The Daily Mail: Guardiola to step down next summer (not confirmed)

I know he won’t but I’d like to see him at a club where there is no money, and he has to rely on his coaching and generating cash from sales. Then we will see how good a coach he really is

Classic chequebook manager tactics. This is his way of getting them to cough up money this summer. The squad is nearing the end of their cycle and some big names will have to be replaced soon. Expect City to go mad this summer in the transfer market.

Fantastic news, I can't stand him winning more titles with the 115 cheaters.

I would like to see Guardiola in Serie A, managing Inter or Milan.

I'm all for some City bashing but their squad has a near perfect age profile.

Haaland, Foden, Gvardiol, Doku all early 20s.
Even Dias, Grealish, Bilva and Rodri peak ages.

Keeper is 30 which is probably peak for a keeper.
It's literally Walker and KDB getting on a bit. But ones a freak of nature pace machine who will be quicker at 40 than most of the league.

It probably breaks him seeing the difference in fan atmosphere after winning trophies between City and everyone else - he's been at a fake club so long he probably forget what its like seeing actual fan celebrations.

Surprised he isn't stepping down this summer to be fair.
He normally doesn't hang around for long periods and has nothing more to achieve at City.
There's also the impending charges which he'd be better to distance himself from as much as possible.

Will be interested to see how this pans out for City. I think quite a few players may also think it’s time to move on when Pep calls it a day there.

Also, the attraction of the club will be greatly diminished without him being there, and they are not going to be easy boots to fill.

KdB looks well past his best now.
Bernardo Silva has been trying to leave every year for a while and think he will go this summer.
Haaland will head to Spain.
Kyle Walker will retire.
Rodri will go back to Spain.

The end of a cycle for City. They will still have plenty of great players and excellent youth products but it won’t be the same.

We just need to make sure we are in a lot better position than now to capitalise on this.

Yes most of the team is young but the critical players are the ones either getting on in age/on the way out.

I've always looked at City's core as 5 players. Rodri, Gundogan, Walker, KDB, Bernardo. Those are the players in my opinion who have really separated City from the pack over the years and will be near impossible to replace adequately. City without those 5 is a totally different proposition to face than with them because they are the true sources of control and City would not have nearly as much control of games without them as they do with them. Walker is the ultimate neutraliser in that defence and is the player that takes that defence over the top. Without him, they're not nearly as menacing at the back. Don't need to spell out KDB's importance to Manchester City. Bernardo and Gundogan were the reasons KDB's presence was not felt as much as it should have been when he has been injured in the past.

Gundo is gone. Walker and Bernardo would have left last summer if not for late interventions. KDB gets injured every other year it seems and is getting old himself.

Foden has bypassed KDB as their most important mid now. Rodri is peak age as is Bernado. Haaland is obviously one of the best.
Dias and Gvaridol are 2 immense defenders so there's really not much joy to be had hoping they drop as it is.
Pep going and the charges are the best hope we All have.

I agree to a point but Bilva is 29 and Rodri 27. Think theyre both good for 2-3 years easily.

Also I’d say Foden is a key player, can’t stand him (he’s a cheating git, was again on Saturday) but he’s a fantastic footballer, can play wide, central or 10 and lethal finisher, been important to a lot of big games last/this season and POTY.

And finally, City have shown they can replace key players over the last 6-8 years… helped by artificial funds. I’m sure they can again which is why I hope the charges investigations are guilty and quickly else there’ll always be a queue of players who’ll come for the medals and offbooks wheelbarrows of consultancy money.

Will he get a chance to manage one season in League Two?

How much money do you reckon he's made at City so far?

How much of a premium does a club like City have to pay a coach like Guardiola to even get him to entertain going there for any period of his career, let alone stay for as long as he has? I mean seriously, never mind his brother, what have they given him in total thus far, and how much will they slam on (and under) the table to try and keep him?

If Simeone is officially the highest paid manager in the world, can that be doubled, tripled quadrupled for Pep?

One thing is his official wage package with Manchester City. And then there's whatever deal there is done with Abu Dhabi and the emirates. I seriously doubt that Simeone earns more than him

His departure will open the league for the other contenders. Arsenal and Chelsea (If they can get their managerial appointment right) look like the most likely to duke it after he leaves. Too bad we haven't positioned ourselves to contend despite spending so much money in the last two summers.

How much is Girona worth now?

This time 12 months ago most would’ve put us in the position to take advantage. A lot can change in a year, so you never know.

 No

Hope he’s there when they get the book thrown at them. It’ll be fitting for him to forever be associated with the charges.

I don't think many would have put is in the position given how we faltered in the second half of the season and how ETH's signings didn't turn out to be as good as one thought. On top of that, we had another summer where we made some baffling purchases/loans.

Arsenal are the most well positioned right now to take advantage of the situation. I don't know how it'll go with Slot for Liverpool. I say Chelsea, as I think they have a good young squad which a good manager can take far. With a fit Nkunu and a top striker I can see them easily make the top 4 next season.

Jumping ship once they get charged hopefully.

Also, I am pretty sure they will heavily decline without him. Their squad isn't full of world beaters like some think it is.

This is levied out a lot, and it was put to me in countenance a few times in the other Pep thread, which I decided not to incite further, but what is being missed is the squad is bespoke and precisely honed and optimised to what Pep wants. It’s like Klopp’s best Liverpool midfield being perfectly bespoke to his requirements before ageing caught up with them, except it’s extrapolated to an entire squad in Pep’s case. It’s not a luxury others get or have and if they did, we could talk about a fair playing field.

What’s most likely to happen at City is the next manager they truly believe in being given a perfectly bespoke squad too. You don’t need world stars in every position to achieve that for any manager, but them having the means to interchange to their requirements and specifications is pure, uncut manna.

It will be interesting if two of the three best managers in the world aren't in management next summer.
