The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Big mistake by Ferrari to leave the options for last. Will probably cost Alonso the win.

Hamilton is going to be wearing Schumacher in a few laps at their current pace.

I've an idea. Hamilton to Red Bull with Vettel, Webber to Ferrari with Alonso, Raikkonen back to his best next season, hope they all build cars within a few tenths and watch the best drivers in the best cars entertain.

Pit to Lewis: “Tough race, Lewis. You gave it your all and the car wasn't quick enough. We need to make some improvements.”

Ya think?

Raikkonen staying where he is you mean? Who to join Mcalaren?

So, did Ferrari pit to early or was it always on the cards that Webber was getting past?

Raikkonen at Lotus or McLaren, either one would do but at this rate he might be better off a Lotus given McLaren can't string everything together in a single season anymore.

Vettel/Hamilton
Alonso/Webber
Button/Raikkonen
Rosberg/Schumacher (hope he stays 1 more)

Don't know if I can see him going back to McLaren but I guess you never know.

Certainly agree with you though, it'd be great to see them all in similarly fast cars.

Hamilton might as well race for Skoda or - more seriously - take a year out if he can't get the right move. McLaren's management is the most insipid & complacent I've ever seen.

Can't agree with that, taking a year out would be a bad idea.

I hated Ron Dennis, but he at least made McLaren a machine. Whitmarsh is such a wet lettuce.

Well I'm in PA and it is on delay on Fox and not at all on the speed channel when I checked the listings. I'll still check in the morning though.

it wasn't the guys on speed during the practice said it was on the fox channel but it's on at noon here. i watched a internet feed. fecking fox/speed show all the fecking asian races live at 3am or such then the older races , better races imo aren't shown live. disgraceful.

Yeah Whitmarsh has basically overseen the demise of McLaren as one of the two best teams on the grid.

2009 - shite car, developed it to actually win a couple of races and suddenly they believed they were the best development team on the grid, wrong.

2010 - Out developed after another poor start.

2011 - Out developed, albeit the Red Bull was a rocketship anyway.

2012 - Best car at Round 1 and up there for the atleast the next few, 2 wins to show for it. Out developed; now behind Ferrari, Red Bull, Lotus, Mercedes & you could argue Sauber & Williams are more or less with them.

I mean why do we constantly hear Whitmarsh spout bollocks about being a great development team when for the last 3 seasons they have been outdeveloped.

I get F1 is competitive and you can't win them all but McLaren can't keep a car consistenly near the front across a season anymore. Yeah they might be quick again next week but you can't trust them to be quick again the race after.

I watched it on a feed too. WTF is it with TV channels here making incredibly stupid decisions????

they'd rather show fishing on espn or some car repair show as opposed to live events fecking crazy programing.

Just watching Sky and people moaning about Silverstone and making a mess of it.
Please tell me what the hell they could do about the amount of rain that fell in 24 hours, they cant control the weather much has they would lie too.
I do feel for the fans that could not get there because of the rain and if I had been one of those with tickets that were told to stay away, yes I would of been mad.
One women was asked what they could of done better and she said "drainage", come on no amount of drainage would of coped with that amount of rain.

There was a bit more Silverstone could have done this weekend. Even with the stress on the infrastructure, they didn't put down enough metal sheets on the main access points for pedestrians and thus in turn it got very muddy, very quickly. They couldn't accomodate for the weather but even after Wednesday they had a good idea of what the forecast would be and the current state of play of car parks and pedestrian access, so a plan could have been executed. All we saw was a bit of limestone going down on the car park at the back of Vale & Club on Thursday night, nothing more.

There was more they could have done, the issue is that Silverstone rents fields and as such they cant provide any contingency plans which means putting tarmac down in places. Silverstone should probably look to doing this in the future if they feel the place is going to attract more fans each year.

We got there on Thursday in solid weather at the campsite & the car park was starting to get boggy. Friday & Saturday did the damage to it but we wisely camped on a hill & away from the tracks and it did the trick. We didn't mind the weather much, we had wellies & waterproof trousers and enough booze to keep us pissed for a month. Some people we saw there rocked up in flip flops :wenger:

Racing wise we enjoyed it. Friday we sat at Club and although not many cars came out on track throughout the day, the ones we did see almost all of them nearly (or did lose it) at Club with trying to put the power down too early. On Saturday we stood at the exit of Becketts into Chapel, its an awesome site to see the cars going in at a high speed with the sharp change in direction. FP3 was the only opportunity for this as qualifying was somewhat of a wash out. Race wise it was good, weather was a turn up for the books. We sat on the National Pit straight & the speed they carry into Copse is unreal (I'll post some vids later) and from there we went to the after race party at Luffield, followed by a track walk!

Sadly after the enjoyment of the weekend it certainly wasn't about the 90 minute wait to get towed out of the car park by a tractor this morning
