The chase for 4th place (not top 4)

We have to play them too….
One problem at a time, please. United have so many stuff or s*** to deal with. Maybe Ole will make a special comeback for that one against Man City. Anyway, Kane and Son, come on, play like as you two have been playing. S*** like Rashford.

Yes. We can be out of the race with defeat in the big games. Just that we have breathing space for now, while after 3 consecutive league defeats, another defeat to City would be extremely demoralizing for Tottenham.

Tottenham can be out of the race after this weekend game, because it's not 2 horse race. They may not have a chance to come back into it even if we would slip, since Arsenal is in better position right now.

Spurs losing this weekend will 100% not put them out of the race. Have you seen how garbage all three teams “in the hunt” are playing? It’ll go down to the wire, no one is going to be out to a loss to City especially.

Form.

Losing 4 league in the trot, the team morale is rock bottom. This makes every game a must win, because by then Tottenham would have to win all their games in hand just to have slim hope. Just because other teams would drop points, you can't say Tottenham can catch up because Tottenham likely continues to drop more points too. Tottenham is now having the worst form out of 4 teams. A defeat this weekend, even Wolves would stay ahead of them, and highly possible 6 points behind Arsenal!

Its a disaster in waiting him and Levy. It wont be long before complaints about transfers happen with him. Seemed a really transfer "needy" manager with us. But i still think he is awesome.
I agree with this. I don‘t like him all that much, but I think he knows where his strengths and limitations are. He knows he doesn‘t have Klopp‘s charisma, to be able to motivate limited players into constantly playing above everybody’s expectations. He also knows he can‘t dominate most games and suffocate teams into submission, the way Guardiola does.

But if you are willing to give him the funds he requests, he can put together a squad that will be very capable of achieving the goals he sets. I like that he doesn‘t avoid older players that many wouldn‘t consider signing, even if that‘s not the approach I‘d personally like to see at United.

Don‘t think there are many out there that can give you such a clear shot at success, as long as you put up the cash and understand it‘s only something short-term.

I agree it wouldn't put them out the race, but I just wanted to point out again that Arsenal are 2nd in the form table for last 6 in the league. The cup exits have no real relevance in a top 4 race, especially with an injury hit, AFCON hit side.

Maybe so, but Conte's ego will not be able to handle 4 league defeats on the trot and he will spontaneously combust

I mean I agree that it won’t be good for their confidence, but you just have to look at how inconsistent/poor all three sides are. I obviously am optimistic that in the end our boys will have that extra bit of quality and hit form at the right time (Ronaldo especially), but all the signs point towards this being one of the most exciting races for fourth because of how crap the teams are.

The fourth spot is there to be had. Moyes, Contr, and Arteta are conspiring to hand it to us. Ralf, please dispense with sentimentality and pick the players on form.

It doesn't depend on a single game, of course, but i think United has to beat Arsenal away if they are to get 4th.

Arsenals fixtures look v easy until they play us. And unlike us they are getting results when they're expected to win. Absolutely theirs to lose.

Wasn't expecting West Ham to drop a point against Newcastle. I'd agree with Arsenal being favorites, although whoever makes it at the end has been the cream of a very inconsistent and mediocre crop.

It will be a big one indeed as we're both probably going to get spanked by Liverpool. If Chelsea can't pick up some form, both clubs could get a result against them. But yeah a whole lot of games left to play, no way to predict it for sure yet.

Its Brentford today who were quite a walkover. They dont have teams like that until they play us. Wolves themselves will be a stern test and theyl have to get through the likes of Leicester, Villa, Southampton and Brighton on the way. I think they will certainly drop points in at least two of those.

Then theyl have rearranged fixtures of Chelsea and Liverpool to contest with too.

They'll do well to mess it up from here. The Burnley and Southampton draws killed it for us. Arsenal rarely drop points in those kind of games where they expect to win.

I'd agree. Our team is too inexperienced and we're lacking a striker badly. United's squad is much better than ours and you've got far more game winners than we do.

Good point, do seem to have a resilience about them this season though.

Spurs are not going away too easily, unfortunately. Kane and Son will be there. This race looks as it would be decided on the last day.

Massive result for Spurs that, think its between them and Arsenal now, United with an outside chance.

Like all the dross in this race though, Spurs are just as likely to lose to Burnley. We get wins at City too remember.

Didn't see that coming. That's Spurs and Arsenal in better positions than us now.

Huge result for Tottenham. Not only they stay in the race, but they're in decent position too as well as addressing their poor form. Winning big game is one hell of motivation boost.

I don’t care about the top four as much as most do on here, but it is wide open right now, even Chelsea could get dragged in if they’re not careful.

Our games against Spurs and Arsenal will be crucial and the games that define our position.

Yep, this is only big news if City was the only likely game to drop points in
It’s not, we are all shit.

A midfielder in January and we'd have this sewn up. Sigh.

I think united should be making top four by the looks of it. Ralfs first real test.

We still have Citeh and 'Pool to play. I short order too. I thing Ralf would do well to mirror Spurs formation from today against Citeh. Maybe even against both. Ole got a lot of joy playing a back 3 against the big boys. At least until this season.

ESR has done it again for us. Arteta has it right playing Saka and Martinelli, but ESR needs to come into the team and Martinelli plays down the middle.

There are bold and tough decisions to be made by all managers. Whoever makes them first gives their team the best chance.

Arteta to play a front three of ESR, Saka, Martinelli. Ralf to drop Maguire/Rashford indefinitely. The first manager to do this will juice his teams chances.

Its Arsenal and Spurs.. they'll do what they do..
We just have to get our act together.

That’s what It’s need and it’s a great sign. We create so many fecking chances that we just need to score and we should be alright

No one will need 70 points to get 4th tbh, probably looking at around 65-66 point range.

Still feels like you lot will be opened up pretty easily playing likes of Liverpool and Man. City again so need to get the wins against bottom half as insurance.

I know there used to be jokes about Ole's first real test on here but incredible Ragnick been very three months now and think West Ham only top 8 team you've actually played so interested what he comes up with when you play other top 6 teams as you'll likely need a win or two from those fixtures to get over the line.

We also played Wolves of the top 8 and lost. You're right we'll need unexpected results like Spurs last night to have a chance.
