The Bruno Fernandes appreciation thread.

He needs to stop scoring and assisting. It's dragging us back.

Separately, he's just 1 goal shy of Beckham and being in the top 20 United scorers of all time.

He had an excellent game, but posts like these are silly because you're acting as if these games are standard for him, but the reality is that he had 1 goal and 2 assists in the league before today. That is not good enough. Luckily for us, he is finding great form now.

Him and Amad in the two behind the striker is going to be a delight to watch.
I'm actually seriously looking forward to that. One that is excellent creatively and can create out of nothing, and one that is brilliant in tight areas who can dribble and also fairly creative, but is more patience in his play. I reckon Amorim will play these two. If we can get Gyokeres in the summer, I think we can be really, really dangerous offensively.

I don't think they are silly, because they're clearly tongue in cheek. What you've said would be more appropriately applied to the absolute meltdown that happens when he's in a bad run of form. He has carried the team at times and we've reached a point where some phenomenal assists, or what should be assists only for players to miss, aren't even noticed any more. He is absolutely taken for granted by many, and yes, he had a very poor start to the season, but it was truly bizarre to not allow him the leniency of being in what was a hopelessly dysfunctional team as ten hag's reign neared its end.

“Fernandes has been directly involved in 100 Premier League goals in 170 United appearances in the competition. That is only one more than Cristiano Ronaldo managed following his arrival at Old Trafford.” - BBC

But but he is an average player, not fit enough to tie the laces of the Odegaard or McAllister. Just shows how little some fans know thanks to the prejudice taught to them by the great Mark Goldbridge.

Bruno has been the single greatest player we have signed in the post Fergie Era who has consistently performed and why are only our players not allowed to have any slump in form, specially under Eric’s tactics. It’s not like KDB or Odegaard or any other AM have performed in every single match of their careers. I am sure even the greatest of players (other than Ronaldo and Messi) have gone through multiple stretches of bad form.

But yeah it’s hipster to hate Bruno, so carry on while he keeps on breaking all the good records.

So the United website has a big interview with him, and they've stuck it behind an MUTV paywall, the cnuts.

Beckham took pens and played AM? He scores more than Stam, Keane, Pallister too

Why all the negativity towards a player who has given his all for the club and is far and away our best player? RESPECT.
1000 percent agreed. I love Bruno, he’s super inventive, skilled, talented. He is also hearty, emotional and utterly dedicated to the team. Inspirational. The detractors are always going to embarrass themselves

It's good he seems to have got his shooting boots back recently, that's the one part of his game I feel that seriously declined from his peak days. Always been an impatient type of passer but has been creating as many chances as ever, but last few seasons he was missing more chances than he was scoring.

The Ipswich game which I've just seen is an example of the importance of Bruno to our team and also shows how he stands head and shoulders above anyone else in the squad qualitywise. He's carried us since he came to the club and continues doing so.
C'mon you Bruno haters let's hear it!

I've just put in the post match thread I don't think he is going to get as high assist and goals in this system, but reckon he is going to be very important, interchanging between several positions as games go on.

Did you watch the game?

Read the 1st line of my post. Of course I've watched the game. So you're not pleased with his performance? Shoot! Just interested to hear.
I thought it was average, only looked good because most of the rest of our team was a lot worse.

Bruno had a higher pass completion rate than usual at 92 %. So he was less wasteful than he usually he is. 92 % is extremely good, but that was not the issue.

The problem is that he constantly played long balls at Garnacho and Rashford. And even though he did hit them, it doesn't help us when they are just receiving the ball too high and isolated up the pitch. It's just inviting the opponents to regain possession from our isolated and quite frankly, poor forwards. So even when his passes hit, they are putting teammates in awfully isolated and risky positions.

Off the ball he is just constantly running around like a headless chicken after the ball, leaving our midfield just as isolated as our forwards. He doesn't fall into position to support our midfield. So it's easy to criticize our midfield, but whenever Bruno plays, we are essentially always a man short in midfield.

So all in all, it was not his worst performance. But certainly not a good one. He is so structurally problematic, not to mention his constant poor choices of the passes he attempts, regardless of if he hits his target or not.

The post of a man who looks up stats to use them to shit on a player he dislikes only to find out the stats completely contradict his biased opinion on the performance. At which point he doubles down, coming up with much more tenuous criticisms, that stats can neither confirm nor deny. I particularly enjoyed the criticism that playing an attacking player in through the defensive line is “putting them in awfully isolated and risky positions”. That’s a classic. Well played, sir.
