The Best Video Game You've Ever Played?

fighting soccer. Classic

oh and mousetrap. Cool game

Hitman 1,2,3... I'd spend 2-3.30 hrs. for a mission ´cause I wanted to be 100% sure about what I was doing.. I haven't seen the movie yet and I'm not sure if should watch it at all..

EDIT:
FUUK I meant from "Silent Assassin" to "Bloodmoney".. I only found "Codename 47" after SA and beside the storyline there wasn't much joy for me..

No the movie is shit, and the guy they got to play agent 47 is rediculous.

Dont ruin the franchise for yourself, avoid the movie and keep playing the games. Oh and by Hitman 3 do you mean Contracts or Blood Money?

Best game ever by a mile.

I've just downloaded a 64 rom to have another go on this, brilliant game.

The most time spent on a game has to be Street fighter 2, so I'll go with that for my favourite. MGS1 was immense as well.

You have any other recomendations then? I'm desperate for Mass Effect 2 already.

Yeh I know what you mean! You played the new(ish) downloadable content on Mass Effect?

If you havent already give KOTOR II and Jade Empire a shot, theyre not new but they still have that BioWare touch in them (well KOTOR II doesnt but you know what I mean)

Besides that the only thing remotely similar and recent is Fallout 3 in terms of cinematics and player-moral choices with consequences.

I've played alot of good ones, but now World Of Warcraft is just ridiculously a cut above most others. Since 2004 its never missed a beat.

Quake II

Online this game was fecking spectacular, especially if you played the Lithium Mod. I don't think I'll ever have as much fun as I did at lan parties until 6 in the morning.

StarCraft.

I must've played 1000's of games on Bnet back in the day. I wonder if people still actively play this?

KOTOR II was a bit rubbish. No where near as good as the first. I wish they would stop making mmorpgs and make kotor 3 instead of kotor online.

I think its abit harsh to degrade KOTOR II as "rubbish". While it might not have been anywhere near as good as it's predecessor, it still was a pretty good game and I think Obsidian did a relatively good job with the sequel considering the boots they had to fill.

I actually dont mind the idea of a KOTOR MMO - I fancy a striving MMO that isnt World of fecking Warcraft, but Im unhappy that its at the expense of KOTOR III :nono:

Anyway it seems like BioWare have adopted Mass Effect as the unofficial continuation of the KOTOR singleplayer experience for this generation.

KOTOR 2 wasn't rubbish. But the ending fecking was. It wasn't Obsidians fault, they were made to rush it out. A KOTOR MMO doesn't appeal to me, I loved the games for the story, and to see it set hundreds of years in the future is a letdown to me.

For me, it would have to be Final Fantasy VII. It was the first RPG I had ever played, and what a way to introduce me to the world of Role Playing Games.

The characters were phenomenal and deep, each had their own story and you could quite easily connect with each one. Cloud and Soldier, Aeris and the Ancients, Cid with his 'Space' dream, Barret and Avalanche, and of course Spehiroth and his quest for power. The character development in that game was absolutely outstanding.

The Battle System was also the best out of all the FF's I have had the pleasure of playing. The Materia system, whilst difficult to grasp at first, was genius. Some of the combinations you could put together were brilliant, and finding the perfect combinations was great fun.

The soundtrack, as I'm sure anyone who has played it would agree, was absolutely brilliant. I used to delibirately make Boss Battles drawn out so I could listen to the music that accompanied it (I'm sure some of you did the same!), and when it came to the games more 'sad' moments, such as Aeris' death, the music that accompanied that was also brilliant.

FMV's were out of this world too. The Sapphire Weapon one at Junon was probably my favourite, though there are so many to choose from.

The story itself was what captivated me though. Despite being only 7 at my first time playing through, it was an incredible story. Despite being very, very deep and difficult to understand (I'm still not quite sure I understand the full story now, despite having completed it 6 times), it was one which instantly caught your imagination.

Of course the game didn't come without it's flaws. The translation was horrible at times, and the ending wasn't as good as it could have been. But aside from that, in my opinion the game was pretty much perfect. Everything from the Weapons (Emerald, Ruby, Diamond, Ultima - all amazing fights), the equipment, materia, the story, the twists was all phenomenally done, and for that FFVII is the greatest video game I have ever played.
It's definitely up there. The later FF games are superior in some ways, but there was something incredible about VII. I think it's the only one I've completely finished, all the others I poured massive amounts of time into but just started getting bored towards the end. Whereas VII got me hooked and wasn't even tempted to ever go onto other games until I finished it. If there was ever a game which defined the word 'EPIC', it was FF VII.

It's only competitor for me was a little-known Megadrive game called Shining Force II. Another RPG, it had an awesome storyline for it's time, and you could end up with over 40 characters in your group (although only 11 could actually take part in battles at once). If it weren't for my megadrive rarely working these days, I'd still play it today. Pretty damn good for a game 14 years old. I'd hate to know how many hours I lost playing this game while growing up.

GTA: San Andreas would probably round out the top three (I've never played IV so can't comment on that).

I must play Chrono Trigger.....

Is it really better than FF7? I didn't actually think this was possible.

I haven't played it but theres a remake of Chrono Trigger coming out for the DS pretty soon, I'll be getting that.

Orarina of Time
Legacy of Kain series, all of them apart from the first Blood Omen
Metal Gear Solid Series
Medievil
Devil May Cry series
Ninja Gaiden was pretty good too

Well scenario wise FF 7 edges it, along with the graphics.

But overall Chrono Trigger is ahead, especially in terms of gameplay, it's still an absolute must.

Anyone who says WoW should be drug out into the street and be shot.

WoW is everything that is wrong with video games these days. It encapsulates the "dumb it down so retarded people can win" strategy that permeates the gaming landscape so complete these days it makes you retch.

I don't play, nor like the game. But 11 million people are willing to pay per month to play it.

They must be doing something right.

Lots of people play wow. It caters to the lowest common denominator. The game is not hard. Has no depth. Allows anyone with time on their hands to succeed.

Well said it's like crack for the masses, not the upper class

So by that theory it is the best game that demographic has played, then?
