The chase for 4th place (not top 4)

If arsenal still don't finish top 4 then they really need to have hard look at themselves.

Arsenal will get the 4th place and make no mistake about it, it will have nothing to do with Arsenal being good and everything to do with us and Spurs being so incredibly shit. We have gift wrapped Arsenal the 4th place.

You haven't gift wrapped us anything. 67 points was enough to get top 4 last 2 seasons. Currently we're on track for 71 points PPG. We've earnt it ourselves if it happens. But, if that's what makes you feel better fair enough.

It's not over anyway, table is still tight. Have to say I think Wolves and West Ham won't have enough. The next 3 games will determine Uniteds season. They could end up with 0 or 1 point, if they do it's over for them imo. Spurs look the next best, mostly because they have a front 3 who are dangerous and Kane really is picking up steam.

Currently we look good, but as mentioned, any big injuries and we're struggling.

Next 3 games, we would be incredibly lucky to get 1 point.

It's easy to be disappointed and reactionary after a poor result, but it's true.

Surely we are on course, for our worst ever points total, in the Premier League?

Hope we get destroyed in every game from this point of the season because I can’t stand the Europa league. Thursday night and Sunday games is cancer.

FC rosmosata from the Uzbekistan league better watch out, the mighty man Utd are coming next season

Games in hand doesn't mean points. Just like Arteta said the other day, let's go game by game and see where we finish in the end.

Its over for us after today, next games are against City away, home vs Spurs and Liverpool away. If we're lucky we'll take 3 points from those.

It's over, hopefully we can get 5th place, if not then we better end up 8th or below. That Conference league shit is only going to harm us.

Still many games to play. Only 5th pla

Not talking about games in hand, i'm talking about the points we've got so far, which so far is the same rate as any normal 4th place team in previous seasons. Spurs and United doing poorly has nothing to do with what we're doing.

Well, if that happens and you hate the Europa so much, god knows what you'll make of the Conference League.

Only thing keeping me sane is that Arsenal have a killer set of fixtures left

The points were there. Countless opportunities missed.

We had an exceptionally kind run of fixtures from the beginning of December to the end of February.

Hard to say it's over given the nature of the teams we're competing with, but it looks as though we've left ourselves too much to do.

We will still get there I think, arsenal will drop points, spurs will to, somehow united will turn up for the next few fixtures, it’s getting harder by the week though

Draw against Newcastle, loss against Wolves, draw against Villa, Burnley, Southampton and now Watford. That's 13 points dropped. In the end will cost us.

Great result for us but still nothing is done. It is completely possible Arsenal lose to Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs. And still have to play United. You will have to come up with something against City or Liverpool though (even draws are enough). Here's hoping Spurs don't actually go on a run.

If we had started the season with even a remotely competent manager you would not even be near top 4. You have been complete crap for most of the season and are only in the race because teams around you are underperforming so horribly bad.

If we had a normal season and you guys finished ahead I would gladly take the defeat and admit you were much better but if you have even followed United even slightly this year you would know we are having a disaster season.

In one corner you have a young squad, eager to play for the first time in CL
In another corner you have an ageing squad full of overpaid divas.
In the last corner you have a squad who knows that half of them will be sold in the summer.

makes your predictions who will it more?

Suddenly Arteta is a competent manager for Arsenal in utd fans' eye.

Arsenal on course for 70-71 points, United about 65-66.

Will be interesting to see if Arsenal can maintain it. The Arsenal United game near the end could be crucial if we can get something from Pool or City but I think we've just had too many frustrating draws against lower league teams to be in with a shout. We can only hope Arsenal slip up as well like so often is the case with teams chasing top 4. Credit to Arteta and players like Smith Rowe so far.

Way I look at this is the first three spaces are gone. Some people say Chelsea will be drawn in but they pretty much have the easiest run in of all teams in the league, with their next eight taking in all six of the bottom six plus Soton and West Ham. After that run, I can see them on or over 70 points with 5 to play.

That leaves, Arsenal, Utd, West Ham, Spurs and Wolves for the last spot. Personally, I don't see Wolves or West Ham doing it, Wolves could've and should've put a marker down during the week and bottled it; they may do enough to get Conference. West Ham I also think are starting to look really leggy and their lack of CF, after Antonio is coming back to bite them. Drawing Sevilla may be a blessing for them as it will probably stop them playing too many extra games. That said, I see them in the 6th-8th positions.

Spurs, I can't make head or tail of. One minute they look favourites for 4th, then next look like they should be a relegated team. In my opinion, Conte will churn enough results out of them to get them 4th-5th. Utd for me look simply like a divided team who look like a group of strangers on the pitch, individual quality wise they should be a top 4 team, but aren't gelling. I honestly cannot see higher than 5th and can see as low as 7th.

That leaves Arsenal. For me, they're in the driving seat, 3 games in hand over Utd and 2 over West Ham and 1 over Spurs and Wolves. Additionally, they're run in is better than most of the others and they've only played PL all season. Goals are an issue for them, but somehow they seem to have learned to defend for the first time in 10 years. As a result they've got to be on course for 4th-5th imo.

Final prediction:

1st - City
2nd - Dippers
3rd - Chelsea
4th - Arsenal
5th - Spurs
6th - Utd
7th - West Ham
8th - Wolves

This is absolutely rubbish on many fronts  Seems like you're just trying to make yourself feel better. And, newsflash, you've changed manager and you're still dropping points.

If you would like some facts. Take away the first 3 games of the season where we had basically a completely different team, we'd be 3rd in the league above Chelsea. 4th in goals scored, and 4th in goals conceded, all this with games in hand. So, please do tell me how we've been complete crap for most of the season? Not to mention as i've already said, our PPG are the same as any usual top 4 challenging side at this point of the season.

Woy's clearly got him rattled today. I don't think he understands the logic of your posts.

"If we had started the season with even a remotely competent manager you would not even be near top 4" - I love that. With Ole in charge, Utd finished 2nd last season did they not? Ralf incompetent too? Nothing to do with the players.

This forum is confusing, is Arteta a competent manager then, or 'Pep's lego head cone boy'.

You finish where you deserve to, no ifs, not buts. 4th place will be achieved on more points this season than recent ones.

We threw the towel in when we refused to bring in a midfielder in January. It's an Arsenal and Tottenham race.

Arse will have it down before their hard run of fixtures at the end of the season. Really pathetic league campaign from us, this.

Looking at the respective fixtures, I now have Arsenal finishing seven points ahead of us (that also assumes we get a draw away at the Emirates).

In my view, it's not even going to be close.

Feel better? I barely give a crap about the sport anymore I'm just being honest. You are countering my point by saying if we remove your first 3 games you would be better off... Look at the teams United have lost and dropped points against. We having a shambles of a season and probably won't even finish 5th.

Dropped so many points against bottom table teams and you say we are not gift wrapping top 4 for you lot when it's exactly what we are doing. You guys are playing for something while we have already given up. And funniest thing is you still lost against this crap United side.

What point are you trying to make?

We have a side which is inexperienced, and quite frankly not as good as United or Spurs. Yet, we are more consistent and beating most the teams we are meant to be. This is due to our own coaching and management. It has absolutely nothing to do with United.

You are just completely ignoring my point on how we have the same PPG atm as any normal top 4 challenger in previous history? So please do tell me why United doing poorly, means somehow we are being gifted top 4? I just don't understand your point. And again please tell me how we've been completely crap for most the season, interested to hear more about that one too despite every single metric saying otherwise?

We were absolutely crap for the first 3 games of the season. Since then (the majority of the season), we've actually been pretty consistent and quite good. Yet somehow we are just fluky and being gifted 4th.

Just mixed messages. Half the people on here don't rate Arteta or Arsenal and think we're crap. The other half think we are bottle jobs if we don't get 4th.

If you've given up that's down to your management and players. We could have given up after we got slapped by Liverpool. Or as you say, after we lost to Everton and United back to back, but we didn't.

This is all true. But the truth is also that United are having one of the worst seasons since Sir Alex left, a big reason as of why you will most likely be getting CL qualification. That is my point but you seem to refuse to accept it. I've watched you guys play this season and you are by no means an impressive team, a bit more competition from other sides and you would likely finish 5th or 6th.
