This set still being on serve despite all of Medvedev's errors is quite incredible.
They just never learn.Commentator saying, this is big, Novak is getting tired now!
Weirdly I don't think this is her first ever Djokovic match.
Even for a rattled Djokovic it's easy enough to hold because Medvedev just refuses to move his return stance. It's too easy to serve and volley.Set has got interesting, let's see if Novak can serve to stay in the set. Feel that Medvedev needs to strike now as Novak looks a bit rattled right now.
There's no if about it. Novak doesn't lose tie breakers in Slams. If Med loses this set on a TB I'm going to bed.
What a killer that will beThere's no if about it. Novak doesn't lose tie breakers in Slams.
He doesn't have the weapons for it. He's just so happy playing his game, returning everything, hoping Novak makes an error. Medvedev had Novak where he wanted. Tired, struggling, missing first serves. And yet he refuses to change up his return stance and show any attacking initiative at all. And his passing shots and anticipation of the serve and volley have been astonishingly bad. Even that opportunity he had to go down the line for the open court on set point. He's going to regret not taking more chances. You have to put him away. That's the match done, you'd think.
The result was never in doubt but just the quality of it has been poor.Such a disappointing final. Well played novak
It wasn't just about efficiency on break point. Novak's game is far superior to Carlos' and he had his strategy on point. Carlos had the right idea with rushing to the net but he did it so frequently that it allowed Medvedev to get a read on it by the end of the first set. Novak came up to the net 40 times, won 35 of those and won 19 of 21 serve and volley points but he did it when required and not all the time. Medvedev, unfortunately, doesn't have the weapons to hurt Novak.Unlike Alcaraz, Novax actually converted his breakpoints. That was the major difference. Ant today Medvedev was very erratic while serving.
As he should because Novak was not that great himself today and Carlos really had a huge opportunity.Carlos will be absolutely raging watching that, I'd imagine.
I know that second set will go down as a "great set" in some quarters but I found it quite error strewn honestly. Novak went from something like 0 or 1 errors at 3-3 to ending the set with close to 20. He was really bad for the second half of that set but Medvedev, well.Well done Novak on no.24! Not the best final but at least good end to that 2nd set.
He'll definitely pick some up once Novak is gone. Right now, I don't think he's close to his peak, which he would need to be at, to beat Carlos and Novak both in a tournament. Or he just needs to have them face each other or someone take them out.Really enjoyed that runner-up speech. Medvedev is a great character. Pretty sure he has atleast 1 more GS trophy in him.

why not? its not every day you win 24 grand slamsFair enough Djokovic is wearing the 24 jacket, however is it really necessary for pretty much his whole box to have them too
