The Fifth Redcafe Sheep Draft QF - harms vs. idmanager

Who would win in the following draft game with all players at their peak?

I think someone won the draft with Charles as a center back early on. Today he would've crashed out in the first round  How the opinions change

*at least he had made it to an all-time draft XI

He lost the final but was a rock for @Cutch in that draft.

Bear in mind that XI wasn't a Best XI attempt but a recognition to best performers for the team getting furthest. E.g. Cutch had Baresi, but he had a first round loss, second round loss and final loss so you could hardly put him in the tourno XI after winning a single game, while Charles was his man all the way (rightly or not).

Yeah, I understand that

Don't think that I agree in general, although this game proves me wrong. Let's see how he does in the long run though.

I actually voted for you and can say he wasn't in any way decisive. The only consideration was he would work well counter-attacking and spraying balls but if you stuck Falcao there I would have strongly preferred it.

Similar to Enigma's game, I saw a defence that could only realistically defend deep paired with an uber-attacking front four and therefore tonnes of space (and the players) to successfully execute a counter-attacking strategy.

I played 4-3-3

Nothing irritates me more than seeing Charles as CB.. Maybe Stoichkov on the right, but that's it.

I know, but the problem was essentially the same. Deep defence and excessive attacking impetus creates lots of space between the lines to exploit.

There's no way I see Vidal and Ballack anywhere near the midfield with your fullbacks systematically providing crosses. That's the way I saw it panning out all things considered: they would attack them, I expected you to score from that, but I expected Ronaldo and Eusebio to score more on the break.

He did play on the right often enough though. He clearly favoured the left, but still, it's nowhere near as odd as Giggs playing right against Bayern.

I didn't play deep defensive line either. I'll hold you personally responsible for my loss then.

He was certainly more two footed than Giggs, but his best work came from the left. Plays to his best qualities as well. He was great crosser of the ball from that side. Put him on the left and it's a bit like Figo playing on the left. You take away some major assets from his game..

I know, scaled tiers for defending, etc. As said, I love Godín to bits, but he has consistently proven himself in deep sitting defences. Whenever we are needing a goal and he goes a bit gung ho taking the ball out of defence I shit my pants several times. Damned if you do or don't sit deep. You just can't have that disconnect between attacking style and the characteristics of your defenders, it's a massive no-no for me.

Think Coates. He was voted the revelation in the 2011 Copa América (deep sitting) and turned into an absolute calamity the moment he moved to the EPL.

Wasn't he always shit? Thought he was one of those cases - one good tourno ala Kleberson and soon was found out when he moved to Pool.

No, was great for 3-4 years but in slow-paced environments and relative underdog tactics.

In fact, he wasn't absolutely dire in the PL. Has had a few stints and when his team play to his strengths he performs well. Try play on the frontfoot and he instantly becomes a problem.

Godín is obviously not as limited and his leadership always made him step up/out but in the last couple of years (non peak, I know) he has been brutally exposed in a similar way.

Usually I'd say congrats, but since I feel its an undeserved victory, good luck with the rest of the draft. Cheers.

I can understand your arguments, but I genuinely believe that I have a good chance of outlasting my opponent. idmanager definitely has an edge in terms of individual quality, but it's not always that that decides a game.

Regarding the wings — it's not only Garrincha and Maradona, it's also Dzajic — three players that always demanded the ball. It would work, of course, but I don't think it would've fully maximised their potential.

@harms , my apologies for this post the other day.
Posted it while I was pissed and it was completely in bad taste and not in the spirit of drafting.
Thanks for being the sensible one and ignoring it. Cheers.
Oh and congrats on winning the game :)
