The F1 Thread 2015 Season

Again Williams should have tried something different with a split strategy.

It's no one's fault it's just pure luck of when it started raining and where he was
It's not all luck though, he could have come in a lap earlier like his team mate and others did. Obviously it's incredibly tricky to call but he didn't get screwed.

Eh?! Of course it's luck!! Everyone thought Hamilton had switched too soon and then 10 seconds later it starts pissing down.

There you have everything back to normal for Merc, everything sucked for Williams, then both a huge win and just shit luck for Ferrari

There's some judgement that goes into it though. Like how Jenson's made several great calls over the years, they weren't all flukes. And Rosberg would have been fourth if it didn't rain anyway so it evens out.

Fair fecks to Lewis. An immovable object these past 12 months.

Good win from Lewis, in a sense the rain was fortunately for Williams cos it saved the asses of those who chose not to pit one of their cars early when they were leading in the dry. Anyone bar the team could see that Mercedes would pit early and take over the lead.

Kinda wanted one of the Williams' to get the victory after the start. Not pitting Bottas when he was all over the back of Massa and letting Mercedes getting the undercut was their downfall. Still, a good race to watch and ultimately happy for Hamilton winning his home race and extending his lead a little.

Great timing from Lewis for the pit stop which led him to victory.

Interesting and entertaining race I thought. A big improvement on how things were going recently.

What is the longest sequence of races in which both drivers from a team have ended up on the podium? That's 9 already this season. Surely this is already some kind of record.

I can see Mercedes going through the whole season without their drivers leaving the rostrum.

It's probably a record for consecutive races yeah, I think last years car only did 5 in a row.

I think last year the Merc had atleast 1 driver on the podium at every race, it's actually still on they could have both on every podium this year with half a season gone

Domination.

I think that was perfect by Hamilton, all bar the start today. Williams need to grow a pair and need to start making proper calls for their team rather than their current cautious approach.

Without looking I'm gonna guess Ferrari 2002 probably have the record with Schumacher and Barrichello.

I decided to check since I was bored. Rubens had a quite inconsistent season and had a lot of reliability issues (obviously Schumacher didn't because that's how things worked). Schumacher never left the podium that season. But their longest sequence of being on the podium together was 5. When they got five 1-2s at the end of the season.

Even in 2004 they managed 'only' a string of 5 consecutive podium finishes between the two of them.

The dominant McLaren of 88 only had 4 consecutive too, it's a pretty incredible record actually.

Nine races. Eight wins. Six 1-2s. Eighteen podium finishes. Nine pole positions.

Even Ferrari in their pomp could only dream of domination like this.

Ferrari had 5 years of domination though. I find it more impressive.

Interesting, I guess nostalgia does things to you. Good research. For some reason I find Merc domination less boring than Red Bull or Ferrari's. Vettel and Schumacher were undisputed number 1's, whereas Rosberg is making a decent fist of it

Yeah its pretty silly to call it just plain lucky, it's not like he pulled into the pits and then it just pissed down. He thought the track was ready for inters, he gambled on doing his stop immediately because he was struggling on the prime in the damp, just the right call at the right moment. Dudes been on the end of so many bad pitstop calls in his career, can't people just let him have one?

Hamilton - Luck plays a part but it was simply a good call as he was clearly reacting to the conditions. Seb made the same call as well. It can't just be luck otherwise you'd argue Kimi was just unlucky. I have to admit I genuinely thought Monaco all over again.

Dominant Mercs - The thing that has compounded the domination is that two of the big teams (big by budget) are nowhere to be seen because of their engine provider. Drawing comparisons to history shows it is quite impressive but surely modern F1 cars are more reliable. They've done amazingly well though, the whole outfit from the drivers, team bosses, aero, and engine. You could only fault their strategy work at times but they are so quick it doesn't matter.

Anyone gonna get the f1 2015 ps4 game? it looks like its gonna be pretty good, ordered it today

Last one I had was 2012 so I'd be tempted.

I played the shit out of 2010 with my mates online. Never lost a single race at Spa, must've won there over 100 times online. 2011 came along and it was nowhere near as good and noone else bought it then 2012 was more like 2010 but still noone bought it so I need people to play it with.
