The Bruno Fernandes appreciation thread

Our best player in the past 6 years!

I can't even think of anyone else close to that! Sure, we haven't been great in the past 6 years, but this is not because of Bruno, let's first get a few players better than him and then we can criticize Bruno (players better than Bruno for longer than a single season).

Seeing that performance today on such a big stage. Now we see what he's capable of with other players performing well around him. He wasn't carrying anyone today. Would even go as far as to say a real captains performance. His post match interview was just as good.

Sensational today. Played like he does for the National Team. Played like it was 2020/2021. He’s a brilliant player. feck the haters.

Agree with all the above. That willingness to hold onto the ball a little longer to let play develop is something we’ve all wanted to see for a while.

Interesting to hear him say similar post match too.

Turned around our season when we signed him in that January and he's been our best player ever since. God knows where we would have been without him. Have no time for the people that think we will magically get better if he were to leave.

I’ve been very critical of him and I still think he’s not the answer longer term, but he was very good today, his best performance in a long time at a time when he was really required. Think Amorims comment about leaders will have stung him a bit so good management also

For me, he is our Bryan Robson. The only United player who can hold his head up high during this period of underachievment. These past few years would have been even more grim without him.

his diving and whining are annoying. for anything else, you’ve clearly never played at any kind of decent level if you can’t appreciate what he can do with a football. we haven’t had a system for the 6 years he’s been here. maybe give him a chance in one before deciding he can’t hack it in one. he’s sublime with the ball at his feet and having the confidence that a player will be where they should be will open up a whole new dimension to his game. and ours.

Roy Kean's latest rant after tearing into Bruno, was an embarassment. But what amazes me most is the amount of people on here who agree with him. Talent is not enough apparently? Respect please for a player, who without, we'd be relegated.

Wish they’d all feck off, Keane, Neville, Scholes all dining out on Fergusons team

Keane also said that he likes Bruno and thinks he's the best player at United. He's just frustrated and annoyed with the club and can't understand why we are so bad and thinks that aspect of Bruno is lacking, that he's somehow able to magically make everyone around him better by being good.

He is our best player. He is in fact by far our best player. To win the league you need to have several players in Bruno's skill and ability range. We have no one else. Diallo has shown potential and performances at that level but most of our squad is just doesn't have anything special about them.

There's a reason why every manager plays Bruno at every opportunity. There's a reason why Amorim said he wishes he could play Bruno as CM and #10 at the same time. At the moment he's our best player in both those positions and possibly our best left winger and even striker. He shouldn't even be thought about being the best wide player or striker but here we are.

Would have flourished in any Fergie era team. Imagine if Veron had been Bruno.

Spot on that bit.

He'd get in any great United squad and be a key player.

Alternatively, if you put any players from 94, 99 and 08 in this current squad, they'd struggle.

To the all Gullit 11 thread!

The trouble is Keano`s rant was too personal, he even had a spray about the United supporters chanting for Bruno. Why put that in there? People are showing they appreciate a man who has stood up to be counted amid one of the worst periods in Manchester United`s history on the pitch and off. Players like Bruno and the sadly now finished Juan Mata represent honesty and commitment to the club and supporters.

Good point about Bruno should have been there instead of Veron. So many were delighted when we signed Veron but some of us pointed out his style might be poorly suited to the English game and United`s style despite his great technical skills. The type to flourish in the Italian and Spanish leagues.

I'm not Player FC or any of that bollocks

I've criticised Bruno whenever he's had a bad game.

But let's be real/fair he's arguably been our best signing post Fergie.

Respects the Badge..ALWAYS works his socks off for the team and has consistently chipped in with goals and decisive moments (the first couple of years he was amazing). Respect.

When did he say that?

I agree. It certainly was too personal and questioning his workrate was more than odd given that is something he really stands out on compared to most of our players. I think he was right though with mentioning some of his "pressing" or "tackling". I mentioned that on here long time ago, that even though he looks very busy, often there isn't much to show for it because there doesn't seem to be real conviction in the attempts to win the ball. Mind, I am pretty sure that it is very hard to keep that conviction up during one game or even over multiple ones but I can see what Keane means.

Guess Keane is just incredibly frustrated of the team and the way they play. And he, like a few on here, don't feel it makes sense to celebrate one player while slagging of more or less everybody else. Nobody has to share that sentiment of course but I think it has its place.

He is I would say our best post-Fergie signing by miles. No others jump to mind. In a better team he would not feel this constant need to do everything, and would be even better. He has however not had a structure around him that allows us to get the best out of the team for defensive shape. Still, he's put up Man Utd numbers, and barely anyone else has. We've signed some great players... at less than great moments to sign them...

Not sure why Keane’s frustrated, seeing as he supposedly isn’t a United supporter.

The shit Bruno regularly gets on here is ludicrous. He’s the last player that you could suggest is downing tools, he always wants the ball, he’ll keep taking risks to change the game even if nothing’s coming off for him… he’s the closest thing to a proper United player in the squad these days, even if I wish his body language was less whiney.

He should leave. We're nowhere close to being a good team and he deserves being part of a title challenging side

If Bruno can get a move to a top European club or, frankly, even a club that could actually win a decent cup or two, wouldn't blame him from running away from Man Utd.

I'd love to win the Europa League, just to see the guy win a major trophy with us. He's wasted his best years at a club that is going down the toilet.

He'd be better off on the bench at PSG ala Ander Herrera, 20 appearances here and there and a guaranteed title winners medal, than staying and trying to be the next Bryan Robson.

TBF he's won the FA Cup which is bigger than the Europa League. Leaving for a random cup team wouldn't make sense, as that's what we are. We've probably won more trophies than any other non title challenging team out there in the major leagues since Sir Alex retired. He wouldn't go elsewhere in the Prem and given his age, he wouldn't go to Real Madrid. Could see Barca, PSG or Bayern at a stretch as they'd find a way to fit him in but wouldn't be a natural fit and they have players for those positions. The best fit for him would be Inter probably. Major club, settled, dark horse in the CL always, and dominates Serie A and he could prolong his career there.

Nice idea. Would be a bit of a homecoming for him as well. I'd definitely favor this advice. Who'd chip in for the plane with the message written in the back?

I would. The sooner we stop trying to filter everything through one, erratic player, we might stand a chance.

Him and Rashford out the door would be the only way to truly start a rebuild.

A bit suprised some of his fans don't voice some willingness to chip in. Given that he truly deserves to be happy away from United.

That being said, I think your position is a little more absolute as the situation allows. Bruno isn't some sort of burden, that stops United from flourishing. I don't know whether his performance against Liverpool this year was a blip or a blunder but we have seen a player that took care of the ball and made intelligent use of it. I'd be happy if we could manage to make this the default state as long as he plays in midfield at least. There isn't a realistic chance that United will be able to add as many players to the team in the summer as the team would require. And even adding those players doesn't automatically improve the team out of nothing. Making him the main point for criticism is just as unproductive as excluding him from criticism alltogether.
