The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Before the race when they mentioned it might rain, Eddie said, I hope not, I want a clean hard dry race

Hamilton is in another league so I don't think it matter who's no1 at Mercedes.

TBF Alonso is way ahead of Massa and Vettel is much better than Webber, Hamilton and Rosberg are closer but the money Mercedes are throwing at Hamilton makes him clear No1 make no mistake about that.

Seems to have really blown up overnight, absolutely loads of people on twitter are talking about it being done.

There's also a suggestion of Alonso going the other way, but I doubt that one.

If he joins Lotus then Santander will probably switch teams as well but I just can't see him joining them. Also hearing rumours about him joining Mclaren.

I'd hope that Alonso would stay, it would be brilliant to see two of the very best drivers around in the same car trying to take on the Red Bull. Even if it was a disaster, it would be brilliant to see how the 2 of them behave and react to it.

Is it true that Rory Byrne is working on Ferrari's car for 2014? A friend of mine talked about it yesterday. Would be brilliant if he came back from retirement to challenge Newey again. Can't see Alonso leaving Ferarri if that's true.

Yeah he's coming back, Ferrari confirmed this at the start of the year.

I hope its Alonso and Raikkonen as teammates, thats bound to be fun. But I get the feeling Alonso is on his way again, how about a Alonso/Button seat swap? Button still hasn't signed for 2014 at McLaren. McLaren are now a very different team to the one Alonso fell out with after all.

Would love to see Button at Ferrari, I wouldn't be surprised if he made a move in the summer. You can tell in the interviews he is frustrated with the cars performance.

Where is Alonso going to move that will be better? He's obviously angry with Ferrari, but he hasn't got much to gain by leaving. There's no seat for him at Red Bull or Mercedes and those are probably the only other two team who can give him a winning car next year (I wouldn't trust McLaren).

Alonso and Raikkonen together will be tasty. Even if they can't catch Vettel at least they might provide some entertainment against each other, which Massa cannot.

Alonso and Kimi in the same team would be droolworthy. I still can't believe that so much would've changed in the last 3 years that Ferrari would bring Kimi back. Didn't they part on not the greatest terms?

The red flashing rainlights of both Red Bulls were on, signifying the softer, slower gearchanges of the wet-weather map – just to keep the strain off the transmissions as much as possible.

Wily old Alonso, upon seeing Vettel's light, understood its significance and was soon radioing in that the light was distracting him – for the benefit of the race director who doubtless shook his head in amusement. "What?" said an amused Vettel upon hearing of this in the press conference. "You complained about the red light?"

"Well, yeah," answered Alonso. "It was disturbing a little bit. Obviously it's a very strong light with no rain."

"It's not as strong as [the light in this room]," countered a disbelieving Vettel.

"Sebastian's not used to having a car in front so he doesn't know how it feels when you are behind and it's always flashing," explained Alonso. "Sometimes you just have to touch a button by mistake and it comes on so I was asking if he could switch. So the whole race I had it flashing in my eyes."

"Yes, I was trying to get away from you so that it wouldn't be disturbing you so much," closed Vettel. Even his comic timing was perfect.

Alonso had surely been trying to get the more aggressive shift map imposed back upon the Red Bull, a little illustration of his relentless tenacity.

From autosport via p-f1, quite amusing.

I think RBR will take the grid penalty and change the gearbox for Singapore.

Massa confirms he's out of Ferrar in 2014.

Shame to see him leave as he's a likeable guy. I'm not sure about this Kimi and Alonso partnership as they will end up taking points off each other.

Massa said:
From 2014 i will no longer be driving for Ferrari. I would like to thank the team for all the victories and incredible moments experienced together. Thank you also to my wife and all of my family, to my fans and all my Sponsors. From each one of you I have always received a great support! Right now I want to push as hard as possible with Ferrari for the remaining 7 races. For next year, I want to find a team that can give me a competitive car to win many more races and challenge for the Championship which remains my greatest objective! Thank you all. Felipe

Hope he finds a team, he's a nice guy, perhaps a straight swap of seats with Kimi.

Massa hasn't been the same since the accident, it happens. Really when you look at his record since then its poor and its about time Ferrari moved him on, return to Sauber perhaps?

That looks the most likely with Hulkenberg replacing Kimi at Lotus. I know he's become a bit of a joke on here but it's a shame that Massa has never really been the same since Hungary 2009, he's never been the driver Alonso is and would always have been second fiddle but he was a very good driver for Ferrari up until that point.

no surprise they have let him go. He has been disappointing for a while now. Will be interesting to see if he gets a seat with another team.

Are there any other possibilities other than Kimi to take the free seat at Ferrari now?

Beeb say its confirmed although not seen it elsewhere. Will be a fun. I think it can work for Ferrari. Kimi is a no nonsense kind of character who just gets on with the racing and not get to heavily involved in the politics of it all.

Still surprised that Ferrari are taking him back after what happened previously.

I am very shocked that they took him back, it was always going to be Massa's last season with them and Kimi was the obvious choice.
