Music The Cure

God I thought Robert Smith had died for a minute when this thread was bumped, then remembered Olly is a superfan and never stops posting on them. Phew.

Funny seeing this bumped now, I've listened to nothing but Cure for the past 4-5 days or so. Disintegration is one of my favorite albums.

They are playing a 40th anniversary concert at Hyde Park in July(The line up is a dream for any fans of the shoe gaze stuff). Although I image the tickets are going to cost a fortune.
£126 a ticket is the cheapest I can find. Probably still worth it...I'll decide in the morning.

This bootleg is amazing, if it was an official live album it'd be a bloody great one

00:00:00 - m
00:03:57 - the drowning man
00:10:09 - a short term effect
00:14:29 - cold
00:18:42 - at night
00:25:07 - splintered in her head
00:29:32 - three imaginary boys
00:33:01 - primary
00:36:56 - one hundred years
00:45:01 - play for today
00:48:44 - a strange day
00:52:43 - a forest
01:00:31 - 10:15 saturday night
01:04:55 - the figurehead
01:11:31 - pornography
01:18:22 - killing an arab
01:21:40 - forever

I love Like Cockatoos on Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me.

Has to be heard on a good system or very good headphones though.

Thanks for this man..

Just one? They have so many different styles it's almost impossible to do that :(

Hmm, I'll go with A Forest, I think that's a pretty good middle ground between most of their sounds. Plus it's just an amazing song.

Many thanks I enjoyed that.

They’re one of those bands I keep meaning to explore outside of the well known hits.

There's so much good stuff to be heard when you get into the albums.

If you haven't listened to Disintegration then you should do that like right now. It's just over an hour of amazingness.

Been listening to Disintegration a lot recently, my first proper step into The Cure, and I love it.

Coming up to the time where I try another album. Which should be next?

Listing my favourites would take way too long so I'll just go with some lesser known ones

Grinding Halt
Wendy Time
Pillbox Tales
M
Cut (One of my very favourites)
2 Late
Babble

Funny how I thought the exact same thing when I saw it here now..

Phew x2

It's hard to say really as they all kind of have their own sound.

I'd recommend going through all of the "classic" ones, which would be up to and including Wish since you can't really go wrong, except maybe with The Top which is a bit weird. Also check out Bloodflowers of the later albums as it's good, I kind of think of it as Disintegration-lite.

Edit: Go here and sort the albums by average rating for a general idea of the best ones - https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/the-cure

If you like Disintegration, I'd go for Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me next. It's too long but sporadically briliant and is a good bridge between poppy Cure and the "songs about drowning in dust" phase.
Try Staring at the Sea: a good early singles comp giving a feel for some of their earlier sounds (although the Cure have a bazillion great songs that no best of would ever include).

Just like heaven and my own favorite Pictures of You. Going to try get to see them in Malahide. The Cure and Malahide Castle perfect backdrop.

Live stream of their concert in Australia. Playing Disintegration through.

saw them at the royal albert hall a number of years ago, they were awesome. love them.

Much prefer their earlier stuff. 3 imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography all fantastic albums
The only album I've really liked after that period was Disintegration. Wasn't keen on the dream phase if you will with the likes of The Top and Japanese Whispers and absolutely detest Friday I'm in Love.
Hard to pick a favourite track but have always loved Primary.

Fire in Cairo is probably my fav TheCure song. Not a huge fan of the band though!

Loved the early stuff like The Walk and The Forrest but really like their later pop output. Great band.
