Tennis Thread 2014

He has loads in the tank. He just can't return against servebots, which is no problem for Djoko or Murray.

If Kyrgios keeps up his serves and adds a little more baseline and volley game, he could be damn near unplayable on fast surfaces. Wow.

3 match points now.

And he takes it, of course, with an ace. What a game!

This is Federer's now. There is no way he is losing to either Djokovic or Murray in a Wimbledon final.

Didn't federer just lose to wawrinka in a final? I know this is grass but that will be very tough match for him.

As for nadal, great player, but you wonder how he'd do if the courts weren't so slow as they are these days. Anytime there's a bit of zip and a player in form, he tends to struggle.

I'm not even sure he'll get to the final. Even if he does though, he wouldn't be a favorite against either. Murray beat him at the Olympics final, didn't he?

Also, lovely interview with the Aussie whose name I can't spell. Seems very mature, for his age. Has a lot about him.

I like seeing the new guns playing more offensively again. I was beginning to fear an onslaught of defensive specialists since Murray, Djokovic and Nadal have taken over the top spots.

Federer's best hope is that Murray and Djokovic have a long grueling 5 setter. That's the only way I see him beating them.

I think Murray could do it again. It will be tough but he looks so comfortable out there now.

Federers best bet is Djokovic....since he matches up best against him. However long Murray-Djokovic is mostly irrelevant. Hell at this point, Federer would probably prefer to play Djoko than Wawrinka.....that should be a top quarter unless Fed blows out and loses in 3 like he has been doing recently.

What the shit? I left this at 1-1 and Nadal was comfortable.

He never was comfortable. He broke serve once and won the 2nd 7:5. Unlike most young players, Kyrgios never backed down.

Kyrigos deserves a lot of credit no doubt. He went almost 2 sets before losing a point on first serve.

It feels like he just doesn't have enough in the tank anymore after Rolang Garros these past few years.

He's not been good on grass since his knee troubles in 2012.

I also think he's tried to make adjustments to his game to improve against Djokovic on hard courts and maybe his grass form has suffered as a result.

The Everest in the past for Nadal was beating Federer at Wimbledon. Slowly it's become matching Djokovic on the hard courts.

For sure he can if he gets by Djokovic. Pressure is off him these days and he looks supreme out there so far, admittedly not against great opposition. Dimitrov brings a new challenge though, exquisite technique and shot making to go with a big serve but I expect Murray's greater big match experience to pay off, probably in 4 sets. I don't quite think he's ready to beat an elite player but I am convinced he is the nearest to challenging the big boys in next few years.

His lack of a big serve and returning ability gets shown up on grass. So many guys can pick up cheap points on serve but Nadal just doesn't have the serve power. Kyrgios would have half the number of aces playing Murray or Djokovic today. I don't think it's anything to do with his knees anymore, he's proved he's a machine just this year already, he just doesn't practice enough on grass and the shorter points do not suit his game. His lack of serve and his return game is the biggest problem in my eyes.

Nadal will improve when the grass season extends next season.

You people find this attractive?

Bad photo, but yes.

Sadly, I think Murray will win today if he keeps playing like that. His serve and returns have been fantastic in the tournament and that's really your best shot of beating Dimitrov. You can't give him easy returns in the center because that's what he likes and does well - winners from the second shot. Also, he struggles to return powerful first serves and Murray has like 75% success rate. Another thing is that Murray's never had such a good backhand as in the last few games. I'd give him the edge but it won't be in straight sets, I'm sure. Unless he produces one of his specialty baseline defensive borefests, in which case he'll get spanked. He knows how to play at Wimbledon though, so I doubt it.
I hope I'm wrong and Dimitrov destroys him.
