The First Redcafe Sheep Draft

The long wait is truly agonising. I find myself coming back every 30 minutes or so. :(

There's truckloads of options then really and it boils down to taste. It's the Europeans that surprised me and one standout one I 100% expected someone to pick.

In which case, it still flabbergasts me that a certain two who always seem to be picked usually aren't taken.

Twelfth man? Not sure if you mean ensuring no sheep play or the importance of the referee/voters during the games.

You nailed it with twelfth - and any further hints would just obscure the matter, I think. I was referring to the importance of the twelfth man. The substitute. Which will be a sheep for some. For others, however, he could be more than that. I noticed in the last draft (the WC one) that hardly anyone actually used their sub in their tactics. You did, unless I'm mistaken - and I think I might avail myself of the same possibility. We have twelve players at our disposal. No sense in not using them - if they are any good, that is.

And got punished for "completely changing" the side with a single sub.

This criteria is lavely

I keep saying "I'm very interested for this round" after every criteria is announced, but this is the most interesting yet!

Haven't really made an effort to think of players yet, so we shall see

Aye - but that is surely...bollocks: What's the sense in having a 12th man if you can't use him? I liked your approach back then. Of course the game changes - and as a virtual manager of a virtual football team, surely your task is to both affect and to deal with these changes. If the 12th man is just nominal - just another name in the bag, to be weighed against another name in the bag before the match begins, the very concept of a sub might as well be scrapped.

Best question so far, perfectly timed as well in terms of having enough players... but not that many that it is too easy, and allows you to look at any position.

Brilliant IMO, just what I needed as well! If those two and the other contender had been eligible but I had to pick one it would have fried my brain.

I never do that, only consider the subs relative to how the manager may use them, and ignore them if they are unused.

Yes - but the question is to what extent they are indeed ignored. And to what extent it is regarded almost as cheating if they're used. See the thing? You could in theory use a 12 man team to the fullest - pick 'em with the plan in mind that you're going to use them all. Which would be dramatically different to someone whose "sub" is just someone who didn't make the grade, who was a second choice in whatever position he might play in.

I try not to have those, pains me to have someone like Fabregas as a waterboy. I did once! Played a crucial role, mind, fed Gio's men so much pizza they couldn't get going at all.

Baggio is quite handy, isn't he? Not just as a player but his whoring around big clubs in the 90s must be paying dividends. Well, could ;)

:D I thought you were going for a dirty Harry reference...

Offering a deal? Harry's face on Del Boy? And you thought about Clint Eastwood? WOW!

Yup, Baggio is useful. He was too good to pass, but downside is heavy tinkering with rest of picks. Still a gamble with him .

Avoiding the point, I see. Mmmm. Should I stay or should I go?

Really? With the Batigol reference earlier I thought you were quite clearly going with a 4-4-2 diamond or basically a narrow formation with a front two of Sheva-someone and Rui Costa pulling strings from a deeper role. And Baggio is pretty good for that role, better than most. You having Alonso also pointed to something similar as you would have him dictate the game from midfield with two proper workhorses doing the rest of the work.

Updated my posts on the first page.

The list of teams and Banned players will stay on THIS post. It is up to date.

The summaries of rounds are in the next post, or here.

Whoever is reading this, if you have posts on the first page before these posts, if possible delete them so that it is easier for you and everyone to read the summary. Thanks.

Pretty much. A proper DM workhorse, a defensive playmaker, a CM workhorse, a trequartista who can operate deeper, a advanced trequartista and a proper centre forward.

See how it all flows together!

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how others play out. If I can get the players I want, I'd go for a flat 4-man midfield with Gullit supporting a target man... Imagine getting van Basten in the last round
