The Criteria Draft - Preliminary Discussion

I guess I'd be better off assisting. Wouldn't be able to do any research until late Sunday. I'm game if you are.

Let's do it..

Former Champions of the Future Fantasy Draft are back.

PS. Our winning team had a collectively terrible season.

Pff LVG hasn't even coached United yet, so I will top it and be AnnahnoMoyes.

Drafting up a set of 12 criteria as we speak, then will allow a day or so to discuss? then kick start either tomorrow evening or Sunday?

We can probably start when you finish your criterias if you want to? Chances are I will make you lot wait a lot(may miss out) otherwise if we start tomorrow evening or Sunday.

My current favorite criterion:

1. A player who won a total number of international caps of at least 90 but no more than 99.
2. A player who has never been capped at International Level, and was not born after 1990.
3. A player who has never won a league title.
4. A player who has won the Balon D'Or, either Gold/Silver/Bronze (or equivalent).
5. A player who was born in one country but represented the national team of another country.
6. A player who has played in Italy, Spain and England, and has won at least a major cup or the league title in each.
7. A player who has reached the final of a world cup but has never won it.
8 & 9. 2 players who have played at the same club for at least 3 years but never won a trophy together. However, they must both have won a league title in another country.
10. A player which represented a country which is ranked outside the top 30 per the new rankings on 17/7/2014 (i.e. it doesn't matter if the country was ranked higher in the past, as long as it isn't there now). See below for reference.
11. A player who represented the same club for more than 10 years.
12. A player who has never played in the Champions League, Europa League, or the equivalent trophies of the past.

What do people think? They are just the ones that i've thought of in the last few hours plus suggestions from the past. More than happy to replace some if people think they suck and have better ideas!

This is going to take more research than my thesis.

For 8 and 9, I assume pick 9 then has to relate to pick 8? Looking forward to that.

When will the draft start? Would it be possible to either do it tonight/early tomorrow?

@Balu want to team up and be the team we once were about to be but never became? :P
Sorry, mate. I'm out of this one. Very unlikely that I find enough time to be a helpful assistant over the next 3-4 weeks.

Criteria 6. Does that one really compute? There are not many players that have played in all three countries, never mind won anything in all of them.

What are the 30 countries selected for ?

I think you need to define the criterias in detail a bit more too not leave ambiguity. As in what winning a CL or league for a player means/playing a final or getting a medal etc.. And someone will have to check through the draft or tell participants to provide proof if need be.

1. A player who won a total number of international caps of at least 90 but no more than 99.
2. A player who has obtained a maximum of 30 caps at International Level, and was not born after 1985.
3. A player who has never won a league title. In order to count as winning a league title for a club, the player must have represented the club for the full season in which the league title was won. The number of matches played is irrelevant.
4. A player who has won the Balon D'Or, either Gold/Silver/Bronze (or equivalent).
5. A player who was born in one country but represented the national team of another country.
6. A player who has played in at least 3 different countries during his career. He must have represented the club for a minimum of one full season in each country.
7. A player who has reached the final of a world cup but has never won it.
8 & 9. 2 players who have represented the same club for at least 2 full seasons but never won a trophy together. However, they must both have won a league title in another country.
10. A player which represented a country which is ranked outside the current top 30 per the new rankings on 17/7/2014 (i.e. it doesn't matter if the country was ranked higher in the past, as long as it isn't there now). See below for reference.
11. A player who represented the same club for more than 10 years.

I have updated the criteria as per the comments from
VivaJanuzaj, Snow and FromTheBench.

If all is ok, I'll create the other thread in a few hours and we can start the draft.

Gotta drive somewhere now, will create the official thread once I'm there and will need someone random to do the draw! Then we be good to go.
I can do that.

That was the final roster, right?

Are @paceme and @Aldo one team? Or is this a mistake that both are number 5? Then you guys have 17 teams ;)

Looks good.

LVS and KMG are ready.

I happily make the draw for you guys, but you need to kick one out first :) Or two of you agree to team up.

LOL oh shit - there's currently 17 players  That's some serious cock up by myself.

I'll open up a thread in a minute once I figure out what to do!

I can see some points which could end up being debatable/ambiguous - and which should probably be clarified 100% before kicking off:

3. A player who has never won a league title. In order to count as winning a league title for a club, the player must have represented the club for the full season in which the league title was won. The number of matches played is irrelevant.

6. A player who has played in at least 3 different countries during his career. He must have represented the club for a minimum of one full season in each country.

8/9. 2 players who have represented the same club for at least 2 full seasons but never won a trophy together. However, they must both have won a league title in another country.

The issue here would be: what constitutes a full season? Given that the number of matches doesn't matter, this is a pertinent question.

11. A player who represented the same club for more than 10 years.

Possibly ambiguous. "A minimum of ten years" would be my interpretation.

Finally, there could - possibly - be an issue with the FIFA top 30 list. Countries that no longer exist, etc.

Full season - from the end of the summer transfer window to the final official match of that season for that club.

A minimum of 10 years would be correct.

If the country no longer exists it isn't in the top 30 today, is it? :P.
