The Biden Presidency

I showed my parents around DC a few times back in the day; my mother said a lot of the monuments & sights were about war.
It’s the American way, I told her.

DC has a lot of non war related monuments and sights. The museums are incredible and you can spend several days on just one of them. It's an underrated city to be honest. Doesn't have the appeal of NYC or LA but it has its own vibe.

Agree. The museums (which most are free) are amazing. I have been to the Air & Space and Natural History ones at least 10 times each and still see something new each time I go. For the monuments, I wish we had more related to scientific achievement and things like that but that's generally not how monuments around America are built.

That genuinely got me for a second, brilliant editing!

I'm sorry, could you repeat that? I couldn't hear you over my universal healthcare, consumer protection laws, labour laws and well-functioning democratic system. They're such a nuisance, you have no idea.

Now you just need to take care of that nasty commercial whaling you're all so fond of. :p

I am sorry, I couldn't hear you from all that noise of missiles launching ,guns firing, bombs exploding , aircraft carriers aircraft carrying , bald eagles wings flapping....capitol storming, or otherwise known as the sounds of FREEDOM!

Selling whale meat to Japan goes beyond sustainability.

We, little irrelevant Norway, revolutionized whaling when it first became an industry hundreds of years ago. It's part of our tradition, just like it's Canadian to decimate their fauna due to fur trading. It's hard to stop now.

Rookies, if you want to see how it's done just look at what we did to the plains buffalo. Trains + Gatling Guns = 'Merica

Hey when your country is as irrelevant as Norway you don't attract Trumpians who want to abuse it!

I know, I lived 10 mins (at 4am ;)) from the mall for 17 years. That was my mother's take on it after a tour of the mall and Arlington cemetery.

Not to bring down the mood, but we do actually have our own Trumpets on the rise. And the bizarre thing is, they're not even Norwegian variants of Trumpets, they're just straight out Trumpets. They're exactly like the American kind. Only a few weeks ago the leader of the Oslo (i. e. the capital!) branch of the right-wing FrP (who were in government until recently) was outright expelled from the party, and the local party in Oslo was put under central administration. He was pretty much talking about all the things we've been laughing at on the Caf, including all the "stolen election" stuff and Antifa false flags. He's probably a Qanon believer as well.

I guess the one positive to take from this is that even FrP has some limits. There are parties to the right of them who keep vacuuming up expelled FrP members, but they are utterly irrelevant. Incidentally, this is a thing that could basically never happen in US politics now, as far as I understand. Here the central party leadership ultimately has the power to decide who is in and who is out.

While you've got me talking, and I do love talking, after the Capitol siege the political debate show on the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation had on the leader of the Socialist Left Party to debate a prominent FrP politician. He had been one of the few to outright support Trump, nominaing him for the Nobel Peace Prize, for example. This guy had turned around after the storming, and was confronted by the fact that he had gone from thinking Trump was great in 2018 to thinking he's mentally ill by 2021. He was basically doing what many GOP politicians are doing now, just from a greater distance.

One of his claims in that debate was that it was "impossible" in 2018 to tell what kind of person Trump would be and what he would do in 2021. Suffice it to say that didn't come off as very believable.

My wife is watching the Biden presser on TV right now.
The Feds are getting involved with the vaccine rollout and calling on FEMA, the National guard, etc.
This administration has, what sounds like, a plan.
Who'd have thunk it?

Why would you need federal government involvement in the largest emergency vaccine rollout in history? Surely it’ll just sort itself out.

Only 400,000 deaths too late.

That's basically us, but with invading places instead of whaling.

But we've done the whaling thing too. #CallMeIshmael

The impossible -- they're all saying that now.

Anyway, hard for me to think of a country that is 100% immune from the rise of far right but one hopes this shift in U.S nips it at the bud at many other countries. Also, I hope this capitol riot has knocked some sense into apologists and all.

Fun fact tied to two of the topics above: as the whaling industry collapsed, many of those people in New England moved into the (fossil) oil industry which started in Pennsylvania. To this day, many terms used in oil drilling are straight from whaling. [apologies for derailment]

Which makes me wonder... is the ubiquity accidental due to the internet/social media allowing for much wider distribution of information or is it a purposeful use of the internet/social media to widely distribute the disinformation by a 3rd party.

It's okay. Sea Shanties just got their own Spotify playlist, so it's fitting.

Well I'm on a website full of people not from Norway, dedicated to an English football club, talking about American politics. I mainly watch non-Norwegian entertainment, and frequently watch non-Norwegian news, and follow non-Norwegians on social media who tell me about their non-Norwegian lives. Channels of information are definitely way more open and international than they used to be.

trump cannot be replaced as the funniest ever person in power, but biden is one of the few that can rise to the challenge. c'mon jack dont let me down, i need the entertainment.

My favourite tweet exchange today that I can’t find now which was replying to a tweet about Biden with a picture of Biden:

Tweeter 1: THAT IS NOT MY PRESIDENT
Tweeter 2: Oh great another MAGAT. I suppose Trump is still your President?!
Tweeter 1: No I live in India.

(scum)

!!
Another former member of FrP.

He was way before Trump, though. He's actually a good piece of evidence that Trump is a symptom, not the cause.

Listened through this the other day from Malcolm Nance, whole talk is extremely interesting but he's a lot to say about breivik from 25mins, his connection to the alt-right & Trumpism, etc. (includes graphic img of bombing victim, not the kids although he's referring to them).

You see Texas from that high horse of yours?

feck that brings me back. Glad they didn't show the images of the Utøya attack that he was clearly showing there. I saw only a few when it happened, but it'll always be with me. But even him talking about it makes me feel sick.

fecking alt-right neo fascist cnuts.

Edit: I'm so upset I can barely even find it in me to be annoyed by Nance's reference to the Labour Party as liberals.

i cant see very far, but i can see something funny that is staring me in the face, and i look forward to more of it.

If you think this is bad after trump, you must have conveniently erased the embarrassment that was 8 years of Dubya, Clinton shagging anything on heels, the tax policies of Bush Sr, a clearly demented Reagan in his final years, Nixon pulling a Saul Goodman prior to that and I could keep going.

He chose to perform a terrorist attack on a Mosque the day before the busiest day of the year, and was stopped, disarmed and beaten up by an old man. He did kill his step-sister though, to protect his parents in the coming race war. fecking scum as well. The right has a lot to answer for. People like Tybring-Gjedde and Amundsen are responsible.
