The F1 Thread 2015 Season

I know that Red Bull have a shite engine, but saying they are going to pull out of F1 , just sounds like they have thrown their toys out of the pram.
Could they of not worked with Renault to make the engine good?

If it happened then its another big manufacturer back in the sport and that can only be good. Red Bull would still get massive exposure by sponsoring the team anyway and this is probably the only route they can go down to get their own engine supply and not be a customer team.

If they ran the Ferrari engine for a couple of years to get it all in order that would be a very sensible approach too. Just rumours but this one probably has a decent chance of happening.

It would be better if Renault and VW got their own custom teams than what the current situation is. We could have Ferarri, McLaren, Mercedes, VW and Renault.

vw=auto union. long tradition in F1
Actually, Auto Union = Audi. VW bought Auto Union in the 60's long after they took part in Formel 1 in the 30's. Audi kept the Auto Union logo with the four rings after the name changes which was already present on the racing cars in the 30's, so it would be pretty cool to see it again:

Struggling to switch the tyres on seemingly, still expect them to have pace in their pocket even if they are saying otherwise.

This looks like it could be a great quali session, hopefully this hasn't jinxed it.

It would be stupid if Winterkorn decides to put VW on the Formel 1 cars. It really has to be Audi in my opinion.

i'd love it. i think F1 needs more mfgs and more teams. what 3 engines and a few teams. pretty shit really. is it a dying sport?

Yeah no one's beating Vettel to pole. Mercedes looking at the third row at best.

Be a decent change for the race tomorrow, Merc's will probably still have decent race pace.

So what's up with the Mercs? Is it only issues on short runs or will they struggle in the race as well.

So... I don't understand does this basically confirm red bull have the best chassis? they are as fast as the other teams with a far inferior engine. On the basis of this Ferrari shouldn't give Red Bull their engine.

Could be a few things, worrying thing for Merc is they have to cool the brakes ASAP after a lap, think tyre pressures, temperature and brakes have them far from the optimum setup for themselves. Sensational stuff from Vettel, worst weekend possible really for Rosberg, one of the few times other teams can mix it with Mercedes and Mercedes are nowhere.

It's not a power track and all the Merc cars are a bit down on where they usually are, so that indicates that possibly it's a heat thing or a traction thing, probably both.

Must be heat because Merc were very quick in Monaco and Hungary.

Theirs and Ferrari's definitely the top ones

Just saw the replay of today's qualifying and I swear I saw Schumacher in Vettel today. First, that last crazy-fast lap was like watching Schumi, and later he even physically reminded me of him. I am not into F1 in last few years but that brought nice memories back.

Assuming this Ferrari advantage is a one-off then it wouldn't be the worst place for him to DNF, he'd probably only lose 10 points to Rosberg.
