Cost them the equaliser vs Holland too, he's an absolute clown and always has been.

Yeah, they played well, but France weren't in the game at all until that penalty, it was more like a team that just couldn't wait for it to be over. If Otamendi wasn't a total idiot, it probably fisnishes 2-0 and we'd most likely be saying France didn't show up, for 79 mins it was the most lifeless showing I've seen from a team in a final in a long long time.

He was like that with City in the CL too. Always being rash and jumping in trying to get the ball when it’s near impossible. Miscontroling and giving it straight to opponents, I remember he did that at Anfield. He’s utterly brainless at times and while his team could have won 2-0 in 90 he made it so much harder for them by gifting them a freebie which proved to be the injection of energy and belief that France needed. What a mug.

Don't know if that had anything to do with the subs. Argentina was exhausted and France still needed a penalty out of nowhere and a world class finish to get into the game. If this was a FIFA 23 match, I would have been sure it was scripted, the way everything was going France's way.

Then they had roughly 15 minutes in which they overran Argentina just to be on the backfoot once again.
Nah, Deschamps subs was working. Thuram agility and size worked much better than Giroud. I thought Camavinga sub was a turning point. He's brilliant against Messi, can match Argentina midfield physicality well and have the skill to make forward plays.

No he didn’t, first goal or was Licha, second goal it was Pezzella’s foul and then Enzo loses his man.

Well they were cheering Morocco in Gaza because they believed in the same made up man in the sky as them.

I don't think it is all about the made up guy in the sky.

People in Gaza are trapped in a prison camp and nobody gives a sh**t. When the Moroccan players try to remind the world of that, it makes sense that the success of that team would then mean something to them.

Second goal was Messi losing the ball naively to Coman, and then France plays it very quick. Hard to blame the defenders for it.

Edit: Just relised you were talking about the Netherlands game.

Congrats by the way. You more than deserved it!!

I thought Camavinga should have entered to play in the midfield (for Rabiot or Tchouameni) and he could have kept Theo on the left.

What hasn’t been mentioned is Deschamps’ amazing management of the game. When he subbed out Griezmann, I thought France was waving a white flag. Instead, his substitution helped even the score up. France had its chances in extra time and Lloris was fantastic.

Huh? Dechamps had an absolute mare today and loris was beyond shocking in that PK shootout

Most overrated player ever?
Have you read how some people overrate him here? One guy even dared to compare him to Pele! People have said he is better than M’Bappe. Today he didn’t do anything aside from fouling Di María which in turn leads to Messi’s first goal.

Still the much better team today overall

Correct. Anything other than an Argentina win last night would have been a travesty, a repeat of Croatia-Brazil dare I say, though I would have personally preferred if France won last night. France had their moments and struck twice brilliantly in quick succession but it was all Argentina before as well as after.

Arg lost to Saudi.
France lost to Tunisia.
Portugal lost to Korea and Morocco.
Germany lost to Japan.
Wales lost to Iran.
Brazil lost too

I don't think we would have scored two goals to force extra time like France did, also got my doubts we find that equaliser in extra time either.

Not every team has Kylian Mbappe though, the only player you'd probably want those 2 chances to fall to other than Mbappe are Haaland or Messi.

The one Mbappe scored was a right footer though so probably just Haaland.

Thing is that goal that Mbappe scored (the one from open play btw) was a lazy long ball but the 98 year old defenders of Argentina had no legs to even compete to get it.

Full credit to France, I felt France would win it, even 2-0 down in the 70th minute I felt France would still come back. Every stage of the tournament they were shit but found a goal because of the quality they had.

true. I thought Rabiot was really underwhelming. But I think Camavinga did go forward and spent time in midfield anyway. Theo wasn't good last night either

Better team yes, much better, no.

Much deserved win, I might add.
If you look at the 1st 72 mins Arg were far better, it’s not even close and overall with 10 shots on target vs 5 they were much better there too. They had the majority of possession too but that doesn’t mean anything, see Spain ;)

I bet this narrative the BBC are pushing that Brazil were on for Argentina to win would be laughed off as complete bollocks by 99.9% of Brazilians.

Ronaldo Nazario said the same thing, to be honest. I doubt that the majority were but there seem to be a lot of Brazilians who were cheering Argentina, if only to see Messi get his moment.

The penalty France got shouldn't even have happened. I was genuinely unsettled after they gave Argentina that first penalty because I wanted Messi to win fair and square but the everything seemed even in the end

Credit to France's strength in depth too. The players they brought on - Coman, Thuram and Muani (?) were just too strong and quick for Argentina. Keeping in mind the players who aren't fit, I find their depth astonishing. Imaging having those many injuries and your subs being players your WC final opponents just can't handle. Of course it helps to play against Argentina 's backing which is short and slow as snails and has the might Otamendia in it.

Why?

Funny thing is the shot was clearly going way over the top. But Argentina sometimes defend like absolute madmen. Calmer heads and this would have been a simple win. But we'd have been robbed of an all time great match!

I think it’s suggesting the French defender that’s 1st to the corner ball handles it but it looked like he, or the Argentine player on him headed it, out of the box to the other French player.

He did head it. This is like the random tweets claiming conspiracy due to the Argentina 3rd goal being offside.

I thought the refs / officials did a very good job.

In the video I posted looks like there was a handball that gave the ball to Mbappe.

Argentina defends like a ticking time bomb

Camavinga too. Someone said they are a international version of Madrid and you can see why. No matter how badly they get outplayed it's impossible to shut them down for 90 minutes.

The likes of Rabiot, Dembele, Kounde and Theo cost France the game in the first half. Had those players turned up the bench players would have likely have won the game in the end.

Agreed. If he’d handled it we’d have seen lots of protests from the Arg players.
Yeah. Overall the ref and his team did a good job.

Congrats to Argentina!

As I said earlier, my favorite NT after Croatia, so I'm really happy they won.

As for the goat debate this probably settles it. :D

As for us, in the last 14 world cup matches we lost just 2 games, both against world champions. 3rd in the world.

The game, until 70th minute French were nowhere to be seen then they scored 2. It was strange Scaloni made just one sub until 90th, that could have cost them, they could barely walk out there. French gave they all, Mbappe hattrick, but it wasnt meant to be.

Coman as well.

My bad, I got.mixed up. Was it after the second goal he got a yellow for doing something stupid?
