Shapo a break up in the third as well. Looks like this will be as tough a match for Rafa as Rome last year.

It appears as though Zverev will be crashing out tonight. He must have been 2nd favourite before the start of the tournament. Who would have thought that Rafa would make it to the quarters, and that Zverev wouldn't reach him?

Only Medvedev on hard courts is somewhat reminiscent of the big 3 in terms of consistency as far as the mini big-3 of this generation is concerned.

It is not surprising if Zverev or Tsitsipas crash out in a R16 or QFs

Quite an incredible path Nadal can get to the final, especially if Berrettini doesn't get past Busta or Monfils/Kecmanovic. Shapovalov will likely be the biggest test. We might not even have an idea of his actual level before a Medvedev final.

I bet Djokovic is kicking himself hard now for the stupidity he inflicted on himself. Nadal with a clear path to the final now.

Guy puts other lives in danger by not covering up after a covid injection won't be doing any such kicking. Probably raving about the injustice in the world, the smug twat

If Nadal wins this and then wins Roland-Garros, it will be set up for a crazy Wimbledon. Especially if Federer intends to compete there. Neither Federer or Djokovic will want to go two behind Rafa.

It won't happen but if Rafa doesn't win the title I'd absolutely love Monfils to win it

Yeah, agreed, always been an entertaining player. Would be cool for him to get a Slam, or even just a final, in the twilight of his career.

Never been a fan of Nadal but it would be absolutely incredible if he wins it. To complete the double career slam at 35 at the tournament that has been his kryptonite for over a decade now would be brilliant. Definitely rooting for him.

Nadal will need to go up a gear or two to beat Medvedev I think. However, he is certainly capable.

Disappointed in PCB. Though he could have targeted Berrettini's backhand more and get him running to that side.

Berrettini is good, but feels on the whole completely uninspiring to watch.

Berrettini is another top 10 player looking for a clear top 5 breakthrough… Monfils in the QF of a Slam is a playable draw and he seems ok at physical level… then here it goes, if he really has what it takes (jury still out).

I think he does have top 5 potential. He's maybe a little one dimensional and still weak on the backhand but he's been consistent for a while and unlike some of his other age mates he has performed on all surfaces too which is a real positive. He's made four straight slam QFs in a row now where he has lost Djokovic in relatively competitive mtches in the previous 3.

Tsitsipas beats Fritz after a tight 5 setter 4-6 6-4 4-6 5-4

Kanepi beats Sabalenka after a final set tiebreak 5-7 6-2 7-6 (10-7)

Rafa's going to lose it in the most devastating way possible isn't he?

Just standard Rafa this. Just has to go AWOL when in a commanding position. Don't think he faced a BP for two sets and then.

Tennis is going to lose so much when Federer and Nadal are gone.

Nadal's stats look quite insane.

41 Winners to 28 Unforced Errors.

51 to 53 for Shapo.

Almost matched a big hitter without the errors.

If this is just heat exhaustion, yes.

If it's an abdominal injury, no.
Sounded like it's more likely to be heat related given his interviews. Believe it was also 35 degrees in Mebourne at times today.

He said he was 'devastated' physically after the 4th set and his stomach felt funny so the doctor gave him a tablet.

He really should have won this in straight sets but impressive to win it in the end.

He's played 4 of his 5 matches in the day now so the heat would probably get to him at some point. That being said, he's got two night matches now.

Actually the SF will likely be another day match. They've got both SFs on Friday and given his half of the draw played first, I imagine they'll put his SF on in the day session with the other SF the night session.
