The Expendables, best 80's style action film since the 80's?

OMG the AA-12 shotgun in this is something else.

looked summat like this!

Film with alot of fun. script and some of the acting is hilariously bad but you never mind as thats part of the charm .... but the action scenes were seriously good.

Defo worth a few hours of your life.

The Expendables

Well, how do you rate this? It's silly, over-the-top-violent, frantic action with a see-through plot and not a single outstanding actor performance. It was absolutely brilliant. I could almost sense the expectations from the crowd as we walked into the cinema and the film delivered from the first scene. For what it is, what it's trying to be and most importantly what it's not trying to be it could hardly have been better. Thoroughly enjoyable and from the grins, the laughs and the general mood of the people exciting the cinema afterwards it's a roaring success. So refreshing. I would have to give it 9/10 even though it's not a good film, go figure.

Could just as well post it here. Pure entertainment.

I am watching it again at the minute. Statham is great in it.

He still can't pull off an American accent for shit, though.

It was worth seeing but very depressing seeing how old they all looked. Arnie almost put his shoulder out swinging those doors open, Dolph is rough-looking while Stallone just looks fecking scary with spaghetti veins everywhere and those weird ********ly fecked-up eyes. Even Jet-Li looked old while the bloke with the cailiflower ear and Chris Rock's dad were pointless.

At least Mickey Rourke got the chance to remind everybody what acting is. I can't believe some of you cnuts are slating him. Then again, why did Stallone bother with him in such a movie?

The bird was minging too.

Saw it last night.

Script was bad, the acting ranged from acceptable to appalling and the film slowed down a bit in the middle. All of this pales in comparrison to the action frenzy at the end of the film which left me grinning like a schoolboy. I love this film and I will definitely be seeing it again.

That gun!

Agree with that write up Bill.

Shame that Stallone didn't ask Shane Black to write the script though. Not only would that have been a cool nod to the golden era of action movies but it might also have had some susbtance other than a load of big explosions & fight scenes.

Surely it can't just have been me who had to fight the overwhelming urge to bellow "Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold is here, King! Bah gawd!"?

On a more serious note, I liked this. Maybe could have done with less Stallone/Statham boring dialogue bits, and more background to Couture's/Crew's/Li's characters. From what I gathered:

Couture has a dodgy ear. He also punches a burning Stone Cold, which was pretty awesome.

Jet Li has a family. Or maybe he doesn't. Also he is short.

Crews...blows stuff up.

Even Mickey Rourke had more character, FFS. I know these movies aren't supposed to be full of story, but like I say, you could have taken out a couple of Stallone/Statham scenes.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie. On a side note, I would love Bruce Willis in the sequel as has been rumoured. He has this natural "hard-man" image, which has only been intensified since he lost the hair.

Shane Black who was in Predator!
