The caf's official NFL 2006-2007 Season sweepstake

Sorry.

So SD-LB Merriman dropped the appeal and will miss the next 4 games. He'll be back for the Buffalo game and ready to chew rocks. If Losman is still the QB he might get killed.

Indy can't stop the run, Pats have 2 good running backs. Methinks the Colts are SOL (again).

Chargers will kill the Browns (-12.5 in Vegas)!

Any teams left?? cause I'm in. Go Cowboys!!!!
I hope we murder those bastard redskins tomorrow.

Manning with an early touchdown and the colts are 7-0 up.

Yeah I'm a Bills fan. When I started watching American Football as a kid, the only team you could ever get on tv where I live was the Bills. Since they were the only team I could see every week they became my team, plus they were the closest team to where I live.

But being a Bills fan has left me with nothing but four Super Bowl losses and a team that is currently crap and looks completely hopeless.....:annoyed:

17-14 half time. Brady with 2 interceptions and no touchdown passes so far.

Colts only unbeaten team left after the Bears were shocking against the dolphins.

Colts 27 - 20 Pariots FT

Brady had ashocker with 200 yrds and 4 interceptions with no touchdowns

Chargers win!! LT comes through huge in 2nd half. Much closer than it should have been.

I only really know about the big teams.

Though for all the sports I watch:

American Football
Rugby
Baseball
Basketball

and I used to watch WWE/F when I was a wee nipper back in the days of The Rock,Stone Cold, Chris Jericho and Triple H.

Man, Brady sure did suck last night :( to say im suprised would be an under-statement.

The UK has emerged as the front-runner in the race to stage the first competitive NFL game to be played outside the American continent.

The NFL's 32 team owners voted last month to play two regular-season games a season outside the US from 2007.

Building delays at Wembley put a one-off game on hold this season, but the stadium is now almost finished and could host a game next autumn.

NFL UK boss Alistair Kirkwood said the UK was "guaranteed to have games".

Speaking to BBC Sport, Kirkwood said: "The question is when, not if. There is nothing guaranteed for 2007 but it's between us and one other country, and I think we're the front-runners.

"Favourites have lost in the past but our cushion is that if we don't get it in 2007, we'll get it in 2008.

"But we desperately want it in 2007. The sooner we get (a game), the sooner we will feel the benefits."

We need this platform to get away from the cobwebs of people assuming we were an 80s phenomenon

At the time of the NFL owners meeting in New Orleans, the four leading candidates for the first game were Canada, Germany, Mexico and the UK.

Kirkwood now believes the field has been reduced to two, with the British bid leading.

The NFL staged its first and, until now, only competitive game outside the US in 2005, when the Arizona Cardinals played the San Francisco 49ers in front of 103,467 fans at Mexico City's Aztec Stadium.

With this season's proposed game at Wembley cancelled, there have been no international NFL fixtures in 2006 but there is one on the schedule for 2007, a pre-season friendly between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots in Beijing in August.

London hosted pre-season NFL friendlies in the 1980s, the decade when interest in American Football first flowered in this country.

With English football marred by hooliganism and live sport on TV relatively rare, the newly-arrived Channel 4 helped spawn a generation of gridiron fans with its ground-breaking coverage of the sport.

The old Wembley, in fact, staged the NFL's first officially sanctioned pre-season game outside the US in 1986 when the world champion Chicago Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys.

But that interest waned in the late 1990s as football fought back - copying ideas like the NFL's "Monday Night Game" along the way - and British gridiron teams, such as the London Monarchs, failed to take hold.

Enthusiasm for the NFL in the UK, however, is on the rise again - TV ratings and sponsorship revenues are up - and Kirkwood is convinced the sport is set for a resurgence in this country.

"If we stage a regular-season game we will get the kind of broad media attention that we haven't had for many, many years," he said.

"We've done friendlies in the past and that helped launch the game here, but fans are so much more knowledgeable now and have more choice - it has to be a competitive game for it to really resonate.

"Unless you're an indigenous sport, and you are in the hearts and minds of the public, you have to keep raising the bar.

"If we can get a big-name team to come over we can break through the clutter of other sports.

We would want to come back in 2009 and 2011 - we're looking for a home

Alistair Kirkwood
"I think we could be somebody's second or third favourite sport. You can be an Arsenal fan, a Chicago Bears fan and a Bath rugby fan. It's complementary. We play at different times.

"But we need this platform to get away from the cobwebs of people assuming we were an '80s phenomenon."

The most likely sites for the game, which will be held on a Sunday in late September/early October next year, are Wembley, Twickenham and Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

"Wembley will obviously be the hot topic," said Kirkwood.

"It's a brand new stadium, with great hospitality potential, but Twickenham is only 8,000 less in capacity [82,000 to Wembley's 90,000] and it's a great NFL-type stadium too.

"But we're not looking at this as a one-off game. We would want to come back in 2009 and 2011. We're looking for a home."

That kind of commitment will not come cheap for Kirkwood's UK operation.

NFL teams, which work on a strict revenue-sharing basis, only play a guaranteed eight home games a season. These games are almost always sold out, with average attendances being over 68,000.

The plan for the international fixtures is that the 32 teams will play one 'home' game each over a 16-year period, with each team being compensated for the loss of a home game.

William Perry's arrival in 1995 failed to make any lasting impact
"It will be an enormous investment but truly transformational in terms of reaching out to a much wider fan-base," he said.

"This is bigger than a Premiership game being played in the US. They only have eight home games a season and with their gates it's like every game being Chelsea v Manchester United.

"So it's not just a case of what's the value from a UK point of view, it's a question of how much value you take out of the US, and that's huge."

But Kirkwood is certain the benefits for the NFL and this country more than outweigh the costs.

The proposed game will kick off at 1800 BST, which is 1300 on America's East Coast, and will be live on US television.

With attracting American visitors the recently announced number one priority for London's tourist agency, live coverage of an NFL game at the new Wembley is the stuff of marketing men's dreams.

Kirkwood and his team now have six weeks to finalise their choice for a UK venue and find two NFL teams willing to take the transatlantic plunge.

A decision on which country has got the nod for 2007 will be made by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell before this season's Super Bowl in early February, with next season's schedule being announced in March.

Until then Kirkwood will be joining his Football Association equivalents in praying for a speedy completion to the Wembley project.

most of those four interceptions were the fault of the receivers not being able to put two hands on the feckin football. brady didn't have a great game, but it wasn't 100 percent his fault. really drove up the wall though, if there was any time for us to win, it was after vinatieri fecked up. I was right pissed.

woohooo, another Pats fan?:D

I am beginning to hate the Colts with a passion normally reserved for the Yankees, Habs and Lakers (yes I am a hopeless Boston sports fan). Manning is admittedly a funny guy and a good QB (his adverts, though numerous, are entertaining). I am extremely tired of commentators like Madden sucking his dick continually throughout the game though; really fecking pisses me off. But good lord, there's only so many seasons the Colts can come out of the gates so damn good before they win the whole thing. Every year I am totally frightened by these guys, and then they feck it up in the playoffs, often from the Pats. They didn't really kill us last week, not by a long shot. But still, we were at home; we can't blow chances like that.

I was thinking over the past few games that we (the Patriots) have been looking as good as we ever have over the Belichick era, but the Colts game exposed some major flaws: the most glaring being the lack of any kind of go-to wide receiver. I wasn't moaning as much as the rest of New England when Branch was traded, but it is clear from last night that we need more than utility players on a game-ending drive. Brady was clearly in control; there was just nobody downfield to make the big catch.

Another worry: Without Rodney Harrison in our secondary, we can get absolutely slaughtered by some of the better passers in the NFL. Manning and company of course being the best of that. I was beginning to think that such players as Samuel, Wilson, etc had become legitimate members of the defense but they really were ravaged last sunday. It's worrying.

Ignoring the Colts game though, we've been really excellent. Brady's been improving at a steady rate (when he has a poor game, the whole team suffers accordingly; the Broncos game was similar to the Colts one, but we were up against a much more potent defense and a far inferior offense so it ended up balancing out); he was bloody brilliant against the Vikings. I still feel like we can take most of the teams in the NFL to school. Our running game (Maroney/Dillon one-two) is as good as any in the league. Our offensive line is stellar. Most of our defense is full of really hard men; all proven at the top level (the major worry with our D is the lack of reserves to come in if any of our top men go out i.e. Bruschi, Harrison, Vrabel, Seymour, Colvin) and I think an extremely dangerous d line and linebacker formation. Junior Seau brings a much appreciated presence and veteran fire to the staff. Again, the secondary (with the exception of Harrison) is a little worrisome, but still capable of holding their own against all but the very best.

It's very uncertain but I still think we're in the top four of the league. We have a real good shot; but no questions can be answered until the playoffs. We'll undoubtedly be a top seed in the AFC, our division is shit (who in their right mind picked the feckin Dolphins for champions this year, good lord!) so we'll probably get through the first round easily. Basically as soon as we come up against the Broncos and Colts, it'll be big game time. Both of those teams have proved to be a nemesis for us (Colts obviously, but Broncos at mile high stadium are equally tough). It'll be a hell of a game against either, and really all we need is to hold our mistakes in check and let Brady/our defence control the pace of the game. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. There aren't any tough games left in the regular season excepting what's looking to be a real cracker against the Bears, who may have a fantastic record but I personally think are quite overrated. They've really gotten lucky in some games, and beat the Cardinals (worst team in the NFL) by the skin of their teeth. Granted their defense is phenomenal and Grossman has really come into his own, but I'm not quite sure if they're the real deal, and I think we'll beat them easily. Regardless it will be a good game and a good test of our mettle. I don't see any other major opposition until playoff time when Denver and Indy await. But I've really been enjoying the season so far so hopefully we don't feck it up until the later stages. Godspeed, Belichick.

oh yea and like go Man Utd or somethin

More bad news for my Giants....Amani Toomer out for the season.

Toomer, Strahan, Umeniyora, Plaxico, Arrington all out....FFS

Noy, I agree with you about the media and their love affair with Manning, but you have to admit that they give Brady a pretty good dose of that too, not as much as Peyton, but a pretty good amount of love.

well at least during a patriots game there are other aspects of the team to wax poetic on; ie the defense mainly. with the colts, all the announcers seem to be able to come up with for 'expert analysis' is manning worship.

I still feel like it took three (not one or two) super bowl rings for the patriots to gain any respect in the media. we were always considered a flukey team who got lucky (vinatieri, bad referee decisions). most teams that win one get more praise. with the patriots, there wasn't a solid figure to latch onto. brady is more consistent; he didn't really put out any AMAZING star performances during one particular game that can be easily used for sports media propaganda. I don't even know what I'm trying to prove here... manning's an overrated pansy.

I'll agree with you there. The Pats have won the SBs with a team concept. Great Defence and Special Teams with an efficient, but not flashy offence. Bottom line is teams win championships. Indy has had trouble realizing that as they figured 3 players could, which has proved quite wrong.
