But you are suggesting that Shastri will have to face the music alone. If he has Sachin alongside him... They could really stretch that third innings. May not get a win...but can certainly draw the game if needed.Shastri averages 13 in England in 3rd Innings. Azhar 30+ in 4th innings.
And you are judging Shastri's in this match by his ability to bat long periods in the sub-continent. Also, Shastri is coming in at no. 6 in this match. He only has Moin Khan and Gillespie who can give him some semblance of support. Whereas Azhar has McCullum, Vaas and Marshall + Snow who can also bat a bit.
It's my opinion..but I think all great teams need one such player. Someone who refuses to do the conventional...someone whose sole obsession would be to keep the wicket..frustrate the bowlers so much. It's not been spoken about so much on these thread since everyone is either hypimg the numbers or hyping the players, but pschye is just as key a component in cricket test matches as anything else.Shastri used to bat forever, I think I read that even his own fans used to boo him for batting too slowly.
Add to that, both Moin and McCullum average 28 in England (Moin scoring at a much slower rate). Also Gillespie coming in at 8 has a test double century to his name.
Who knew Vaas would be worse than a sheepCongrats @harshad, was tighter than what I had imagined.
That would have never happened. He would have kept getting blockedI liked your team although I wish MJJ had been able to stick to the Pakistani theme he started out with. Would have been great to see that come to fruition.
Yeah. He probably would have at least had Hanif Mohammad and Fazal Mahmood in his team.Congrats harshad, close game. I think closest so far in terms of final vote tally.
Commiserations Samid. I liked your team although I wish MJJ had been able to stick to the Pakistani theme he started out with. Would have been great to see that come to fruition.
Hanif went pretty late in the draft. I am sure MJJ would have gone for him earlier. That would have never happened. He would have kept getting blocked
Saqlain, Qadir, Hanif, Miandad all would have been lost forever.
Who knew Vaas would be worse than a sheep
Vaas was the 3rd Round pick in Criteria 3 (Sachin criteria). At that time I didn't even look at his record properly, just saw the 355 wickets and went with it to avoid the sheep.I had him shortlisted along with Zaheer Khan and Sydney Barnes while I was filtering one of the criteria. That was until I saw his records in Australia, England and SA. Just woeful.
Hmm..maybe. But if he stuck to that theme, his final composition may have been worse than what Samid finally put up. Pakistan team has too many good players to be ignored in the draft.Hanif went pretty late in the draft. I am sure MJJ would have gone for him earlier.
He should have been allowed to win all ties if he promised to stick to only Pakistanis.Hmm..maybe. But if he stuck to that theme, his final composition may have been worse than what Samid finally put up. Pakistan team has too many good players to be ignored in the draft.
