The distant possibility of ever getting revenge for the 7 nil

Let it go already
Very much this. Thankfully I think I'm over the worst of this already, I've even surprised myself. For some strange reason if this was a 5-0 or even 6-0 I think I would have got over this in a single day due to those scores happening more regularly (including to us). Conceding 7 does not happen much at all and that single extra goal seems psychologically hard to take.

My main concern now is hopefully the team can move on from this and does not derail the season.

Pointless aiming for revenge in 1 game, that's a small potatoes,
Just make it so Utd are always winning trophies every season will drive them nuts.

Just win another trophy this season. Then parade it around and everyone drink a can of 7 up that will shut the feckers up if we take the piss out ourselves after winning another trophy.

Trouble is by doing that it's tasteless , and the 7up is as well. But I'd love another trophy this year .

Making them listen to the shitty songs of Avenged Sevenfold when we meet them at OT would be punishment enough.

PL and/or CL before them will be enough for me

I can't remember us ever smashing Liverpool. Even when we were so dominate under Fergie and they were at their shittest they always put in a decent performance and were never embarrassed.

The closest I can remember we came was the 3:3 at Anfield in 1994/95 when we were 3:0 up inside 30 minutes then threw it away. Then the 3:2 in 2010 i.e. the Berbatov hat-trick. They were at their lowest ebb under Hodgson and we were all over them. We went 2:0 up and were cruising and I thought we were actually going to get 4 or 5. Even then they pulled it back to 2:2 and it needed a Berba header to win it.

So yeah, we just never seem to be as up for it as them, or as ruthless anyway

Sorted. Cheers girls.
That's us at 8-8 now

3 nil at old trafford in 08! Was at the game, lovely day.

I remember when city beat us 5.1 under Fergie we then beat them 5.0 a couple seasons later which was looked on as revenge.

There is no chance we are ever getting that on Liverpool though. They will have that on us for ever and we will just have to take it

These results need to have the entire world aligned for you, luck, opposition fecking up, referees..everything.

It would need to be a strong defeat in a major cup final to put that right.

Who gives a sh*t as long as we continue to win trophies and they don't. They can hold the 'beat rivals 7-0' trophy.

We need to let go of this result. It's usually the worst result we've had.

It is a (small) record which belongs to them. And they will rub it forever. It is like it is.
Other head to head records are far more important.

But that 7:0 will stick until we trash them in a similar fashion. Which i doubt that it will ever happen.

The best revenge is being successful. I'll always remember the 8-2 Arsenal game but what do you think hurt the Arsenal fans more, that game or the lack of success the following years. I wouldn't want us to put 10 past Liverpool next season if it means not winning anything. Obsession about one result for me is a bit childish. My only worry with those things is the confidence of the team, and if we can react properly then it's behind me as far as I'm concerned.

The only way I can get this result out of my head short term, is to win the plastic treble and finish 4th. That would equal their best season they have had in the PL era.

long term would be to win the PL and CL and give them a pasting along the way and do the double over them too.

not really asking for much.

This. We were awful but we can't over fixate on Liverpool. We need to finish the season strong and continue the rebuild in the next transfer window.
I moved on on Monday. feck that game. We’ve got more important things to focus on than being insecure about bad internet memes.

98th minute, highly controversial winner after just 3 minutes were added on and VAR failed to spot the most blatant handball or something in a 1-0 win that sends every Liverpool player, fan and Klopp into a seething rage, frothing at the mouth and cracking their teeth...

That'll do nicely. Getting battered is awful but getting robbed at the death, especially when you feel it was unjust can break teams more.

There are many examples of this throughout history and some of my favourite wins over our rivals all involved very late, sometimes controversial winners. Owen v City, van Persie or Scholes v City, O'Shea v Liverpool and of course the Champions League final in 99.

The bitterness and pure hatred that follows such results lasts for years, even generations.

Oh for the love of God will you please just shut the feck up

Just forget it, we might not beat them 7-0 for another 100 years, if ever. 7-0 is a freak result for any team, it requires a unique set of circumstances. We just have to put it behind us and keep the upward trajectory, teams aren’t built on one game.

Are you a bit old, pops?

We'll avenge them within the next ten years.
It doesn’t really matter all that much. Us reaching 21 before they make it to 20 is infinitely more important.

Win another trophy this season and comfortably finish in the top 4 and they finish 5th or lower. That’ll make up for this loss.
I guarantee you they’d swap a 7-0 win for our season if this unfolds

What has hurt a lot about the trouncing is that if it happened with most other clubs there would always be a possibility for revenge. I'd even be more confident about scoring 7 at the Etihad but with Liverpool we've never been able to go to Anfield at humble them at our best, we've barely done it at Old Trafford either

I've been thinking over how United could avenge the defeat.

1) Thrashing Liverpool - will be unlikely in the near future even if ETH turns this team into world beaters. It would rely on Liverpool having a crisis and us going to Anfield in Red hot form.

2) going on an unbeaten run against Liverpool - in some ways more feesible but also arguably more difficult. If we could not lose to them for several seasons it may be a long drawn out revenge which can damage them psychologically. Even if its just a few seasons of 1 nils and two ones.

3) knocking them out of the Champions League - would be a big risk but if we could knock them out of the Champions League with decisive performances this might be doable and would hurt Liverpool considering how special the champions league is to them

Are there other ways for United to get revenge?
I’m liking option 3! But can we do it comfortably please, say, 4-0 on aggregate where they are never quite in the game.

Would be sweeter from a position of regularly finishing above them in the league and just being widely acknowledged to be better than them.

“Remember when we beat you 7-0?” they’ll say.

And we’ll say “yeah, you little shitheads, who could forget?”

Winning trophies and having them in our shadow once again is the obvious answer. But when it comes to one off memorable moments, I always think of Chelsea. We don't have a great record against them and they ditched us some heavy defeats but it's all forgiven when I remember we beat them in a CL final. Beating Liverpool in a major CL game would do for me.

Forget revenging that scoreline.
There are more important issues, this season finishing above liverpool and getting in the top 4 is the real issue. top 4 with 1 or possibly 2 trophies is a great season with a few blips (liverpool away the biggest) We are still a work in progress for ETH reign.

The defeat was painful but i have move on, its not the end of the world, no one died. We have bigger fish to fry going forward. Focus on that now.

For sure. But we'll avenge them, and they will smash us again. All in the next ten years.
Sure. Whatever. It’s far more important for us actually be in contention for and actually winning big trophies than these banter ‘trophies’

We should start a go fund campaign on buying free land in Liverpool and make many giant statues of Gerrard's slip so they can watch them wherever they go. Or just use the money from selling Maguire.

Or just ban Liverpool fans here again, that's probably cheaper.

Unrealistic and absurd to try and match the hurt of a 7-0 pasting.
Take out licks, move on and start winning football matches again.
Get the Qatar takeover completed and start to turn this club around with clearing the debt and investment in infrastructure.

Start bringing in one or two top quality players with the correct mindset each transfer window ( it's not about spending 500m+, we can do it within our own finances once Qatar has fixed the damage the glazers have left.)
