The Daily Mail: Guardiola to step down next summer (not confirmed)

Think I’ve mentioned it a few times on here that I really really feel like the end is near for him at City. Wouldn’t have been surprised to see him go after the treble win but when the announcement never came I felt like 2025 will be the year and that feeling hasn’t changed. Will be great when he finally leaves England.

But where will he go? Barcelona are a mess and even though he could assert way more authority over that club than any other manager, I doubt he would be willing to work together with Laporta and the current board. I don’t see him having unfinished business at Bayern as I doubt that missing CL trophy bothers him or Bayern that much. The Serie A is beneath him, and so is international football. PSG would probably sell their souls to get him, but not sure there are many reasons for him to go there either…so I’m very unsure what’s gonna happen. Wouldn’t be surprised if he takes a sabbatical after leaving, and then join a new project like City where everything is already set up for him to succeed in 2026…or return to City after his vacation which would be the stuff of nightmares…but I can see that happen with both him at City and Klopp at Liverpool :(

Maybe he should go to Madrid or United, as such a huge betrayal arc would do wonders for football itself

It's probably true, and not just due to the charges. Managing at that level is extremely difficult, and I don't think modern managers have it in them to pull a Fergie. And for Fergie to even pull this off, he had to step back and delegate.

Like Klopp, I think he's burned out, and will probably take a year off and return to manage Barca again or a national team.

Wasn't it also Guardiola who previously took time off and was seen jet setting around the world during that time ?

He covers himself. Of course he’s not gonna drag them up from 3rd tier if they are relegated. He’s not a Buffon / Del Piero type, he’s joining the project with the most resources available.

I wouldn't be surprised if Saudi offer him megabucks to oversee football development in the country or something like that.

I think he'll be done with club football and will choose International football. He could fancy Italy but is Pep ready to not have everything his own way?

Would be great, but I doubt it, where is he going to go? He’s not old. Back to Barcelona? City is the perfect situation for him, unless something does happen with the charges.

So where is the ready made winner with lots of money flowing for his next venture? He's not likely to leave without a ready made success story set up - probably after a sabbatical.
There's no prestige but lots of money in Abu Dhabi or N. America.

Old news.

He said next season would be his last months ago.

Parallels between City and the Tories. Both absolute blue frauds who know the end is coming.

Very interesting timing if true with Berrada leaving to come here. We've taken an important figure from City whether they want to admit it or not.

Not entirely convinced. He will go eventually but (and I might be wrong) I think I remember him speaking about discussions with the club over extension when he was asked about Klopp’s departure earlier in the season. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that him talking about not staying too much longer later is down to being emotionally drained from a long season and will re consider when he is somewhat more refreshed next year.

However, after 6 titles in 7 years, it would be great for the division if he did leave and there would be somewhat a re-balance of power, much like when Fergie left us.

I do think it's likely he'll leave next summer. Said this before reading it today. The charges will FINALLY be dealt with next summer, just in time for the rat to leave the sinking ship.

I do not welcome these news. Afraid what they could achieve with all that money and a competent Champions League manager in charge.

They could have easily tied Liverpool for CLs by now had they made a better hire.

Be really interesting to see who city pick to replace him. Regardless of who it is there will be the inevitable drop off in standards.

Also wonder if the impending outcome of the 115 charges by then would put potential managers off

If this happens them Liverpool and united are one step closer to finally challenging each other for the title for one of the very few times in the rivalry. City’s rise and being top dog in Manchester had to have an impact on the whole mindset of united and I reckon the fog might lift around united once he’s gone.

Let's slowly get our house in order. Then we could compete. Last seven years have been impossible. Martinez, Dalot, Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund and are the players we need to build on. Diallo has potential too, hopefully Rashford can come back.

We seriously need to replace the goalkeeper. Maguire and Shaw should be moved on if possible along with Casemiro. Whether Ten Hag is in charge of not, there are some signs of positivity. Shocking we had a - goal difference though.

It’s a surprise that he’s stayed 9 years to be honest, so wouldn’t be surprised by that news.

Guardiola will leave City next year, that is certain. But were he will go next is not. Sabbatical, international football, managing in Italy, going to help in some capacity his brother at Girona, semiretirement in New York managing NY City etc are all possible destinations. Return to Barcelona or Bayern Munchen as manager is not an option. Recently he said that he would love to return to Barca one day but only as club's president wich is very interesting idea itself..

I hope its true but he's like the bad guy in a horror movie. I won't believe he's truly gone until he's truly gone and the credits are rolling.

I do think that the timing is right, not just with the 115 charges but also with the age profile of the squad. Nothing indicates so far that he is really interested in building another team for a whole new cycle. I actually wonder whether he would have left this summer or last but was convinced to stay because it would be such a terrible look for the club if he jumped ship right before the 115 charges get adjudicated.

You've just hired a manager from Holland with a worse win percentage than Ten Hag and your best players are 30+

Ferguson's longevity was something else he was 57 when he led United to the treble in 1999. Klopp aged 56 gone after 9 seasons and if Pep goes as reported he'll be 54 it will also be nine seasons. That would have been season 1994/95 for Ferguson.

Who is the most realistic, yet shittest candidate they could appoint?

Nope. He has a family business to take care aka his brother is doing business with the Sheikh. If the Sheikh wants him to stay he will stay. 300M over 3 years will be injected into his brother business. You know what I mean.

2025 always felt likely... Probably 5 in a row, all his success in the Prem he'd think he's probably achieved all he can there.

I can see him coaching in Italy before eventually finding his way back to Barcelona for the final decade of his career.

I expect City to replace him with Luis Enrique who will actually make them better in the champions league as he isn’t going to try some of the silly moves that Pep occasionally does, but he will be far worse in the league.

He'll never, ever go to Madrid. As much of a rat as he is, he's a devoted Catalan nationalist and that's the one place he'll never touch.

I'm expecting him to take a year off. And I wouldn't be surprised if his next move is to run for president of Barcelona. He'd win in a landslide

Wouldn't surprise me if a certain someone would be happy to fund that...

He will manage a national team it’s the only thing missing from his resume or go back to Barcelona and cheat there way out of the big black hole they are in.

how can a national team gain an unfair advantage over their competitors? surely thats the only way to entice Pep to a job

This time it's different. A number of reasons :-

1. The looming threat of retrospective punishment for things he's accomplished in the time that he has been there is a massive demotivator.
2. Operating as head coach during a time in which City could be found guilty would be a difficult burden to weather.
3. Key executive and administrative staff leaving City undermines the infrastructure that he's been comfortable working under for so long.
4. He has achieved pretty much everything he could possibly want to achieve, and has said so after the treble win.
5. After so long in this country, it is natural for someone to long for the familiarity of their native home.
6. Having an enduring and ever-present rival in Klopp kept it interesting for him, and without Klopp, perhaps the competitive drive as left.
7. His brother running Girona seems to me like a natural transition into getting involved with them in some capacity.

Other than Berrada, is anyone else leaving? Begiristain leaving will almost mean Pep will as well.
