The dream is over, should United go after any Leicester City player?

Mahrez is such an odd one. He was doing outrageous stuff last season and his statistical output was as good as Hazard's best season in the PL (2014/15).
I wonder if he can get back to that level.

There have been signs recently of that Mahrez, but he still can't seem to find the all-important final product. And really that was at the core of what made him so special last season, the weirdly high success rate of his final pass/shot.

I really do rate Mahrez and think he would be an upgrade for us on the right with Mkhitaryan playing as the 10 when we go 4-2-3-1 or as the LW when we go 4-3-3 (Martial, Mahrez and Mkhitaryan for 2 spots with Mata and Lingard covering them and Rashford and Zlatan/New9. Gotta assume one player from that group of 7 will be out at all times with injury and if we don't want Lingard playing a ton of meaningful minutes apart from specific jobs Mourinho wants done in big games, that's really 3/4 spots for 5 guys which is about what you want since you want to use at least 1, often 2 subs, for attacking purposes per game)

However, he seems like exactly the kind of player Mourinho falls out with and I think he'd sort of be a disaster here. Spurs should go get him. He'd give them a proper dribbler on the wing, which they still need, and Pochettino would probably get him working hard without just benching him for months. They'd have been better off buying him for 45 this summer instead of Sissoko for 30, for sure, but they could probably do a similar thing by shunting off Sissoko for 12-15M to some midtable or foreign side wanting power in the midfield and getting Mahrez for 25-30M this summer. He'd also be a massive upgrade for Arsenal over Iwobi as the RW in their 4-2-3-1. Swaps don't happen, but if Bellerin is staying, Oxlade-Chamberlain and 5M for Mahrez would probably be a solid move for both clubs. I even think he'd do okay for Chelsea fighting with Pedro for the RW spot, since they have so much coverage with their back 7 and such a need for dribbling in their front 3 to create against multiple defenders.

Surely people would take mahrez for 30m ffs, if he was a squad option on 100k or something. He has shown he can do it over a lot of games in a row.

All depends in mourinho likes him obv

Gray. We haven't purchased a lower level random English fast talent since Zaha.

Gray is a seriously talented kid who I'd be happy us taking a punt on. His goal at OT earlier in the season was absolute class, basically out of nothing.

Chilwell, Ndidi and Gray I wouldn't mind taking as they look good prospects. A few others like Vardy, Mahrez and Drinkwater I wouldn't mind as squad options.

They don't have anyone I'm too fussed about. Ndidi and Gray look interesting but are not ready for Utd. Schmeichel isn't even an upgrade on Romero. Mahrez could be a one season wonder and would be a risk. Vardy can feck right off; can't stand the lanky bean-headed feckface.

Matty James was their best midfielder before his injury in 2015, kept Drinkwater out. Can see him making an impact there next season, he's been regaining form and fitness at Barnsley. Probably the only one in their squad with top 4 quality, just doesn't have the body for it.

Beyond him, there's not really a player who'd come in and make any kind of impact; Ashley Young is a better fullback than all of theirs......although I think Mourinho could give Albrighton a very specific role in one of his tactical master classes, much like Lingard and Young on the weekend.

When he can be arsed, Vardy is brilliant. Pace, energy, work rate and finishing.

No thanks, not after they displayed that they will not play for the team if they don't like the manager/have issues, don't need drama queens at the club, got enough dancing queens don't need drama.

I'd rather start Lingard over Mahrez any day of the week.

The vast majority of Leicester's attacking success has come through counter-attacking and exploiting teams that play a high defensive line (Liverpool and Man City this season). United's main problems relate to teams that have used a deep block against us.

As astonishing as their title winning season was, the attitude of the Leicester players this season has been a complete disgrace. We can't afford to drop careless points if we are to win the title, the Leicester team went missing for practically half a season.

Vardy maybe a option if we fail to land Griezmann/Lukaku.

Lol no thanks

Mahrez as competition on the right.

Why is the Vardy option so absurd?
Vardy would share game time with Miki.
Vardy - proven goal scorer in the EPL.
Miki - 4 league goals?

Let me remind people that our major problem is goal scoring and Miki is to blame in this area as he doesn't score enough. A player we bought, in his prime, who is not delivering.
Providing the price is right, he can definitely do a job for any team in the EPL, including us.

Now, this is a very good argument, for not signing any LCFC attackers.
Saying, "Lol no thanks", is no argument at all and shows a serious lack of debating ability.

I don't think Vardy would be that bad an acquisition as he would bring energy as this year we have been sluggish in the last third. The problem with Vardy would be his age and how long he has left on the clock but if we got him for 15-20m for a year or two he would certainly give us an alternative to what we have.

I think Kasper will be a good buy for a top half side - though I can't see his dad letting him go to Liverpool

Vardy's ship has sailed and players like Drinkwater, Morgan, Huth, Simpson, Fuchs, Okazaki, King, Ulloa etc IMO are not going to get to play anywhere better now. Maybe if Leicester were to finally crumble in the next couple of seasons and get relegated they could stay in the Premier League at a mid-table side.

Mahrez is still a cut above the rest of that squad and should be playing in European competition in some capacity. I could see any of the top six going for him, but I think a few of said top six will try to poach Sanchez from Arsenal firstly, then perhaps settle for Mahrez as a second choice. If Hazard goes to Real Madrid then it would definitely be an interesting battle to determine who signs who, but that's a discussion for another thread.

Ndidi would probably be the next most sought after, again a team like Everton or Arsenal. Gray and Musa are players I think have huge potential, but should stay for now and get themselves more game time before deciding to move.

Probably Mahrez only.

:wenger:

You think we never signed from smaller clubs before?

Yeah but some of the names in this thread are laughable.

Drinkwater? Schmeichel? Vardy? Like really? None of these are good enough for United.

You should be aiming higher.

Drinkwater and Schmeichel is a poor choice, I agree with that but player like Vardy adds lot to the squad, not as a first choice player but as a squad player.
