The F1 Thread 2012 Season

The best driver in F1 win, Perez 2nd, Kimi 5th, Hamilton doesn't win and Vettel not in Championship points. This is pretty much the perfect Grand Prix :D

Hamilton comes in 3rd, looks gratious and still gets laughed at. So just to tip the balance, Schumacher

Perez should have won the race, his car is way faster than Alonso, Massa is a bloody joke, shouldn't be driving for a ferrari...

You need to put this drive in to context for both Maldonado and Alonso. Look at the speed difference between Rosberg and Schumacher, and Button and Hamilton. The latter of the team mates were at times .5 - .6 a lap quicker. Nothing more than position on the circuit. Like football teams when they're on for a hiding. Better just to consolidate than risk the car. Turn the wick down and save it for another day.

Don't understand the laughting at Hamilton he drove a devent race after a dreadful pitstop
But haters will be haters

He also apparently had a hole in his front wing for most of the race after the restart, probably from Button's incident.

I'm laughing at the expression on his face you muppets. Why would I laugh at his result given Buttons in comparison.

There was nothing wrong with his face, almost every driver on the grid isn't overjoyed with 3rd unless they punched above their weight.

That would be Alonso.

If you're going by just driving ability then i would agree, but i think Button and Vettel are the best drivers on the grid taking account of the full package with Button just edging it for me :)

Kimi is brilliant. I really hope he gets 3-5 podium finishes this year.

Kimi already has more points for Lotus in 2 races than they achieved with all their drivers put together in the whole of last year.

To be fair, this "lotus" team are far more improved, they are basically the old renault F1 team though.

You also have caterham lotus, who were the old lotus team.

Said it before say it again, Alonso is the best driver out there. Fantastic driver. A man for all conditions and all situations.

Perez is going to be a star too.

Well done to Perez, nice of Narain to get in the way of vettel and button there, one incident I could understand by two incidents? jeez. I really do hate HRT though, they never show anything like they could get off the back of the grid, they are there to make up the numbers and just get in the way of the faster cars. They have no right being out on track at all.

TBF the one against Button was Button's fault and it was for position. Jenson admitted as much.

But yea in general HRT are a useless team. Don't see the point of them at all.

There is talk about Perez replacing Massa before the race in China. I hope that happens, Massa is a joke these days.

And the thing is, it's not like Minardi, who for all intensive purposes, pushed well above their wait to even get to GP's and race let alone be within a few seconds of some of the most dominant cars in the history of F1. HRT are a couple of seconds behind the closest cars. At times 8 seconds a lap behind the leaders. That for me is just plain dangerous. They should go back to racing GP2 because that is their level. Hell I think even a GP2 car would be closer to the quick cars than those guys.

Just watched the interview videos, Vettel shouldn't have called Narain an idiot I didnt really like that tbh. Narain was moaning about the front runners sometimes bullying them when they are being lapped which is just ridiculous. You are running 7-8 seconds off the pace every single race and as a lapped car its your responsibility to move off the racing line and get out of they way of the car lapping you. I dont like when the back markers try to say they are also racing their own race, its wrong to look at it that way. They are all on the same grid and should be looking for the same prize, there shouldnt be a separate race for the front runners and back markers, if you cant keep up then feck off to GP 2, we will watch you struggle to keep up there instead.

Yeah he's out of order saying that really, I mean its not like he hasn't ever ruined peoples races is it (Button at Spa says hello).

In the heat of the moment though I am sure its easy to say things like that, I mean after all Narain is slower than a slow thing and he ruined a drivers good result. I think he just made a simple mistake in trying to tuck in behind Vettel, shit happens sometimes.

Hadn't seen any of the interview's, just watched it on BBC's website now, Seb's out of order for saying that definitely. I can understand his frustration and Narain was clearly at fault from the replays but Seb shouldn't be saying things like that.

Also worth pointing out that he was pretty stupid himself in flinging tyre shreds all over the circuit trying to drive too fast with 3 wheels.

It's wasn't his finest hour thats for sure. People like to believe its him cracking up but in reality it isn't, it's just after his pretty much flawless season last year anything less will be seen as a failure even when it isn't.

Precisely. I don't think too many people are going to argue that the backmarkers should give way but it was a stupid mistake and as World Champion you have to show some amount of good grace and not call a fellow driver an idiot. Used to like Vettel a bit earlier, but that was really annoying.

The company behind the troubled Williams Formula 1 team today surprised the motor racing world by parting ways with chairman Adam Parr.

Williams ended last season in ninth place in the constructors’ standings with just five points. In contrast, Red Bull Racing, home of last year’s champion Sebastian Vettel, amassed 650 points in top spot.

Frank Williams, team principal and controlling shareholder in Williams Grand Prix Holdings, praised Parr for “the technical changes made last year which are beginning to show through in the team’s improved competitiveness this season”.

Williams’ driver Bruno Senna came sixth in yesterday’s race and collected eight points — more than the team managed in the whole of last season.

Nick Rose, a former chief financial officer of Diageo, steps up as chairman.

Williams was once the biggest name in F1, winning nine constructors’ titles between 1980 and 1997.

Just watched the 2nd GP2 race from Malaysia on SSF1, young lad called James Calado won the race in his first weekend in GP2 with a fantastic drive, could be one to keep an eye out for in the future.

Susie Wolff. Williams' new development driver. Why don't they all look like this? :(

This press release by Lotus is just... Wow...

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story....

Take a little look at what we found online. Don't you think it's funny? We do. We had a good old giggle. After all, we love a bit of self irony, just as well really. Although it's funny, this one's not accurate but then again, why let the facts get in the way of a good story? The inconvenient truth is - surprise, surprise - we have never said that there are no problems at Lotus.

So whilst lots of people obviously feel the need to comment on Lotus' current situation in the absence of proper facts or evidence, we can't ignore these particular mistruths any longer even if we would like to, so we have decided to turn a negative into a positive and use this hilarious piece of 'art' to set the record straight regarding the status quo at Group Lotus and try to return a little stability to a fast changing situation.

False rumour #1: Dany Bahar is no longer CEO of Group Lotus.

Fact: Rubbish - Dany Bahar still is.

False rumour #2: Dato' Sri Syed is no longer Managing Director of Proton.

Fact: Again rubbish. He still is.

You can thank good old Tony Fernandes for these two. Don't take everything he tweets too seriously perhaps he's still frustrated about owning Caterham instead of Lotus and the fact that he fights HRT and Marussia instead of Mercedes and Ferrari in F1.

And whilst we're on the subject of jokes - do you know the latest F1 joke? Mike Gascoyne, Caterham Group's Chief Technical Officer, has gone missing. Why? He's looking for the 30 to 40 points he predicted for the last F1 season. Funny.

Speaking of F1: It seems that one special so called 'independent' source is at the root of the lion's share of damaging rumours and misleading stories. The delightful Joe Saward which leads us nicely to....

False rumour #3: Joe Saward is JUST an independent journalist.

Fact: He is an active Director for the Caterham Group.
And unlike some, we don't want to get too personal, so we'll leave it to you to judge how 'independent' his stories about Lotus are.

False rumour #4: Group Lotus is no longer involved in F1.

Fact: Lotus F1 Team and Group Lotus have reshaped their commercial relationship earlier this year. The new governance agreement signifies the continued commitment of Group Lotus to the team and the sport.
Group Lotus' branding and marketing rights and subsequent activities remain unaffected by the new agreement until at least 2017. Alongside continued branding and title partnership status, Group Lotus is also the exclusive master licensee for all Lotus F1 Team merchandise.

The new agreement was reached following Group Lotus owners Proton providing team owners Genii with a £30m loan which is repayable within three years. In order to secure the loan Genii used 100% of the F1 team's assets as collateral meaning that under the conditions of the loan agreement Proton have been given full title guarantee to all plant, machinery, show cars, computers, office and the Lotus F1 Team headquarters.

In addition Proton retains the rights to purchase 10% of the F1 team. Another 10% share option will be activated if the team default on their loan obligations with Proton.

Again we leave it to your judgement how 'bad' Lotus' current situation in F1 is. And speaking of bad situations.....

False rumour #5: Group Lotus is going into administration.

Fact: Rubbish. The takeover of our parent company Proton by DRB-HICOM couldn't have come at a worse time, but up until that point Proton was (and still remains) fully committed to our five year business plan to create jobs and to expand the factory and business. With the takeover process the funding has been restricted and DRB-HICOM is taking time to understand what to do with the business. DRB-HICOM is currently in the middle of due diligence of Group Lotus and there have been and continue to be positive discussions between Group Lotus senior management and senior management at DRB-HICOM both here in Hethel and in Malaysia. At no point has DRB-HICOM indicated to Group Lotus that it intends to put the company into administration. The over-active rumour mill is seriously damaging our business reputation, image and credibility but it is what it is.

The simple fact is, and we haven't denied this - Lotus is going through a very difficult phase at the moment but we are showing true fighting spirit every day in trying to keep this vision alive. This is also a fact no matter what people outside of Lotus may say or tweet or blog.

FACHTS

Shame about Hamilton's penalty but as a viewer its not a bad thing.

Schumacher fastest in 2nd practise, apparently teams are pissed at the Mercedes DRS power down the main straight.

I think this is the longest straight in all of f1? (perhaps korea is bigger).

Either way should certainly get some good overtaking down there, i quite like China as a track, some tricky corners and some lovely straights too.
