to researching..

Thanks feck I dropped all that game theory stuff. An obvious pick if there ever was one, and I don't think the block was deliberate.

Shouldn't be possible as everyone would be trying to guess options for their rivals based on info avaiable, the player who passed is not available info to anyone but said manager.

Agreed. Surely there would have been sufficient discussion already on team/theme/sort of players you want that either can make a call.

Well yeah but I didn't get plenty of other options, and you'll realize it when you see who I ended up picking.

Try playing with Denmark without Schmeichel, Czech without Cech, Greece, Chile without Vidal and Croatia..

I'd say Essien, Makelele and Kaka peaked at a time when football was all about specialists. For every playmaker there was a workhorse to give him the freedom to be creative. That's the exact opposite of pressing football, where you need allrounders with great workrate, everyone needs to be able to do everything at a certain level and the quick transition replaces the creativity. In theory, you maybe could say that those 3 would become different players if their career started today. But if we look at how they played during the peak of their careers, playing them in a high pressure defense system seems wrong to me.
I agree with this. In fairness to Essien he was an all-rounder and one of the best I've ever seen at pressing and ball recovery at his peak.

Actually, it's the ones in different timezones that would be particularly handy, just strange that it works the complete wrong way around.

New draft rule: only AMs who can make decisions on their own, and managers who can make decisions without consulting their AMs. :p

Sure, but it was Makelele, Essien and AN other. AN other's contribution was quite significant to that team and very different to what Kaka would offer.

I meant you were unlucky, it was obvious you had no other choice and it made no sense to go for a block.

The thought that I had a guaranteed keeper here is likely to haunt me in the next couple of rounds

I found a player that I wish I'd take over A.Sanchez... God... A little more patience and my team would've been much better :S

In the two continents bit? You "found" HIM?
Maybe so. Not sure who HIM is but I might've... I guess he'll be taken at this round... And he'll be perfect in my team. Seriously a tournament-changing lack of research by me.. I actually rate Sanchez really highly but not at this bloke's level, no doubt about that.

Sounds like the one I'm thinking about.

Yeah, rpit, MJJ, NM and Sully, don't go anywhere if possible, you might have to pick again.
