Tennis Thread 2014

I believe Rafa also becomes the first man to win atleast one grand slam in a year for 10 years in a row. What a player.

At the rate he is going here, he should get 17 just by winning the French. If he won 17 it would be pretty much cement him as the best ever.

For about ten years. That's roughly how long it took to find out about Armstrong. That said, the Spanish courts have already destroyed all of Fuentes's blood bags.

Why do you even watch it then?

Someone thread ban this wanker.

Decent match, weird way to end but Djok looked really broken around the end.

Incredible record for Rafa, equalling Pistol Pete's record is also a tremendous achievement.

Nadal already has Federer fanboys uncomfortable because he keeps shitting on him when they play eachother... now if he also kicks away their last flimsy straw and beats Federer's Grand Slam record...

wow, just imagine if he wasn't hampered by injuries, he would have been out of sight already. What a player Nadal is.

A shame about his back injury in that Australian Open final this year, would have Federer squirming even more now.

Winning nine out of the last 10 French Opens is unbelievable. Thought Rafa was fecked when Djok broke back.

It's amazing to think that only fecking Soderling has beaten him in Paris. Not Federer or Djokovic or Murray. Fecking Soderling.

Don't think he needs 17 to be the GOAT. Just one more Australian Open would have done it.

Feel bad for Novak but I think its inevitable that he'll win the French at some point in his career.

I'm sorry? I watch it because I like tennis, and I like Murray [I wrote "Novak" here by accident originally]. I'm sorry my dislike and distrust of Nadal has offended you so much. Perhaps you should be less sensitive?

Right. So Novak with his ridiculous energy levels doesn't dope. But Rafa with his ridiculous energy levels does.

Has they're ever been anyone so dominant like Rafa at the French? It's an absolutely astonishing record and he could end up with 3/4 more.

I actually meant to write "Murray" there, not Novak. Too focused on the final, I suppose!

I never said Djokovic doesn't dope. In fact, rumours about him doping have been swirling for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised to hear him done for in a few years, too. Stop being such a squealing fanboy.

Still, it's a bit pathetic to accuse one of the greatest ever of doping himself just because he beat a player you're a fanboy of. But hey, don't let that stop you being a bitter, jealous man.

Its scary that he's been one match off from having won it 10 times on the trot. He's capable of winning at least one or two more before he's done.

 Bitter.

Fuentes is behind bars and Nadal's still beating Djokovic.

Are you seriously accusing Nadal of doping ?

I'm not the first, nor will I be the last. I'm very suspicious of Spain's sudden rise to dominance in pretty much every sport over the last ten years, particularly when it coincides with the Fuentes doping scandal.

Particularly, particularly when he's quoted as saying things like this:

There has been selective leaking, only names of cyclists have come out. This is what makes me angry. [My treatments have helped] with recovery to footballers, tennis players and athletes.

If I would talk, the Spanish football team would be stripped of the 2010 World Cup.

Spanish friends of mine are also pretty convinced that their sportsmen are doping, but they don't really care. They're just relishing winning. I don't mean to sum up a whole nation, as I can only speak for those that I know, but they don't have the same objection to cheating as other nations do. It seems to be more of an attitude of "if you can do it, then do, because any advantage is a good advantage".

I'm sure most people disagree with me, but something stinks in Spanish sports.

At this point it's hard to argue that Nadal's not the best of all time, given that he's the only one of the three of them to have consistently beaten his rivals at their peak. I still reckon that if all three were the same age it'd be Nadal and Feeder out in front but as things stand Nadal looks pretty likely to beat the slam record which would close the debate beyond doubt.

I'm actually not a fanboy of Djokovic. If I could be arsed, I'd dig up some of my posts in the old tennis threads on here. I used to drive Vuc mental because I didn't actually like Novak (now there was a Djokovic fanboy).

Also, forgive me if I don't take a Spanish Real Madrid supporter calling other people a fanboy seriously.

I'm not particuarly bitter, or jealous. Why would I be jealous? He's not beating me in the finals.

If Nadal and Djoko are doping, then pretty sure Murray's doping too considering the improvement in his game in the last two years or so.

FWIW, I don't think any of them are doping and without any concrete proof it's ridiculous to point fingers at them.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've read on my 15 years here. You have zero evidence other than being bitter that your boy didn't win today, and have somehow parlayed that to condemn an entire country for doping. You need to cough up some tangible evidence before even thinking about coming out with something so mind-bendingly ridiculous.

I'd actually suggest you to delete his posts.

Long shot but these sort of open accusations can come under defamation.

Maybe I am showing my ignorance but, in Nadal. Federer and Djokovic we could be watching the three best players ever.

Alright, fair enough. My suspicions are my own, I'll not voice them in this thread anymore. Clearly, it's clogging it up and dragging it off-topic.

I'm sure people said the same thing about Armstrong when he was whispered to be doping, too. And I'm pretty sure you were one of them.

Was I ? Can you point me to the post I made on Armstrong ?

If Fuentes had anything concrete against the Spanish football team or Nadal he'd have spilled the beans.

He has nothing to lose considering he's already in jail. He'd probably have liked to take as many down with him as he could.

So just because there was a spanish doctor that doped athletes it means we can't have had any natural success in any sport? Are we doping our kids too then? Because the U17 and U19 national football teams have had success too in recent years. Or is it just that maybe, just maybe, we're doing something good at these youth levels?

clear case of post doping going on here.

Why cant people like all three of them? I do. They are such amazing competitors. But people want to consistently one-up. That's is the only reason I can imagine why people like one and hate the others.
