The Criteria Draft - Preliminary Discussion

Some suggestions :

- No TP.
- Random order of picking every round rather than the reverse order. Host can be trusted to randomize.
- One player reinforcement per round.
- Pre start of game, every manager provides 2 player they would like to exempt from players pool. Restricts GOAT.

Not a bad idea. Might need adjustment, though - depending on the pool. 16 x 2 players could be too much.

I'm currently away from civilization (kind of) with limited battery until Sunday. When will this start?

Currently no co host! - just to be clear is it a choice between playing or hosting for you? If so, pick whatever you fancy! Both is also most welcome!

I don't know if I'll be online during the games... so reluctant to commit to playing. Maybe I can be a AM or help you run the game? I don't know how much time I'll have

The way this discussion is going probably as early as this weekend at some point? Sunday most likely, but could potentially be tomorrow at some point.

I think AMs will have a lot to do in these drafts I imagine as it'll be quite research intensive. There's a few people bobbing around who are looking for assistants so might be an idea to participate as it'll be more fun I imagine! I can get someone who has more time to help host then you can enjoy playing. How does that sound?

Reserve/Potential - Kazi

Also, I encourage people to get AMs. Especially those who aren't sure on time. There will probably be a lot of research in this one given the criteria so might be useful. Also allows those who want to play but aren't sure on time to contribute and get involved.

Also as it's a snake draft the overall process will probably take longer than the last few drafts so please only sign up if you really have the time!

Thanks guys.

First post for a long long time.

I´m interested in this, loved the previous drafts I was in last year.

But first what is the pool of players we are picking from?

Won't it be much simpler to just chose and stick with one criteria for every player when you pick? So no need to list out every criteria he falls under, which seems like a lot of tedious work, and then figure out at the end which one you want to use etc. Would also make things more interesting when you know which criteria other managers have covered and which ones they are gunning for.

I´m more for the opposite, skip presenting the criteria when you are picking and just present the 12 players against the 12 criterias at the end and if you end up with some error, let us say you miss one criteria you are assigned a SHEEP and one of your drafted players are taken away. Makes it a real mind game of guessing what other managers are planning for and leaves your own way more open for a real masterplan.

I have to agree with EDogen here. The idea of not really knowing what criteria is o/s for the opposition is a real thinking game.

As for pool of players, it's to be decided. I'm inclined to go with something around the 1960's 1970s so we are either old enough to have seen them play or there is ample footage and knowledge out there to have done sufficient research.

Trippy if I can play and help you host I'll happily do it.

What has been decided about the pool and stuff?

So at the moment I'm leaning to the following set up:

- DOB no earlier than 01/01/1965 (enough to scope out a few of the big hitters in the early 1960's).
- Transfer system allowed (you can only swap players, there is no concept of "money")
- No TP system - one reinforcement per round.
- Select your whole 12 squad and don't list any criteria. Then, at the end of the draft, that is when you say how your squad meets all 12.
- Standard snake draft.

The only real thing left to decide is the criterion (the biggest bit :P)

Hmm interesting concept. Count me In.

As for criterias from a Sheep draft in another forum here are some which can maybe be used here and some i came up with -

Select a player who won a total number of international caps of at least 90 but no more than 99.

Select a player who as managed a club he played for at some point in his career.
The player must have made at least one league appearance to be eligible.

Select a player who has played a match at the World Cup in the 1950s.

Select a player who has played a match at the World Cup in the 21st century.

Select two players who have a combined number of full international caps of 35 or fewer. (Combining 2 rounds into one.)

Select a player who has won a CL medal at two different clubs. At least one of the medals should have been won during the rebranded Champions League era.

Select a player who has played league football at the highest level (top flight or division) in 3 or more countries.

Select player A and player B who were born in the same calendar year. Players A and B must have been together at the same club at least at some point in their careers.

Select a player who made his top flight league debut before his 17t/18th birthday. Top flight is the highest tier/division in professional league football in any country.
This is from PL Sheep Draft in Bigsoccer, isn't it. Yeah, had a few tricky ones and the timeline was sorta same as ours so can use some of these.

Yeah - FromTheBench made a great list on the first page of this thread for starters.
Perhaps we should decide the tougher ones first.

A player who hasn't been in a WC Squad. No Best, Di Stefano, Kubala, etc due to the timeline so that can be a tough one.
A player who hasn't won a league title. (aka pick the least annoying Liverpool player)
A player with 0 national caps. To make that even tougher remove all players born after 1990 to exclude people going the easy way and picking youngsters who are well known right now.
A player who scored on debut?

Ok I'm in.

Anybody want to be an AM?

What about @Theon or @Snow

Or anybody else really?

Yeah, all AM's who are interested then give me a PM.

Let it be known up front that I love Eastern European players and I am prone to cry, rage or select an attacking player where a defender is needed.

Hmm, so it will be requirements as if it was a sheep draft without the complexity/chance based as we will have a snake draft? So I can't possibly pick a player which I won't get?

Have we settled on the pool? Post 01.01.1965?

If so, we should probably set the cutoff at Maradona's DOB (as has been done before) - i.e. no Maradona.

You could end up with sheep if you feck up and fail to pick up 12 eligible players at the end of the draft - ain't that so?

Essentially yeah it's v similar to a sheep draft just removes the risk of not getting your player with the tactical battle of deciding when to draft for each category.

I'll update the player list when home!

Sounds great, removed what I didn't like about a sheep draft and includes what I like.
