The Europa League 2017/18(Use the SF thread to discuss the current match)

What I don't understand is when they travel abroad, why don't the local authorities take strong measures and put them in prison for good when they incite violence and commit crimes?

I'm sure European authorities are well aware of all the top ultras from every different country. Why is nothing done about them? I ask the same questions to myself and in my own country, because we have the same problems. The police, the agencies, they all know who these people are, what kind of criminal activity and organisations they have, the way they conduct themselves in public places and how they harm the sport, the economy, the social feelings of people about justice and a lot more. I can fully admit Eastern-European countires in general still have big problems with hooligans but I don't understand how, why and why is it allowed for these people to walk freely in other parts of Europe and the world.

I don't think it's fair to single out Russia for this. As far as I know, in South America there are still huge problems in this matter. I think a few years ago there was a massive problem in one stadium where fans were seen literally caving in other people's heads while they are on the ground. It was horrific.
Innocent until proven guilty. Joining the Ultra ain't criminal act. They act out later is. Thing is when they act out they act out with numbers so not easy for local police to step in. Your special force can't just follow them every step. And there would be new faces popping up when the old ones got blacklisted

I can safely speak about my own country and in our case, it's well known the biggest ultras fractions and organisations are actually drug trafficking circles, protected by certain wealthy individuals in the country, some not affiliated officially with criminal behaviour, others being notorious and well-known for their crimes throughout all Europe and parts of the world. So I actually know how these "communities" survive here.

What I don't get is how it's not stopped when it reaches Central and Western Europe. I'm sure they have the resources, the information and the tools to do just that, if it's something the responsible authorities were seriously bothered about. It's definitely not impossible to tackle this problem with much more intensity and force when needed.

More info needed such as whether these individual are in their countries watch list to begin with? Even if they're the sad truth is against organized crime, many times the government don't have the resource to weed the frys. They are more invest in to take the organization down, which is tough and resource draining. What is the point of catching few bunches here and there when with the dirty money involved, there would always be new guys taking over. Government end up using tax to feed these prisoners, and there is no end of them!

I've been following updates on the Spartak Bilbao clash on twitter and reddit that are talking about this being a pre-arranged thing between ultras of both clubs that got way out of hand and ended up seeing lots of normal fans attacked. The police apparently had a good idea what was going to happen and were prepared. There are Spanish posters in the reddit soccer thread on it mentioning the policeman that died of a heart attack was attacked by Herri Norte not the Spartak fans.

Shameful stuff that should see both clubs punished.

Tough last 16 this season in comparison to last. Atletico Madrid, Dortmund, Milan and one or two others have a good chance. Of course Arsenal could get a bit lucky like we did and have most of the 'bigger' teams (Lyon, Roma, Schalke) knock each other out.

Which they'll need really, because the Europa's the only way they're getting into the CL next season.

Definitely a tougher competition to win than last year. I think Lazio, Leipzig, Lyon and Marseille would all give Arsenal a good game, too.

Rooting for Lazio or Lyon to win the thing. Happy to see Salzburg qualify, too.

That's not even down to racism, is outright sociopathy making use of racism

It's just bonkers. These people should be banned from society in general

Don't Serie A teams get fined so often for racist chanting? I remember Juventus, Inter fans used to get fined a lot, maybe I mixing them up with other Serie A teams.

Not nearly often enough

And when you point it out to them, the defence is always the same "we didn't racially abuse him because of the color of his skin, therefore it wasn't racism!" And they genuinely believe it too!

Lol Milan. This should be a good game. It's like a CL game essentially but played in the EL.

Lazio v Dynamo Kiev
RB Leipzig v Zenit St Petersburg
Atletico Madrid v Lokomotiv Moscow
CSKA Moscow v Olympique Lyonnais
Marseille v Atletic Bilbao
Sporting v Viktoria Plzen
Borussia Dortmund v Salzburg
AC Milan v Arsenal

Kind of sad that the strongest teams are already paired against each other.
Good game nonetheless, but still.

Should be a fun watch that arsenal tie. Gattuso has steadied the Milan ship but if Wenger goes for it, they should advance.

I was hoping Milan would go far in the EL this season, it's needed for the morale. Make it happen, Arsene!

You would think so, but if there is a way to feck it up then Wenger will find it. Selling Giroud, Auba being cup-tied, Lacazette injured, being left with the fabulous Danny upfront.

They will have to play a lot better than last night and he will need to put his best side out.
True. Wenger has no reason not to play his full team as after Sunday it's the only competition we're still in.

Time to get Revenge for the 4-3. Only Issue is that we have no good striker up front as Auba is cup tied.

His constant slip ups and lack of coordination might be the key to getting in behind Bonucci and Co.

Tricky draw. Could have been worse though. Hopefully Lacazette can make a speed recovery because i don't trust Welbeck.

Ramsey false nine 9 - Özil as 10 and Wilshere and Xhaka behind. I can't survive another game with Welbeck.

Expected to get teams like Rostow and now we have Milan, nice. Attractive - Lyon, Dortmund, Atletico in the next rounds hopefully.
