The heats' are now well underway.

And we have some news, of a sort.

Asafa Powell is reported to have been concerned of straining stomach muscles after his race. This from a contact taht the BBC are using.

COuld be mind games, could be getting an excuse in early, could be genuine, either way it is one to follow.

From the PoV of the spectacle, you'd like to see "The Big 3" fully fit and it merely be a test of skill and strength, both mental and physcial.

I don't know, I really have no clue as to who is good when it comes to athletics. I like watching it, but I don't know who anyone is. It's just that Colin Jackson was prattling on about the Jamaican dominance.

That'll teach me for listening to a Welshman.

He could be right, in fact Usain Bolt has a real chacne of doing the 100m & 200m double.

I wouldn't bet against Obikwelu taking a bronze. Gay's going to need to be at his best, and from the looks of it, he's nowhere near it at the moment.

Bolt JOGGED the last 30 meters and ran 9.92 in round 2.

Tyson Gay hasn't looked that impressive so far.

can't believe he jogged the last 40 meters and still did sub-10sec....

Incredible

6 ft 5 and almost walks over the finish line under 10s.

Incredible stuff there, has to be one of the most anticipated races this one. Could have three guys running sub 9.8, a world record might be needed to win this one.

I wonder how many times Bolt was tested by the Jamacan doping athorities last winter?

For me there is no 100m this Olympics. I refuse the accept the world record.

9.68
but he had massive favourable wind apparently

How come seasoned pros like Lewis or Burrel and other clean kids of Santa Monica track club cannot crack the 9.8 barrier whilst breaking the 100M has become a joke these days?

Is is some kinda development in the DNA or some thing creepy like sponsors calling the shot and made steriod abuse official behind the scenes?

Its also clear IAAF would always wipe things under the carpet as far streiod consumption is concerned

It's funny no one comes close to 19.32 in the 200 though, be surprised if anyone go below 19.6 here, in fact I would be shocked

Well 100M is officially the most marketable in terms of staking their claim as the fastest in the world. So records are tumbling in that discipline.

That was a ridiculosly fast time set by Johnson though wasn't it? His 43.18 in the 400m is pretty incredible as well but I think that will be broken before the 200m one.

Party it was attributed to his short strides.

I can remember when Bailey broke the 100M WC 9.83, Johnson challenged him for a 150M sprint to square it off.

But it was Johnson who limped out in the middle.

If human beings have developed to break the 9.7 mark they should also break the 19.2 barrier

Not really, why do you say that?

Either Johnson was an insane athelete or this 19.32 must have been done on drugs.

How does it make sense when he runs 19.3 for 200, thus making him the fastest ever 100m runner. (9.66 for each 100 meters:wenger:)

Can someone explain??

Ummm you start form 0.0 m/s; it's a pure sprint, of course his 2nd hundred was much faster than his first, he also wore shoes of gold. His 200 time is the most impressive feat in track I've ever seen I almost shat myself when I saw the time

They really can't be compared. You'd expect a 200m athlete to gain a lot more speed towards the end of the race, compared to what a 100m runner would achieve, due to I presume having more time to accelerate.

Might be talking shit here, but I presume the first 100 in a 200m race isn't as quick as in an actual 100m race.

Of course, if you drive a car from 0-50 mph, the first 100 meters are inherently slower than the second hundred meters
