The F1 Thread 2010 Season

No point watching F1 if we're going back to all this nonsense

Makes you glad Ferrari have been off the pace for a year and a half

What a feeble pussie Alonso is. Someone show me the Spanish sportsman about at the moment with a pair of testicles, don't seem to be many of them about at the moment

I bet he jumps around in celebration and everything

Ah, fair enough, apologies.
You're right man.
As far as i'm concerned team orders should be allowed given that they're going to happen anyway so it really doesn't make a difference. But the order should come from the technical director and it should be shown on tv.

Interesting to see that Massa agreed to be Alonso's whipping boy. After what happened with Rubens, you'd think he'd tell them to get stuffed. Not as if he's a slow driver.

Brundle raises a good point, Smedley made it very clear what he was saying there, especially with the apology.

I just can't see how they will get away with it, if an armchair fan can work it out then the FIA with telementry and common sense will surely deem that to be team orders. Rob Smedley made sure everyone knew when you know Ferrari themselves just wanted them to get it done clean.

I smell trouble for Ferrari.

Massa had it in his favour in 08 so it's swings and roundabouts really. The thing is in this case it's nowhere near to a point where one driver is out of contention and they were no longer under threat of losing 2nd so the WCC points were not gained. This instance is a bit of a crock.

BBC F1 analyst Martin Brundle: "I'm thinking two things. One is, Massa is 31 points behind Alonso but there are 225 still available including this race and there are 25 points for a win. The other is that has a slight whiff of Austria 2002 about it. What would we do if we were Ferrari's team management? What we don't know is what the contracts say. If I was the Ferrari team management, I think I would do the same thing. In Austria 2002 they didn't need to do that - Michael Schumacher was miles ahead in the championship - and now they do. They've had a tough few races and they need that to bring Alonso back into play in the championship."

BBC Radio 5 live F1 analyst Anthony Davidson: "That was as blatant as it comes. He might as well have put his arm out of the cockpit and waved him through. We heard the message, the secret code. It's as clear as day, as soon as we heard that message. But at the end of the day if Massa had been able to pull away from Alonso, he wouldn't have got that message. The race would have ended in tears if they hadn't swapped positions, because Alonso would have tried something, we know he would. That's the world we live in, I'm sorry. It's about the team."

throw both Ferrari's out of the race.

I'm happy for Alonso actually. He's been harshly treated and had all sorts of luck go against him in the last few races. Deserves something.

Though this again reminds me why I've always hated Ferari.

Unfortunately bodies like the FIA aren't supposed to use common sense, they are supposed to look at it in black and white, which unfortunately means that Ferrari will get off scot-free.

I m afraid it's not about the team at all, it's about the spectator sport. We've had all of this before, it makes a farce of the sport, we've watched a rigged contest today. Alonso was not fast enoug to overtake his team mate, so why should he win?

Team orders are banned for this very reason, and given the clear breach of that, hopefully the authorities move to punish

FIA F1 Sporting Reguations:
39.1 Team orders which interfere with a race result are prohibited.

What did you think when Massa did it for Kimi

I gave my position earlier, in that when one driver is out of the running and the other a contender I understand the need for it, and it doesn't bother me, it's a team sport. But in this instance here that wasn't the situation, its far too early for needing to make those calls. Also worth pointing out that Kimi did it for Massa too, so he's has the benefit of it himself in the past.

I'm hoping one of the teams lodge a complaint about it so the FIA are forced to investigate.

There was still enough debate about the Massa Kimi one. Raikkonen was flying prior to their stops and had an exceptional outlap where as Massa's pace never really deviated.

I didn't really want to open the can of worms but I still think Raikkonen got past Massa in Brazil 07 on merit.

Spanish anthem on German soil.

The Germans must have hated it.
