He was brilliant and that shouldn't be forgotten, unfortunately it ends for all players at some point. He is having a problem accepting that. The people round him should be helping in that department, but most appear to be massaging his ego so he thinks all his skills are still there and it is other peoples fault he isn't playing well. Related to this, I went to Malaysia and Singapore on holiday as a kid during the summer of 2002 (I had family there at the time), and remember seeing a Man Utd club shop in Kuala Lumpur.
And I also vaguely recall (I was young at the time) cousins visiting from India and being desperate to purchase Man Utd club merchandise and go on the Old Trafford tour in the 90s (and before the Treble winning season).

This is football, you are not going to scam your way through based on your "name". After he retires, he can be celebrated but if he is playing he needs to give the same amount as another player, Ronaldo is not capable of doing it.

I don't disagree with what sugar_kane is saying and I've been ashamed of the way our fans, mostly Internet fans to be fair, have treated Jones, Maguire, Rashford and now Sancho, but Ronaldo has invited this on himself. Of course, you have sympathy for what's happened in his personal life and it's always sad to see a once-great talent fade, but this guy tried to burn the building down before he left. He's shown no respect to his club, his teammates or to any right-minded Manchester United fan. That's why we're here. Because we support Manchester United. Ronaldo didn't just disrespect the club, he told tales outside of school to a disgraced former newspaper editor who led the assault against United when we didn't participate in the F.A Cup. He courted this response and gambled on having a great World Cup.

Personally I've adopted to BR and AR time as a way to avoid confusion. Ronaldo played his first competitive game for us in 2003 so currently we're in Year 19.
Not sure what happened in BR time. I think people lived under rocks and kicked mice for fun. We had a labour government at that point so probably all lived in darkness.
I don’t see someone being emotional and trying to hold it together at all. I see someone who’s been doing the same thing for a while, doing something he knows will attract the attention towards him. He was perfectly fine a few minutes earlier.
I don’t think anyone has an issue with his demise. It’s natural. He’s been phenomenal. What people including myself do have a problem with is his constant actions and reactions to effectively being told he’s not the right selection for the team. I think the thing Ronaldo and his fans are struggling with is that he was once one(joint with Messi) of the best players in the world. At 37 he isn't that player anymore, at man united and Portugal he hasn't even been one of the best players on the team never mind the world. His ego is clearly struggling to handle that. Somethings lots of footballers struggle with, and in the case of Ronaldo when he was so good for so long this is amplified by a 100.
For me I would have somehow lived with his interview and tantrums until he shat on ETH. That is where I drew the line, and he lost my support and sympathy.

And yet if he behaved as a professional with United, he would have got the support from the fans and fellow players/coaching staff to help him through the process yet he decided to burn his bridges and miscalculate his worth and appeal to other clubs. The national team is only just realising they can play without him and that would normally be a stark realisation for him but I don't think his ego will allow that.
As others have said as soon as he went in on the manager it was over in terms of any sort of sympathy or feeling for the man on my part and as childish as it is I take a lot of pleasure in watching this play out, because at a guess if he just asked the board to cancel his deal they likely would have done and he wouldn't have had to do that interview with Piers Morgan of all people and trashed the manager, he only did that so he could be the one to engineer a move and save the ignominy of the club terminating his deal quietly.

I genuinely think the ignominy of playing big games on the bench was too much for his ego to take here, and for all his talk of “standards” he genuinely couldn’t take the prospect of us playing Barca in the Europa with him sitting on the sidelines chewing a wasp… he’d rather engineer a move into the desert than suffer it (whilst paradoxically making a big play to the world that it’s about our standards/level) so to see him suffer this fate on the biggest stage anyway, under a manager he clearly thought wasn’t big enough to challenge him is incredibly cathartic tbph…. I can completely see why some are going over the top with it.

Completely agree, but this is more a "thing" about what about the next, if we should allow people to use so much "talking time" and arrogance, and just wear down team mates and teams like Ronaldo, and then say. "okay it is just not fair how much he gets in return" what about the next, is the signal then that you can just be an total utter asshole, and it will have "NO" repercussion.

To be fair not only Beckham, players like Nistelrooy, Scholes, Rooney and Giggs were also popular in Asia. But yeah Beckham was probably the biggest surpassing even Ronaldo. I mean he appeared more in fashion magazine than football magazine.Some people are really hurting today

He’s a 37 year old multi-millionaire who has spent 15+ years at the very top of his profession. Centre of attention, admired by millions if not billions of people. In that position and after all he has achieved and received, he lashed out at his employers, acted like a child and is now getting shit for it. It’s not a fecking tragedy. He’s a grown up, and can deal with it and if he can’t he’s free to retire with his medals and his millions. People aren’t immune from criticism for their actions, especially those as privileged as him.
I moved to Malaysia in 02, and I can assure you that United in particular and PL in general were huge since the day I stepped my foot there, not because of Becks or CR7, the people in this region are avid football fans, some of them with means, travel to OT yearly, multiple times in a season.
Based on what I have seen Malaysia and Singapore, the older generation (50yo or older) are mostly Liverpool fans, while those in age bracket (25-40) are mostly United fans, Arsenal and Chelsea are also popular to some extent in Malaysia and Singapore.
The main factor for the PL being popular in SEA/ASEAN region is the timing, afternoon and early evening games in the UK translate to later evening and night games in SEA
