The F1 Thread 2015 Season

Bit harsh this interview with Lewis. Not his fault.

Williams ran an entire stint length with an odd tyre on and got away with a minor punishment, I'd class that as a much bigger technical infringement than .3 PSI in a tyre.

So anyway, racing and stuff; Kimi had a great race to make it up to 5th after whatever happened at the start.

Feel for Button and Alonso now. When I used to race in a semi-serious online league I had to do a season with an underpowered car and obviously its not even comparable but there is nothing more depressing than sweating your bollocks off for 70 laps knowing the best you can do is not finish last and just generally annoy people until they get past on the straight bits.

Get your shit together Honda.

what was that whatever? update yet?
Only speculation of a 'false neutral' I think Brundle called it, essentially the cogs can clash with each other and not actually select a gear but the dash will shown it being in first.

Ferrari (amongst others) run a filter on their dash screens so that the on board camera can't see the readings so we don't know what was shown on his dash.

So it's acceptable to piss about with tyre pressures, the other teams will go mad.

I'd imagine its more like they will heavily review the process of checking them, Mercedes must have had a pretty good case to have gotten away with it, FIA usually just go full force.

Having heard from the Technical Delegate, the Team Representatives and the Pirelli Team Tyre engineer, the Stewards have determined that the pressure in the tyres concerned were at the minimum start pressure recommended by Pirelli when they were fitted to the car. In making this determination regarding the pressures, the Stewards noted that the tyre warming blankets had been disconnected from their power source, as is normal procedure, and the tyres were significantly below the maximum permitted tyre blanket temperature at the time of the FIA’s measurement on the grid, and at significantly different temperatures from other cars measured on the grid. Further, the Stewards are satisfied that the team followed the currently specified procedure, supervised by the Tyre Manufacturer, for the safe operation of the tyres. Therefore the Stewards decide to take no further action. Nevertheless, the Stewards recommend that the Tyre Manufacturer and the FIA hold further meetings to provide clear guidance to the teams on measurement protocols.

So there you go, they didn't even take the measurements under the same conditions on all cars.

Very surprised there was no punishment of some sort after all that. Post-race was more interesting than the actual race though, even if that ended up anti-climatic too. Definitely gonna be a shit-storm from some of the other teams now though.

Bit of an anti-climax.

watching the race highlights now and with the Hammertime comments they knew something was coming and thought they were getting a penalty.
I did say goo that no further action was taken , but know I am no so sure, Mercedes knew what they were doing and got wind of something coming their way, taking no action sends out the wrong messages, the rules are there and there for reasons.

It's odd though. You'd think it would be in the FIA's interest to disqualify Ham to liven up the title race, looking at it cynically.

Mercedes have excellent tyre warmup, so they likely build the correct temp up on the formation lap.

The FIA are obviously quite happy with the explanation given that the temperature of the tyre was lower than all other cars when the reading was taken therefore the pressures would be low. Soon as they get temp into the tyre its totally legal and its the process of when, where and how they check these new minimum pressures thats the issue. They admitted as much when they say:
Nevertheless, the Stewards recommend that the Tyre Manufacturer and the FIA hold further meetings to provide clear guidance to the teams on measurement protocols.

That's basically an admission that "hey, we didn't actually state when we would check the minimums but we will in the future", be that as the cars leaves the garage, on the grid or whatever.
